New location...not gone! Great burger/fries/malt joint 7/17/2007

The original Andy's Garage location on University is in fact closed, but owner Dee Traudt has opened a new ""Garage"" in the Midtown Exchange building on E. Lake Street in Minneapolis (parking ramp on E. Lake and 10th, actual building is on E. Lake and Elliot). The menu remains unchanged food-wise, but may have been downsized. Portions and flavors certainly have not been downsized, and this is still one of THE BEST places in town to grab a big, juicy, perfectly cooked burger with all the fixin's, and a generous side of hot, thick (steak-style) fries. If you still have room in your stomach after your meal, spring for one of Dee's amazing shakes or malts--creamy smooth and LARGE! you get the malt glass AND the tin!!! prices are very competitive especially for the amount of food you get, and the staff is very friendly and eager to please. You might even catch Dee waiting tables or manning the cash register on busy nights (which is many nights). I don't know how much of the charm of the old location has transferred to the new one, but I imagine that Dee won't have let very much of the classic diner style escape. The only real downside is that when Andy's is busy, it can get noisy and somewhat slow, but hey, that happens at any restaurant. This one is definitely worth more than one trip! Pros: Food, Prices, Service, Diner theme is fun Cons: can get crowded, slows down when crowded more

CLOSED 1/25/2007

This restaurant closed at the end of 2006! It is unfortunate because the food here was always good. Hope to see another restaurant here! more

Best Fries in the Cities and long lost atmosphere of family dining! 8/10/2006

We loved the menu and prices. We'll come back for the great service. A great place to take the family and enjoy the University Ave HOT RODS that cruise the streets in the summer. You feel like you've stepped back in time. Get there early because it can fill up in a hurry. No TV's blaring while you eat, and classic American Muscle Cars rolling by the window. Now thats entertainment! Pros: Great family atmosphere, good food, good prices Cons: limited seating more

Great Food 8/2/2006

This place is now closed. Pros: Great food, reasonable prices more

A nice suprise 8/1/2006

I was driving down University on a Wednesday afternoon. I saw Andy's Garage, it looked interesting and I was hungry. I ordered a salmon burger (not what you'd expect to find at a malt shop). I was seated in the nice outdoor seating area right away. The food came quickly and it was very good. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. I plan to return. Pros: Food, service, outdoor patio Cons: Plastic patio chairs more

A great summer experience 9/20/2005

This place is right down the street from Porkys. I sometimes stop at Andy's before heading to Porkys to check out all the cool cars. In the summer on a nice night you can't beat a meal at Andy's. This place has such a cool feel, it's actually built either from our on an old mechanics garage. Not to mention the food is very good, I had a ceasar salad and it was great, the appitizer platter was also excellent. I would definitely recommend this as a stop while on a nice night out. Pros: food, atmosphere, it's just cool Cons: the outdoor chairs, a bit crowded, nothing more

worst service ever 4/9/2005

A few friends and I went to Andy's on a Saturday evening. We arrived at 6:20. We received our food at 7:40. It took our waitress half an hour to take our order and close to an hour to get our food. We were not offered chips, pickles, or even free sodas or water. It was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I understand that this is a busy restaurant on weekend evenings, but we were not even warned about the long wait time. The outdoor chairs were uncomfortable, and our waitress was complete incompetent and inattentive. I will never return to this restaurant, and I advise anyone else against trying it. Cons: slow, over priced, bad service more

Great for anice day! 5/28/2004

Andy's has outdoor seating in the spring/summer/fall months great for car watching along University. Service is wonderful and you can't leave without the delicious fries and a root beer! Pros: Inexpensive, Fast, Atmosphere more

A perfect 10! Fun times! A gem! 12/15/2003

Tasty, homemade food! Try the open faced turkey sandwhich and a rootbeer float. Fun atmosphere and mixed crowd. Nice staff, lunch served fast. Great prices! Kids love it too! Toys available for kids. Parking avaiable, but limited as this place gets hopping at times. more

Gotta Stop Here 8/7/2002

Stopped out of the blue at this unique diner. The food was great ( The Fries - Fantastic ) There was nothing that was served to us that we didn't finish. Too bad we didn't have room for dessert! We have to make another trip for that alone. Besides the food, the service was FANTASTIC and we met so many friendly people. We'll be going there on a regular basis! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great people more
