We lived in the Charleston Area for over a year before we even found out about the Angel Oak tree. This is a historic tree that is believed to be around 1500 years old. Charleston County runs the site now and you can go see the tree and visit the gift shop, etc. They usually have some kind of local artist outside doing some kind of craft, etc. This is an amazing and free place to visit. It's on Johns Island almost all the way to Seabrook and Kiawah down a dirt road. It is simply amazing. Go see it and you will not regret it. This would make a wonderful homeschool or school field trip. And, you cannot beat free!
