Sooo romantic!!! 4/6/2012

The atmosphere is so romantic here. I'm glad we picked this place for our anniversary. The server, Robin, was so attentive and knowledgeable. She explained the menu to us and was at our table refilling our wine constantly. When I came back from the lady's room I found my napkin folded nicely at my place. What a nice touch. The food was excellent and the portions weren't too small, as other reviews are saying. The music wasn't loud and the whole experience was really pleasant. We'll go back for sure. more

Romantic and excellent food 5/10/2011

I find this place really romantic at night. The lights are dimmed and the tablecloth and silverware makes it look really fancy. Love the feeling. The food is great, particularly the tuna fish. It is raw in the middle and slightly grilled outside. The portion is so big that I could definitely share this plate if I didn't like it that much. Anyways, I'll go back again. The reviews speak for themselves. more

Great place for fresh large portions in midtown 4/20/2009

Being able to find a great place to enjoy a hearty lunch with friends and then to have more than enough for dinner later was a pleasure. My party had a great time and we didn't feel rushed like we have before in mid-town locations. This is on the list for next time. Pros: Fresh, home made pasta Cons: Portions so large you feel guilty leaving any behind more

Amazing Italian Food 3/11/2009

My husband and I went to Alfredo of Rome this past weekend and had a phenomenal dinner. We live in NYC but dont always take advantage of all that it has to offer, such as the restaurants, and decided to treat ourselves to some good Italian food since we hadnt had any in a while. A friend of mine recommended Alfredo of Rome and i am so glad to chose it!! My husband is Italian and is a connoisseur of Italian food and he was more than impressed. We ordered the prosciutto as an appetizer and it was delicious. It was rolled in sundried tomatoes and some kind of cheese--incredible. For an entree, my husband ordered some baked eggplant dish, which he ate every last bite of, and i ordered good ole lasagne, which was scrumptious beyond words. We were stuffed but since we were treating oiurselves, we decided to order dessert. Being a tiramisu connoisseur myself, i had to try Alfredo's, hoping for something extraordinary. Of course, it was! If you are looking for truly delicious and authentic Italian food, i definitely recommend Alfredo of Rome. Pros: Unbelievab;y delicious Italian food--great atmosphere Cons: none--it was a treat!!! more

very unimpressive 1/1/2009

The food was just not good. When I go to an italian restaurant, I expect large portions, flavor in the food, and friendly service. If you have standards for food, you would be better off going to the grocery store and simply boiling water and throwing in a box of barilla tortellini. I promise it will taste better than the pasta dishes that I had at Alfredo's. Pros: location, appearance of the restaurant Cons: food, value (not expensive, but food is really not worth it), service more

Alfredo is not like it used to be! 12/19/2008

The restaurant has really good food...but I don't know whatz been going on the past few years. They make their employees wear tacky diner uniforms - vest, tie and long aprons. Girls are not supposed to look like that! They are supposed to be classy. I don't understand what was wrong with the black clothes they used to wear? Now they all just look like men. The girls that answer the phone don't know what they are doing.!!!! And it is not as clean as it used to be. I guess I'm just stuck in the past, but I'd like to see a change in the management.... thank god they have the same chef!!!!!! but overall great food!!!!!! more

The perfect place to stretch a business lunch 10/12/2008

Whenever you eat near that area, you expect those prices, so that point would be futile. The place is nicely decorated, music wasn't loud and because of its size, it didn't feel crowded even when it was. Servers and management are all very friendly and eager to recommend a new dish or a drink. The reason I named the review like I did, is because they take a long time for everything, hence if you need to keep someone at the table for a long business lunch, this is the right place. Food is very tasty and properly served, but is never hot, it doesn't matter what you order. The quality of food is average, what does stand out is the desserts, which are very good and they have a great variety of them. I would make it a point to avoid this place for dinner, it doesn't matter how late you come, you'll never find parking (it will cost around $50 to park a couple of hours in a garage) and the lighting of the place is not appropriate for the night. Pros: Location, friendly servers Cons: Parking, food temperature, long waits more

Good Malfatti! 9/12/2008

I went here last night for a birthday dinner with my brother. We were seated promptly and our waiter was friendly (although it was a bit difficult understanding him with his heavy italian accent). The spicy marinara sauce they have for dipping with the bread is amazing. I salad they had as a special of the day, which was pretty tasty. For my entree, I ordred the Malfatti (a gnocchi-like dish made with spinach and ricotta).....all I can say that it was so good, I cleaned my plate! I was so stuffed when I left the restaurant, but it was worth it because I was happy! Pros: good food! Cons: slightly slow service.....but at good italian restaurants, you're supposed to wait a while for your meal more

