Their Customer Service Is Extraordinary! 1/31/2019

I had hired another company to fix my air conditioner, and it broke a week later. I contacted Alaskan Air Conditioning & Heating, and they came out and fixed the problem. They told me that the other company had used the wrong parts and they helped me report them. Instead of taking advantage of my crisis, the technicians at Alaskan Air Conditioning & Heating helped me solve the problem and gave me more than I paid for. I recommended them to my mother and she bought a whole new air conditioning and heating unit from them. She also got the same quality service. I have had a great experience with their technicians. They are all knowledgeable and professional, and they go above and beyond. Excellent Service! more

5 stars for service. 12/28/2018

Earl Diaz, the Tech assigned to us, provided excellent professional service when performing scheduled maintenance on our A/C and Heating units. He provided what appeared to be a fair for value inspection of our units and replacement suggestions and estimates. Earl has always been punctual with scheduled appointments, and cleaned up after his inspections and service. more

They were excellent, very reliable, came out quickly, explained everything, 12/12/2018

This was our first time using Alaskan Air Conditioning & Heating. We were referred to them from a major local hardware store and I sure am glad we went with them. They replaced our AC. We spoke with Scott and he was wonderful. He went over several options for us and also helped us arrange financing. He made the whole process seamless. The technicians who came out were prompt, respectful of our home and took ample time explaining everything about the duct work and showed us how to use the new thermostats. They also answered our questions without making us feel rushed or feeling like they were brushing us aside like other companies do. They were tidy and left no messes and they spent quite some time going over the service plan with us as well. They even came back afterwards (a few days later) to make sure everything was up and running properly and to make sure we were happy. You just don't find those type of nice, extra touches from many companies these days. I really liked them and will continue using them. If you need heating and ac work done don't hesitate to call Alaskan Air Conditioning & Heating! more

