Awesome breakfast - try a cinnamon roll! 1/16/2008

5 stars for the cinnamon rolls, they are awesome. I go here probably 3 times a month for breakfast on Sunday and have always had amazing cinnamon rolls. I could eat a bowl of the icing they put on them by itself. The rest of breakfast is really good, though I tend to stick with the Swedish pancakes. There are really good deals on lunch and dinner too. more

The owner makes the experience 12/16/2007

I'd been to Ann Sathers in Lakeview several times over the last few months and really thought that I'd found my regular, favorite breakfast restaurant. The food is good, the service is quick and the wait staff is generally friendly. The new location is lovely, although the tables are crowded together, and my friend and I visited it last Sunday. We were seated right next to the kitchen, amidst all the bustle. Our server, who was great as usual, brought our meals; but my hollandaise sauce, served in a plastic cup, was ice cold as if it was just pulled from the fridge. When I asked to have it heated, the server took it back and the response from the kitchen was "Tell this customer to go to another restaurant" (but I did receive the sauce, piping hot and served in a large bowl). Apparently, it was the owner who was upset that I had the nerve to request that my food actually be warm. So, really, whom could I possibly complain to if the owner doesn't even care about the quality of his guests' experience? I am not interested in giving my money to an owner who explicitly insults his guests, even if he thinks they can?t hear him. Pros: Good wait and bus staff Cons: Rude owner more

I wish I could recommend this place. 11/21/2007

The cinnamon buns were delicious and the bacon was perfect. The waiter was even really attentive... but NEVER give these guys your credit card! The shenanigans began when they gave me the bill. I gave them my credit card and waited for a good ten minutes for the waiter to return. He comes back handing me the wrong bill and the wrong card. I correct his mistake and he goes back. Another ten minutes later, he comes back with THE SAME WRONG CARD in his hand. I point this out again. He leaves again. At this point my friend and I are thinking "Man, this guy must be having a rough day." We waited a few more minutes until he returned again. This time he had the right card in his hand, but the wrong bill. I was astonished at the circus act this had become. He left again to correct his mistake and came back with the right card and the right bill. I payed it and left. (And only a half hour after finishing my meal. Nice.) So later that day I check my bank balance and it reads that I have $60 less than what I started with. Yup, they triple charged me. Days later, after calls back and forth to the restaurant and my bank, the money is still missing from my bank account. All in all, the place has good food but they are monkeys when it comes to handling a credit card. Pros: good food, cinnamon buns Cons: Management, using credit cards, long waits more

are you desperate for a hyped-to-be-homely disappointment? 8/7/2007

yeah yeah cinnamon rolls. if that's all you want for breakfast then go ahead. but if you are eating out for something more consider this when choosing: ITS NOT HOLLANDAISE! if you are ordering one of their eggs benedict variations that come with "hollandaise sauce" don't be expecting a thick delicious sauce with a bit of flavor. hollandaise is an emulsion (heated and mixed slowly) of butter, egg yoke, and lemon or vinegar and seasoned. it is delicate and somewhat difficult which is why many restaurants only have it on some days. ann sathers "hollandaise" is raw egg yoke with melted butter added. that's it. and that is not a hollandaise. it's flavorless and cheating the customer. so plan on ordering an overcooked omelet instead. Pros: sugar with cinnamon rolls Cons: anything with eggs more

Try it for Dinner 10/26/2006

This place is great for dinner! For one price, you get an assortment of breads (including the famous Ann Sather cinnamon rolls), an appetizer (the fruit soup is yummy!), an entree (the filet mignon, Swedish meatballs, and sweet potato gnocchi are all killer), two sides, and a dessert (pies, ice cream sundaes, brownies a la mode)! The servers are all super friendly and the atmosphere is great -- and terrific for people watching because such a wide variety of people are there! So, have breakfast at Orange or something, and visit Ann Sather for a more savory meal later in the day. more

Eat Here 8/15/2006

There are plently of places that one can purchase a warm and wonderful smelling cinnamon roll - however Ann Sather's offers one that also tastes well beyond expectation. I ordered their breakfast sampler which was a good way to sample their food at one sitting. Everything was cooked well and tasted great with the exception of the swedish potato and pork sausage - which was a bit bland for the American breakfast sausage pallete. The wait staff was very freindly and well knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this establishment to any anyone. more

Has something for everyone 6/20/2006

Been years since i have been there and the memory is still strong. Many friends in Chicago call me from here on a daily basis. The breakfast is to die for, and the menu is filled with enough tongue-pleasures that it is sure to accomidate anyones taste buds. You may have to wait a while between making an order and tasting it, but often times, it is well worth the wait. Pros: Menu Variety, price Cons: Parking, crowded more

A Lakeview Staple! 4/24/2006

Ann Sathers is a must in Lakeview. Swedish pancakes and eggs benedict to die for. Senior and kid friendly it's a great place to take visitors and good friends for breakfast and lunch. They're full sat and sun am but on their game and service is quick. Parking behind the restaurant helps too! Grab an extra cinnamon roll on your way out. Pros: Comfort, Value, Parking Cons: a little loud more

Give it a try 7/30/2005

Though there are several negative reviews, the things people have complained about were not a part of my experience. I was there on a Sunday and it was absolutely packed, but my party was seated immediately. My server was incredibly friendly and attentive (I could not finish a cup of coffee without it being refilled) and my breakfast (I had a wrap) was hot, fresh and delicious. Also, I would consider myself fairly particular about coffee (a barista for 4 years) and the coffee was fine, what I would expect from a breakfast restaurant. Overall my experience at Ann Sather was very positive. Pros: Close to El, Fabulous Caramel Roll, Inexpensive Cons: Noisy, Crowded more

Did any one mention how much the coffee sucks 6/14/2005

Ordinarily, Chicago breakfast places have a hard time realizing that breakfast=coffee. In this case, however, a terrible breakfast is nicely paired with an equally terrible coffee. Like the two pewople that you hated most in high school getting married! more

Great 11/10/2004

Just a great place to go for breakfast - pancakes, eggs, everything and especially the cinnamon rolls. These are the real deal and you shouldn't leave without having one. I highly recommend this place with an emphasis on their breakfasts! Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

Always reliable 6/26/2002

The breakfasts here are always good, but this location is huge -- try not to let them put you in the far-back room. Head in on a weekday and the crowds aren't a problem. And I've never waited more than a few minutes when going before 9 on the weekends. Parking is tough -- take the Red or Brown Line. Pros: Solid breakfasts Cons: Tough parking more
