What a nasty venue 4/26/2011

This place is a dump. They packed the place full and didn't put on the air. I'm sure they oversold the house--but, then again, how would they know? They collect print at home tickets at the door and do not scan them. Drinks are expensive--much more expensive than the theaters in uptown. The sound is ok, but the overpacked crowds can only be so quiet. it is a two story office space which has been gutted and the windows bricked up. It feels like you are in the Dunder Miflin warehouse. Would never go back. more

The best place in Charlotte to see a show 1/9/2011

Amos Southend is by far the best place in Charlotte to see a show. Cheap drink prices for downtown, reasonable ticket prices and incredible sound. Whoever said you will get towed must not be able to read because they have the biggest signs at the front door telling you were not to park. It's also listed on the website were you can park and were you can't. Its easy access off the light rail and there is several places to eat close by before a show. This part of town is a very fun laid back place to party. more

Decent venue, with a caveat 3/20/2010

Went to see Alkaline Trio here on 3/17/10. The show itself was good, and the beer was priced well, with only one real problem - the beer is served in glass bottles rather than plastic cups. Now, normally I would prefer a bottle to a cup (tastes better, stays cold longer, etc.), but at a rock show, especially one with an active pit, people tend to be dumb and throw things. And, sure enough, within 3 minutes of the main act going onstage, I got pegged in the face by a flying glass bottle. Luckily, neither the bottle nor my face broke, but I wasn't the only one hit and this seems like it could be a huge liability issue - not to mention the fact that the floor was covered in broken glass after the show ended. I was under the impression that there were regulations about this sort of thing, but I'm from Virginia and maybe North Carolina doesn't have the same rules when it comes to proper serving vessels at concert venues - still, I think it would be a good idea for the management to look at changing their policy, at least for the shows that could get a little wild. Pros: Good acoustics, plenty of space, decent prices Cons: Beware of glass more

Charlotte's top music venue 11/28/2009

I usually never write reviews, but after attending my third show at Amos' I had to write one . The first show I attended at Amos was Chevelle , then I went to see Hip Hop legend Rakim and after finding nothing to do the night after Thanksgiving I headed to Amos and saw this amazing Billy Joel tribute. Talk about an diverse mixture of music- Amos Southend has it. Each time I have attended a show there the sound has been great, the prices reasonable, and the staff cordial. After attending a show at the Fillmore and spending over $45 for 2drinks,2 beers and a soda($5 for a coke give me a break!!) I'll be spending much more time at Amos' Pros: Great sounding room , wide variety of shows, affordable Cons: none more

best place in town to see a show 11/26/2009

I have seen many shows at Amos and it is by far the best place in town to see a show. First off ticket prices as well as the service fees are very reasonable unlike the Fillmore. Drinks prices are very inexpensive for downtown and their is not a bad seat in the house. The bartenders are friendly and fast and the security staff keeps the place trouble free. It's right next to the light rail so getting there is a breeze. I just saw Social D and the sound system blew me away. If you want to see a great show at a great price this is the place to go. Pros: Cheap drink prices/best sound system Cons: none more

Most miserable place I've been 11/13/2009

I don't write reviews or bad comments unless it was so aweful that it needs to be said. I've been to several shows before and have never had this problem... I could not see the bands perform. The building is esthetically pleasing but it's so long and narrow that even someone who is almost 6' can't see. Thank God I've had the pleasure of seeing the band perform before but what a waste of my money... I went there to see them perform not just listen to them. I mean I could rock out to them in the car and save my money. The only way to see is be one of the first few people in line so that you can guarantee a great standing spot which is either at the stage or upstairs in the back on the rail. BUT who wants to wait over an hour and a half to get in. It's just a horrible place to go watch a band perform! Pros: Esthetically Pleasing Cons: YOU CAN'T SEE ANY OF THE SHOW more

you will get towed! 10/22/2009

my daughter attended the hanson show last night(10/21/09). she parked where she always parks. there were no signs warning that she should not park there. when she left the show, to drive back to school in spartanburg, her car had been towed, along with many others. the person that was representing the tow company had watched her park there and never warned her that she would be towed. it cost $170. and pretty much ruined the evening. i think amos' southend has a responsibility to warn it's patrons as to where they should not park, especially since they hope to attract people from other towns, not familiar with the area. i don't think we'll be going back. Pros: nice club Cons: you will get towed more