Deceptive and over priced 11/25/2018

On November 15 the Tucson branch of Alaskan performed routine maintenance on my heat pump, or so I thought. The tech said the VAD was not within specs and he strongly recommended that it be replaced. I tried repeatedly to have him explain what a VAD is but he just kept repeating technical terms about a vacuum something or other which I repeatedly said I did not understand. He stressed bad things could happen to my compressor and that would be thousands of dollars to repair if the VAD failed. He said I needed to sign an agreement on his computer tablet before he could proceed and the cost would be $589.00. I again asked that he please tell me exactly what a VAD is and he again gave me technical jargon about current and arcing. After acting sincere that the work needed to be done I agreed to the repair. I watched as he installed a capacitor in less than 20 minutes and then he began closing up the unit. I asked when he was going to replace the VAD and he said that is what he did. I noted that the box containing the capacitor was clearly marked “capacitor”.The capacitor he installed costs $12.87 at Home Depot. So for a part that retails for less than $13 he charged nearly $600.00...This was in addition to the maintenance service charge. His intent clearly was to deceive me into believing the repair was a complicated and expensive undertaking rather than being honest. I called the Tucson office and was told no manager was available to speak with me. I called the Tempe office where it appears the corporate officers are located and was told I had to get back in touch with someone in Tucson. After making three calls to the Tucson office I finally received a call back from Gary the manager. He said the VAD is a voltage absorption device, I asked is that the same as a capacitor? He acknowledged it is the same thing. I asked why the tech refused to tell me that. Gary defended the tech's deceptive answers saying it is a VAD. He also acknowledged that he would have handled my request for a clear layman's description of a VAD in the same manner as the tech had. For what reason other than greed and deception would both the tech and manager object to telling a customer who requested multiple times a clear, and honest answer a response in layman's terms to his question? The reason appears to be that an honest answer would have cost the company a $589.00 pay day. It has a also cost them a customer. I filed a complaint with the BBB and on November 23 I received an email from BBB that the respondent (Alaskan) states they have no record of me as a customer. The emailed invoice I received from the Alaskan branch in Tucson shows the same Arizona contractor's license number as the location listed in Tempe for the corporate office. BBB states I must submit a copy of an invoice as proof of my claim as Alaskan claims to have no record of me as a customer.. Alaskan's response per the email I received from BBB was “Can’t find them in our system and this zip is not in Phoenix “. Oddly, on November 15 Alaskan had emailed to me their invoice number 507852, the same day they cashed my check for $728.90. RESPONSE FROM Alaskan Air Conditioning & Heating: Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. I understand that sometimes people don’t understand the cost difference between the part and what it takes to have a mobile air conditioning mechanic with a loaded rolling warehouse arrive at your house diagnose the problem and have everything they need to get the job done and get you back up and running with in 24hrs of the initial call. You may also not understand all of the other expenses like people answering the phones, having an accounting department, or all the legalities like insurance. Hopefully this explanation helps you understand better so that when you call another company and they charge as much or more you will remember this. -We have compared the pricing to all the major companies in town and we are competitive if not better on service rates. I wish you had gotten some pricing from the other major companies in town prior to writing this because you would have come to that same conclusion. If you own a vehicle and are able to diagnose the mechanical problem and install the parts yourself, your price will be a fraction of what and mechanic would charge to do the same work. It is no different in the HVAC trade. Most people are not able to diagnose and repair their own vehicles or their HVAC systems and are happy to pay a professional to do the work rather than buy the parts off of Amazon or eBay as you have suggested and do it themselves. The following is an explanation on the breakdown of how we must price things out to stay in business. I hope that this finds you well and after reading through this will have a better understanding of HVAC companies and how they price out their services. Service cost breakdown: all percentages are approximate and may change based on the part being replaced. -The part cost 1% -Direct labor(highly trained, background checked, drug tested, NATE certified technicians with years of experience) 17 to 20% -Gas 1-2% -Fully stocked vehicle(rolling warehouse) purchase, repairs and maintenance 4-5% -Workmen's Comp./health insurance 30 1/2% of payroll -Licensed, bonded, insured(2 million coverage) to protect you, your family, and your home 2-3% -FICA Taxes 7 1/2% of Payroll -Marketing 6-8% -Accounting department 5-7.5% -Answering and dispatching calls 7-10.5% -Company property expenses 5% -Department management 4-5% -Ongoing technician training 3-5% -Sales tax approx. 6% -Average costs of all banking, financing and credit card fees averaged over all customers cash and financed. 5% -Company provided tools and equipment so that we can provide the highest level of advanced diagnostic equipment available to find things that many of our competitors miss 4-5% -Uniforms 1.5-2% -Computer and phones 2-3% -Service/dispatching software 3-5% -Funds to keep the staff onboard in the slow season when there is not enough business so that we have the staff we need in the summer so that you get your system fixed when it's 115 degrees outside and don't have to wait 10-15% -If everything goes perfectly that hopeful net profit at the end of the year 8-15% although it's extremely challenging to achieve. Of which more than 50% will be reinvested for growth. Each year we have more and more customers that we need to serve. -If we are to continue to serve our customers with a guarantee of being cool within 24 hrs. of the call 24/7/365 none of the above expenses can be sacrificed. more

Good customer service 1/11/2018

Tech came in and checked system. He went into the attic and checked blower and he said the motor was bad. Good thing I had PMA contract otherwise he said it would cost 1500 dollars. He showed me pictures of the vanes of the blower unit and all the dust on them. He said he could clean them for additional fee when he comes back to replace the motor. I asked him if they are supposed to be checked during the 6 month checks and he said yes. I then told him none of the techs go into the attic to check the blowers. He told me to contact the company and report this issue. more

Very Good Experience! 11/2/2017

I've been using Alaskan Home Services for years and years! I have a three-year-long service contract with them that I've been renewing, and I will certainly continue to do so! As a company, they're very professional, and easy to schedule and work with. Every employee I've ever interacted with has been competent and polite, and they're consistently on time. They're really very good, and I would definitely recommend them! more

Great Experience 10/5/2017

Overall, I had a very good experience with Alaskan Home Services. They just came and did some work for my air conditioning unit and I was very happy with the results that I got from them. I would recommend them to other people based on the experience that I had. I thought that the pricing was okay, and that everything turned out very well, so I'm happy with the work that they have provided for me. I hope they keep up the good work. more

Good Company 9/14/2017

I have used Alaskan Home Services for about four or five years and I think they do good work. I'm in real estate and I've not only used them myself, I've also recommended them to others. I think the last time I called them in, they did an air conditioner repair for me. They are professional and efficient in the work they do. I think the pricing they offer is pretty reasonable. pricing reasonable. I had them check over one of my sales houses, just a tune up of basics, and they did pretty well with that in terms of promptness and pricing. Overall, they're a good company. more

