Utah's Most Impressive Bridal Gown Experience 3/17/2011

Alta Moda Bridal is known for having the most beautiful designer and couture bridal gowns in Utah, so my expectations were high on my first visit. My first visit (and every visit thereafter) have been nothing short of perfect. The first time I stepped foot in their boutique I was dazzled by the breathtaking gowns and impressed by the knowledgeable, professional and amazingly accommodating consultants. The attention to client needs, one on one help and knowledge of the inventory can't be beat. For my wedding I wanted two wedding gowns, one long and one short. Samples of my gowns did not exist anywhere within the state, but of course Alta Moda had an existing relationship with the label and was able to order a sample of each of the two gowns I desired. The samples arrived on time as promised and when I was ready to order them for myself there was no question I could ask that their team didn't have an answer to. I was able to select from the colors available and customize my gown as I wished. When my gowns arrived my alterations process was easy and on my wedding day my gowns were pressed ad steamed to perfection. I've since had Alta Moda preserve my gowns so I can enjoy them forever. I had a memorable experience myself, and for this reason I recommend Alta Moda Bridal to my friends and clients. Cheers to Hilary & Justin and the team of amazing people who run the show, no better inventory or experience exists within the state! more

Wedding bliss 7/17/2010

After going to almost every other dress shop in Utah and not finding anything I liked, a girl at one of the other shops told me to call Alta Moda. That was so nice of another shop to refer me to them. Right when I walked into their shop, I knew I'd find my dress there. Maybe I am picky, but I didn't want my dress to be in a scratchy, loud fabric. The dresses everywhere else we stiff and cheap looking and I wanted something nice for my wedding day. I worked with Melisa and she was so helpful, even though it took me a few visits to make my decision. She always knew who I was and had my #1 and #2 gowns ready for me. I ended up buying a Monique Lhuillier dress that I totally love. It was so unique and Melisa even help me design it so it would be modest. I got so many compliments on my wedding day. I loved Alta Moda and can't wait to bring my sister there when she gets engaged. Pros: Consultant, gowns, seamstress Cons: appointemnt only more

Nothing but l.o.v.e. 5/23/2010

Like a most of the posters, I loved every minute at AltaModa. I don't write reviews too often because I hate junk mail and registering, but each time I went into AltaModa I was welcomed with a smile and sometimes a hug. Kindof weird, but fun. They deserve it!!! Yes, their gowns are expensive, but worth it. I went on a diet before my wedding and lost alot of weight, but the seamstress Pamela took my dress in and made it perfect. My sister bought her dress in Nashville and spent about $600 for the same alterations I had but I paid less than half of that. I never felt pressured or uncomfortable, they even ironed my bridesmaids dresses I bought somewhere else. They didn't even charge me for it. The place where I bought them even wanted $25 each just to iron them. AltaModa was one of the best wedding decisions I made. My dress was perfect and its what everyone talked about m whole wedding day. Pros: Dresses, employees, seamstress Cons: Not much...wish they were open later more

Dodged a bullet! 4/29/2010

All I can say is, ""Wow."" Beautiful dresses, ugly attitudes! During our second trip to the store my daughter tried on a beautiful but costly dress, again, to see if she really loved it enough to justify the cost. When she was in the dressing room I overheard the owner, no less, tell her... ""Listen, I've done this a hundred times... go to another store, just to appease them, and then..."" she continued to explain to my daughter how to manipulate me into coming back to buy the dress. Only problem was, she didn't know that Mom was within earshot. I opened the curtain to the dressing room and told her I will NOT buy a dress from her or this store because I was NOT going to have my daughter manipulated, and I would not be manipulated, either. She, the owner, tried to put a spin on it and flat out lied to try to cover herself. Moral business ethics? Couldn't find any. Lies? Coniving? Manipulation? An abundance. Some people will do anything to make a sale. Is there a way to give no stars?? more

They saved my wedding 10/27/2009

I felt I should share my dress experience. Before visiting dress shoppes, I looked at a million dresses online. I fell in love with a Monique Lhuillier lace gown with lace sleeves. I called Alta Moda only to find out that the dress would be more than double my budget. So I went to another bridal shoppe and tried to match the dress but nothing compared. They showed me a catalog with a gown that looked almost the same, and promised me it would be just as good and half the price. Too good to be true? So I ordered in without ever seeing it. With less than a month before my wedding I find the dress arrive looking incredibly cheap being at least 5"" too short. I'm all about shoes and had the perfect pair of 3"" heels picked out way before the dress. But even with flats it would have been too short. In the stress and pressure I ordered a second dress I wasn't happy with. Brokenhearted, and with just two weeks to go, I went looking at other bridal shoppes, and gave Alta Moda another try. I knew it was cutting things close, but the staff was very helpful and friendly. I had assumed everything would be over my budget, but they showed me gowns I could afford, and I found one more beautiful than the original dress. Since it was too late to order, they sold me the floor sample, and later that same day I was meeting with the seamstress. The alterations were outstanding, and finished with enough time to still get bridal portraits taken. I felt beautiful, my wedding was saved and I couldn't be more happy. I'd recommend Alta Moda to any bride. Pros: employees, gowns, experience Cons: highend gowns more

