Good guys and a high quality vet

Brought me an estimate of $1200-1450 for something I had treated 5 years ago for $150. Needless to say, I wasn't on board. Eventually got them down to $600, after an hour, while...

Life Savers! 7/11/2012

My dog's belly bloated to three times it's size last weekend. I rushed him as fast as possible to the emergency room. Chris, the receptionist, took him to the medical staff in the back immediately. Dr. Cavanaugh came out in a couple of minutes, and explained my dog was shocky and required surgery ASAP. My finances are limited, so the good Doc helped me apply for a line of credit and gave a generous discount. My beautiful boy is back home and good as new! Dr. Cavanaugh and his staff are Life Savers! more

Surgery Review 12/30/2011

This place saved my dog's life! I had called in for my 7 year old lab, Marley. Marley was doing fine during the day, but later that night he couldn't get up and he was acting very lethargic. As soon as I got on the phone with these technicians, they seemed to understand the problem in a short number of words, and told me to bring him in. Once I got there, a very sweet man and woman used strecher to help me carry him into the back. Since I could not lift him up myself, this was a good beginning to our stay at this hospital. They took over from there. \r \r When I got inside, I filled out some paper work and was put into a room right away. Dr. Lan came into the room and explained that she suspected Marley had a hemoabdoman, and she would need to do a few tests to confirm this. She got my permission to do an ultra sound and some other blood tests, which was well worth the money to figure out the problem. Dr. Lan came out within a few minutes and comfirmed that my dog did indeed have a hemoabdoman, something that would kill my dog if gone untreated. She recommended I put Marley into surgery quickly to remove his spleen, and hospitalize him for a few days afterwards. \r \r I was concerned leaving Marley with people he didn't really know, and I felt very bad about leaving him for longer than a day. However, I would be devasted if I lost him earlier than expected. I agreed to the surgery and the follow-up care. The people were extremely friendly and allowed me to go to the back to say goodnight to my boy. When I walked over to his cage, I was relieved to see that he was in a very large dog-run with about 3 or 4 blankets under him, and already hooked up to an IV. He was wagging his tail when he saw me and made me feel as if he was content there.\r \r He went into surgery later that night to have his spleen removed. The doctors called me after the surgery and let me know exactly how it went. They were patient and informative with me everytime I called for an update, which was probably more than usual. Marley had to be hospitalized for three days afterwards. The treatment Marley got was phenomenal. Dr. Lan's work looked very professional as well, and Marley's recovery was as if it never happened.\r \r Now for the bill. The bill came out to be about $4,000. However, it truly was worth every penny. Marley is family to me and my husband. We are confident that the surgery and treatment was fairly priced and the hospital was honest with all charges. I am greatful that Marley is still in our lives and we have many years of memories left to create. I woud recommend this hospital to anyone looking for quality treatment and a compasionate staff. more

You saved Baby 10/10/2011

My 15 year old Baby became very sick two weeks ago. Pacing back and forth and unable to get comfortable. Once I got to the hospital she was taken to the back and examined quickly. It was discovered she had what is called a bloat. It is considered a surgical emergency. Two weeks later she is doing great. Thank you guys! more

Great vet ER 9/24/2011

I had a great experience at this ER last week. My older cat was acting lethargic and didn't want to eat which is unusual for him. He had vomited once or twice recently but of course he got worse over the weekend when my regular vet was closed and was basically vomiting everything he ate. On late Saturday night I realized that I couldn't wait through the weekend, so I brought him to Animal Emergency Center, which is where my vet refers emergencies to when her office is closed. The staff took Stanley straight to the back because he was so quiet and told me that they would have the doctor take a look right away. A few minutes later a technician (I think her name was Lorna) came up and told me that the doctor was worried because Stanley's temperature and blood pressure were low and he wanted to start some fluids right away. I signed a consent form and they asked for a deposit, and I was relieved that Dr. Cavanaugh came up to talk to me after just a few minutes to let me know what was happening with my favorite cat. Long and short is that Stanley has kidney failure, which Dr. Cavanaugh explained is common in older cats. It looks like he might have gotten a kidney infection on top of the kidney problems that older cats can get and that's why he got so sick. Dr. Cavanaugh kept him hospitalized through the weekend on fluids and antibiotics and we took him to his regular veterinarian on Monday morning. He had to stay in the hospital for another 2 days but thankfully he is doing better now and came home earlier this week. Our regular vet showed us how to give fluids under the skin to help keep him feeling OK. I was super nervous about going to an ER because I have seen my regular veterinarian since my cat was young and have never had to go anywhere else. I was glad that my vet referred me here because the staff made me feel at ease almost from the moment I walked in, and they certainly took great care of Stanley. I really appreciated the communication I got from not only the doctor but also the staff. I know Stanley won't live forever but they have helped make him feel better for now and I would not hesitate to go back if he gets sick again. If you have a pet with an emergency and live anywhere near this hospital, I would highly recommend you go here. more

My Dog's Savior 9/18/2011

My Big Boy was bite by a rattlesnake after falling into a ditch. I'm not too familiar with the area, so I asked a local friend for a recommendation, and he steered me directly to the Animal Emergency Center. My clumsy dog was getting worse by the moment and had shallow breathing. The staff immediately gurneyed him to the back and started the snake antidote. The doc was extremely compassionate and smart, and made me feel secure. Well, 3 days later he is now home and slowly recovering. What a relief that such a wonderful emergency room is in LA! more

Caring people 6/28/2011

On June 18 I brought my 15 year old cat to Animal Emergency Center in Studio City. He used to be a very healthy and happy big orange cat, who was loved very much.\r Back in April all of a sudden he started throwing up with blood, and doctors informed me that he has got lung cancer and gave him 2 to 6 weeks...........It was a very hard time for both of us....... \r I brought him to the Animal Emergency Center in Studio City early in the morning. He was already suffering, I knew....How can I express my feelings....\r Receptionist was very nice. I couldn't stop crying. Dr. Morgan Cavanaugh showed his high professionalism and compassion.\r I would strongly recommend this doctor to people whose animals need professional care and advise. more

For Those Who Care for the Unfortunate 5/30/2011

I had the most wonderful experience with Animal Emergency Center. I found a stray, mangy, puppy with a bad sinus infection. I took him to the emergency room, but am out of work and flat broke. I didn't expect anything for free, but needed some advice and maybe a little treatment if possible. The staff was extremely kind, and took time to discuss the puppies condition. They even cleaned him up and started him on antibiotics for free. They referred me to a great rescue who is now slowly reviving the little guy. I couldn't ask for a more compassionate emergency room. Thank you for taking care of the less fortunate. You are my heroes! more