Overall Decent Service, Not The Best, Not The Worst 8/11/2017

In general, Alaskan Home Services has done some good work for me but I have had some issues in the past with them, including some un-kept promises. In terms of standard maintenance, they do a good job and the pricing is very reasonable. The do keep sending a different guy out to my home to do the services and each guy keeps trying to upsell me on products, which is guess is part of their job but it irks me a little. Overall they do a good job but there are just some small things that keep me from giving them 5 stars. I will continue to call them up for service though. more

Not Good Experience 8/4/2017

I had Alaskan Home Services come in to do an inspection of an air conditioning unit prior to a sale. The breaker kept popping. I had them in three times and they couldn't really fix it. I called in another company and they identified that Alaskan Home Services hadn't maintained the unit properly. They hadn't cleaned the coils and they had allowed the insulation to fall against the fan thereby causing the short circuit. I don't think I will use them again. more

A Terrible Experience 7/26/2017

I had a terrible experience with Alaskan Home Services, the whole five years was terrible. I bought a contract with the company and initially, the sales guy comes out trying to sell me all kinds of stuff I didn't need. I could have gotten over that, but every single time they come out they try to upsell you. They were always trying to sell me on something I didn't need or want. The guys were always late. I don't think they ever checked their schedule. I would make appointments and they wouldn't show up on time, or would even show up on the wrong day. Every time you had someone different who came out, there was no consistency at all. Getting a hold of customer service is a nightmare. I would tell other people not to use them. more

Great Service, Very Pleased! 7/5/2017

I recently went to Alaskan Home Services to have a repair done on the air conditioner in my house, and was quite satisfied with how the work from them went. I was in a crisis when I called out to them because it was over 80 degrees outside and I had animals that were overheating. The repairs were completed quicker than I had been expecting and we haven't had any issues with the air conditioner since the repairs were completed. Overall I think Alaskan Home Services did an excellent job, I highly recommend them. more

Employees Seem Under-Trained or Just Uninterested 6/30/2017

Alaskan Home Services provides warranty service for my AC unit and I've been consistently disappointed with their service. This is second year in the row that I've had this kind of service. The gentleman came out, pulled the cover off the unit, did some testing and spent a lot of time talking. He said the unit was in great shape and asked me to sign the receipt, but the thing was that he didn't clean coils, he didn't look at the heat exchange unit, he basically did the bare minimum to get in and out as fast as possible. I have to say, however, that this is completely typical of this company. They have terrible service. Last year the service was bad as well and I don't know how but somehow the manager found out about it. They sent someone else out here who bent over backwards to give me good service, but it seems like some of their folks don't know what they are doing or just don't have very much interest, I don't know. I couldn't recommend their service at all. I have warranty on the unit and they service the warranty, but I know how you're supposed to clean the coils and he never even looked at the coils. That's the kind of company this is. What makes me feel really bad is that a while back I recommended them to 7 other neighbors who bought from them on my account. I feel guilty about that. I would never do that again. more

I'm not likely to recommend them 6/19/2017

I've been using Alaskan Home Services for a couple years. We bought the maintenance agreement last summer. Something happened with the motor in the condenser, and they came out and replaced it. That didn't work, and they came out again right away to replace it again. We had to pay a pretty good sum even though we had a maintenance agreement. I wasn't happy about that. more

They get the job done 6/16/2017

Alaskan Home Services came recently for my spring check up. They checked my air conditioning unit and washed the outside of it. I've been with them for 15 years. I like the service. I like the people; they're always very friendly. more

Good Company 6/5/2017

Alaskan Home Services did a good job for me. I did have some problems which were very frustrating. But they stepped up to the plate and dealt with everything as best they could. Ron was very wonderful and helped as much as was possible, which I appreciated. There were some issues, but everything is fixed now and it's working well. more

Prompt and Professional 5/31/2017

Alaskan Home Services have done work for me on multiple occasions. Most recently I called them to deal with an air conditioning system I was having issues with. Their repairmen are professional and efficient, and they had the air conditioning running in no time. They arrive on time and do a good job. more