A stellar disappointment 5/7/2008

A great disappointment! With my wife and daughter, I visited Alfredo's restuarant last Friday and discover that bad ""Italian"" food may be served in one of the greatest cities in the world. I have been to the original Alfredo in Rome and this restaurant does not live up to said name. The fettucine is so so and the pasta that I order, which was prepared with lobster, was insipid and badly cooked. My family is of Italian origin and I have tasted Italian food both in Italy and other parts of the world but this must be one of the worst experiences considering the cost. Service was just OK, as well as the decor. I would under no circumstance recommend this restaurant to anybody. Cons: Higly priced, badly cooked pasta more

Great food and service!!!! 4/18/2008

My friends and I recently visited Alfredo of Rome for lunch. All I have to say is that the service was superb!!! We were greeted at the door by two lovely hostesses one of which promptly seated us at our table. Although it was fairly crowded we were able to get a quiet corner. As the hostess was leaving our table-the waiter was already waiting to greet us. He was very polite and attentive. He asked us if we were interested in the specials of the day and told us the whole story behind the famous fettuccine Alfredo. After his great description that is exactly what my girlfriends ordered. I chose to have penne a la checca. For an appetizer we had to try the Italian sushi. It was absolutely delicious. Our waiter came by to check on us frequently without being annoying. The busboy was great, he brought us water at the right time and was also very polite. I chose to have a cappuccino and pane cotta for dessert. One of my friends had chocollatisimo and the other decided to have finnochio. I think we all agreed that it was a great finish to a great meal. As we were getting ready to leave, the manager came by to say hello and introduce himself. My experience at Alfredo was just great. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: food, service, location more

Just like being in Italy 1/23/2008

I am a frequent traveler to Italy....mainly for the the food and wine...and Alfredo is like dining in Rome. The ambiance is unique for an Italian restaurant, but perfect for New York. The food is delicious and typical of what you would find in one of the best restaurants in Rome. The Fettucine Alfredo are the best ever and a must whenever there. The ""sushi"" appetizers are an awesome combination of flavors. Tons to choose from on the wine menu. The bar is a fun atmosphere and perfect for an after-work cocktail. Alfredo has become one of my favorite Italian restaurants in NYC, so I recommend it! Pros: Food is Italian with a twist; great for lunch or dinner more

Outrageous and Shameful!! 1/7/2008

I and two of my dear friends visiting from St. Petersburg, Russia, stopped by at Alfredo's on Sunday night (January 6, 2008) for a drink and deserts after our dinner at China Grill. Now, I have been at Alfredo's many times myself before - my office used to be across the Fifth Avenue. In fact, I even have their ""Red Card"" (for frequent guests). Service was never stellar, but acceptable; food was never spectacular, but okay by NY standards; I liked their cosmos, however. This Sunday night, the treatment I (we) have experienced there, was not only not welcoming, but it was truly despikable and very very offensive. A waiter (should have ask this guy's name and take his picture!!) after being moderately rude and taking his time to take us to our table, expressed his loud dissatisfaction with the fact that we didnt tell him in advance that we were there for desserts/drinks only by arguing with us and finally, told us to go ""F...myself"" and yes, I quote!! Then he grabbed back the menus and left us standing there in the main dining room. After few minutes, we went back to the bar area. I asked to speak with the manager who appeared in few minutes and apologized for his staff's rude behaviour. The manager spoke with that waiter for few minutes after which that same waiter passed by us and told us loudly that he is ""not going to apologies"". As whatever happened before was not offensive enough!! The manager told me that he fired the guy and can not do anything more then that. We left. I am still in shock of that behaviour!! It never ever happened to me at any place I was in NYC, and I have explored NY well! Needless to say, I will never go back and will advise all my friends against going there!! Cons: Not acceptable service! more

My Great Dining Experience in NYC 11/5/2007

Saturday's lunch at Alfredo of Rome was an amazing experience. My friends and I started with the Frittura alla Romana (calamari) and Gorgonzola with Pear Pizza for appetizers. For my main course I tried the Straccetti alla Trasteverina. Beef cooked to perfection presented to me on a bed of arugula. The service was excellent as well. I will definitely be back to try more delicious food from the menu. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

Best Fetuccini in New York! 9/23/2007

Alfredo's in New York City reminds me of Alfredo's in Rome. Fetuccini is the best! I would highly recommend it to anyone going to New York. The service was excellent. The waiters were fun. Food was very very good! Yummmm!!! more