HORRIBLE. 9/26/2009

When I went here for a concert, a guy near me threw a scarf onstage and the bouncer attacked me. He pushed me, spraining my elbow, and then pulled me outside and when I finally got the point across that it wasn't me, he let me back in but made me stand in the back. I was tempted to take legal action, but I eventually didn't. The staff here is the worst group of people I've ever come across, not to mention that this place is terrible for concerts sound-wise. Never go here. Don't ever, ever waste your money on this place. Even the band I saw agreed (I'm friends with the guitarist) that the place was terrible and that they were never going to play there again. Bad choice...don't do it. Pros: none. Cons: extremely rude staff, overpriced, violent bouncers more

Always Fun 9/19/2009

I had to take two of my daughters there with their friends, haha, I lost the coin toss. I was really impressed by getting in so fast. My kids moved up to the stage and I had a good eye on them most of the time. It was loud! But the staff could hear what I ordered, and took care of me. I had no idea of the music, and mingled among the other parents there. I had a rather good time there and can't wait to see my new friends at the next one. I take it as the wife lost this one. Pros: Non_Smoking, gentle on the $$ more

Easy to get up and Close 9/10/2009

Everytime I go, I am never disappointed. The bands rock and you can get real close and see the bands sweat. I also get to meet most of the bands after the show by there bus. Can you say autograph? This place has all kinds of artist play there, local, national and tribute bands The sound is great, when I saw Shinedown I thought I was listening to a Cd. The Drink prices are amazingly cheaper than other venues and the service is swift. I was really suprized the last time I was there tht it was now non-smoking, which made the enviorment more pleasant. Pros: Price more

Don't bother with an accoustic show for sure 4/2/2009

Went to see Rocco DeLuca and The Burden tonight. Didn't know "The Burden" was one guy on the drums. Waste of money for a concert, even the performers looked bored to death. This is a great artist, and I assumed people paid to go and see them like I did but it seemed like most of the morons there got free tickets or something because they didn't seem very interested at all in actually listening to the band. The venue was non-smoking for this show and I don't understand why because there was plenty of room for circulation of air. Besides...we live in NC...where tobacco is grown and is the livelyhood of many North Carolinians. The staff was constantly crashing bottles into the trash can. Hint for the staff...IF YOU ARE HOSTING AN ACCOUSTIC SHOW....BE QUIET! Just an overall disappointment. I've only been to 2 shows here, but both times it was complete chaos. Cons: Staff...audience...yeah more

Be careful here! 3/30/2009

My 17 year old daughter attended the G. Love show here last weekend and someone slipped a "Mickey Finn" into her ginger ale. Within minutes she started to become dizzy, incoherent, couldn't focus or stay awake. I found her outside on some steps slumped over - all alone - and rushed her to the ER. I also filed a police report about this. Beware! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: May not be the safest place around more

Great for concerts 1/18/2009

Amos' always has the best artists, no matter what kind of music you like. I have seen Musiq Soulchild and Anthony Hamilton here and both concerts were amazing. I never had an issue with the place being smokey although it was rediculously crowded. I am not a person that minds standing up for concerts! It just allows you to get there early and get a good view of the stage. The sound is awesome and the tickets are never pricey! Pros: Sound, Drinks Cons: Parking (Not enough) So just park at a hotel and take a towncar! more

Best Live Music In Charlotte 3/25/2008

Great Local And National Bands. Most bandfs even hang out after the show to sign autographs. Cleaner than Treamont, Cheaper than Bobcat, BOA Stadium and Verizon. Nothing else rocks in Charlotte like Amos' Southend. Pros: The Bands were Great Cons: N/A more

Don't go here for concerts! 5/13/2007

I was very upset after trying to go to a concert here and having smoke blown all over me not once but many times. I got so upset I finally left the place before the main act came on. They also have very little seating for you and I can't stand up for 3 hours. If you want a bar, then this place is OK, but if you're going for a concert....don't bother. Cons: Smoke filled and very little seating more

Awesome Amos 11/18/2002

Mary Prankster and Angie Aparo, to simple singers, all there a month apart not even. Amos is the place to BE! Pros: Great Music, Great People, Great Hangout Cons: A bar Scene, Drunks, Smokey more

great music 8/29/2002

Ther is no other place in Charlotte to see and hear bands. The most diverse selection in the best sounding room. also the hottest bartenders in town!! Pros: great music, inexpensive, great sound more