Amazing gowns, better service 9/4/2009

Shopping has always been one of my strong points. So, when it came to finding a bridal gown, I though it would be easy. I though I could find a dress on a trip to LA or Chicago, but had no luck any place, until AltaModa. After having sales girls be so rude to me in LA, I finally started looking in Salt Lake and Park City. Going to AltaModa was instantly different. The consultant was funny and smart and listened to what I wanted...not just to what she wanted to sell. I found a perfect Monique Lhuillier gown. It came out over my budget, but it was soooo worth it. The alterations were amazing. Pamela did a perfect job. The staff has a drink for me each time I came in for alterations and always asked how I was doing with my plans. They are the best place and the only place in Utah worth going. Pros: The whole package Cons: Price... if you're not willing to spend it more

I love it there 7/26/2009

I have so much fun every time I go into Alta Moda for an appointment. I ordered my gown on the first day I went in, but had spent alot of time talking to a few of the employees over the phone first. This was so helpful. They told me what to expect, what to bring, and how long I'd have for my appointment....this made finding my dream dress easy and fun. My mom even got her MOB dress there. When my gown came in (early!) it fit so nice. I only had to have the length changed and ties put in to pull up the train. The seamstress I am working with is so sweet and knows her stuff. And she is being so sweet to get it done really fast. My engagement is short, only 21/2 months, so I had to pay extra to get my dress faster. Does it really take 4 months to make a dress? Oh well, my friends say this happens at all the shops, so no big deal. The owner or maybe one of the other girls will be coming to my bridals with me! This is so exciting that the owner would actually do this, because my mom wont be there for them. Now I don't have to worry about keeping my dress clean. Alta Moda helped with so many things. I am so happy I choose to get my dress there. Don't waste your time going anywhere else. Pros: Service, collest gowns, seamstress Cons: Their gowns take time more

so in love 6/22/2009

AltaModa was the best part of my wedding planning! They were so attentive and fun. I worked on finding my dress with Katie. She was relaxed but still professional. I never felt any stress from her (even though my engagement was ""short"") she was able to bring me dresses that work with my small time frame and budget. She even gave me business cards of people she thought I'd like for my other wedding vendors. I choose my photographer based on her suggestions and really loved them too. Like one other bride that posted here, I bought an Augusta Jones from them and had changes made. I loved my dress. It did need some alterations when it came in, but everyone tells me most wedding dresses do. I got so many compliments at my wedding about my dress. It was totally worth it. My wedding day was stressful since it rained, but I looked and felt really good thanks to them. Pros: dresses, Katie, seamstress Cons: time-frame, rush charges more

Bad Idea 6/11/2009

My dress came in very late- about two weeks before my wedding. I had to end up buying an entirely new dress a week before my wedding because it didn't end up fitting properly and looked awkward. Alta moda thinks they are the best and will treat you that way. The employees of Allta Moda lied to my face. They gave my rude looks because I was not satisfied with my dress. Do not go to Alta moda! Cons: Beautiful dresses more

Loved it there 6/11/2009

I shopped around. A lot! At semester break I even flew home to TX and went gown shopping at 4 stores with my mom and sis. Everything was a let down after going to Alta Moda. All the same brands that I tried in Dallas were at Alta Moda, but with less of the rat-race and a lot better service. The gown I ordered was by Augusta Jones, a designer that a Dallas store had, but the TX location said they couldn't do the fabric I wanted. Jamie at Alta Moda reassured me it could, and even showed me a fabric sample. After the TX experience, I was really nervous about doing it, but it came in just as promised, in my material choice, and even with custom train beading. My fiance is from Utah so are most of our friends, so we decided to hold our wedding in SLC last December. I wanted to buy my gown here so I didn't have to travel back and froth with it. Even if we had our wedding in TX, I still would have bought it at Alta Moda. Just like in the last post, they pressed my gown for me for free and delivered it to my wedding that afternoon. Pros: Best gowns, fun people Cons: Designer gowns only more

A Simple, Elegant and Refined selection with Exemplary Service 2/15/2009

Alta Moda maintains one of the finest selection of unique and varied gowns of anyplace I traveled to. Living in California, but getting married in Utah, one would think I would have an easy time finding a dress in the bay area. I went to four stores and a special Etergie, and was still unsuccessful - until I found Alta Moda, and its owner, Hilary Anderson. I was simply blown away by her exquisite taste. Dresses from all four corners of the world, in every price range - and yet the selection is not remotely overwhelming. I came twice, from out of state as I mentioned, and they were lovely. I was having the hardest time finding a dress and then suddenly I put the last one on and wallah! They got it to me on time, had it sized correctly, and we had to do very little alterations to the dress itself. My only complain would be that at least one of the alteration hemming pins stayed in the dress and it got caught on my shoe after my ceremony - that took a little while to get untied with. Pros: Elegent and Refined Selection and Impressive service Cons: minor alteration snafu more

Best Gowns Ever! 2/13/2009

After searching for the perfect gown online, I made my appointment at Alta Moda. They had a great selection of all of the gowns I'd seen in the magazines. There were two designers in specific that I was interested in, Monique Lhuillier and Anne Barge and they carried both! I worked with Hilary, and she was extremely helpful in choosing gowns for me to try on based on my descriptions and pictures that I brought in with me. Pros: Fantastic Selection of Couture Gowns Cons: Many gowns are expensive more

Beautiful Gowns with Atrocious Attitudes...and we're not even in LA! 2/4/2009

I walked into this salon with a friend of mine, fully intending to drop the big bucks on the perfect dress. They have many that are amazing and unique. It's too bad the staff cared more about their personal conversation than helping me because I never even made it to the fitting room. They did not seem to mind that we were in the in the salon, listening to their conversation, full of scathing remarks about a past client. We continued to look for about 20 minutes until we had enough of the lack of service and unprofessionalism. They may have a great selection of beautiful couture but the price is higher than that on the tag when you don't have the service or respect to back it up. I know that I don't ever want to be the client they tear to shreads in front of someone else. more

Best bridal boutique west of New York! 10/16/2008

I am completely bewildered as to the 2 poor reviews about Alta Moda and felt I should speak up, apparently thrilled brides aren't as loud as we should be. Pros: Designer gowns in Utah, Great service, Large selection of gowns that are actually unique Cons: If you are on an extremely tight budget, you may not be able to afford a designer gown. more

What a letdown! 9/25/2008

I guess I'm glad to see that someone did not have a bad experience at this place, unfortunately, it wasn't me. I can relate to the first post for sure. Sadly, Salt Lake doesn't have much to offer in the way of couture so if that's what you're looking for in this town and you happen to be getting married, you're pretty much stuck with this place - and they know it. There is no negotiation on price, like in other towns and service is really inconsistant. For a bridal shop, I never felt that they understood the sense of urgency that goes along with some situations -- like when your dress arrives late, for instance. It makes me wonder if they placed my order correctly, or can't pay their bills, or if they just all together forgot to order it until they were reminded. As for the alterations...I think I could have done better. If you absolutely feel you must shop here, a few tips of advice: don't spend too much money (it will only make you resent the whole experience all that much more), don't expect anyone to cater to your needs or go out of their way and most importantly, find a seamstress you can trust, that will listen to what you want - avoid using theirs at all costs. more

Drastically Different Opinion 8/25/2008

It's amusing to me how two people can have such vastly different experiences. I have been beyond thrilled with the experience and treatment I have been given at Alta Moda. The old saying holds very true with this boutique: ""You get what you pay for."" You will find what sets this boutique apart from others in the valley is the selection of HIGH quality designer bridal gowns and above excellent customer service. Yes, this does entail a higher price tag, but again... You get what you pay for. I have never walked into this shop without being asked if I would like something to drink within the first 3 minutes. A bridal consultant was assigned specifically to me the very first day, and has been handling my account and communicating with me ever since. She took the time to sit down with me to discuss what type of wedding I was having, what ""feel"" I was going for in a gown, and helped me with my selection accordingly. I recieve regular phone calls from her updating me on the status and progress of my gown & veil. She has even served as a kind of ""wedding consultant"" offering her advice and recommendations on completely non-gown related wedding subjects, as they deal with the various wedding vendors in the valley regularly. If that's not going above-and-beyond I'm not sure what is. May I also say that my experience with their alterationist has been lovely. She is a sweet sweet lady and is exceptionally skilled at what she does. The work that she has done on my gown has made it look as if the designer herself made the dress with me inside it. I cannot wait to wear the beautiful gown that perfectly embodies my wedding and personal style. I would recommend Alta Moda HIGHLY to any bride who wants a personal and customized experience in one of the most important decisions she will make for her wedding. After all, you only wear the dress once, but the pictures last forever! Pros: Attentive, warm, and educated consultants; High quality bridal products; Skilled alterationist Cons: You won't get it cheap, if that's your aim go to the Costco of wedding boutiques: Mary's Bridal more

Nothing good here. 8/20/2008

Horrible experience. Terrible alterations. Poor communication and customer service. Dippy staff seems to be overly medicated. Didn't even wear my $3000 dress at my wedding b/c the seamstress ruined it, plus 2 of my bridesmaids dresses. Alta Moda wouldn't remedy the issue in any way. Go to vegas, new york, los angeles, anywhere but here, for a designer dress! Pros: some nice designer gowns Cons: the owner, the staff, the seamstress, the service -- pretty much everything more
