Good selection, very trendy boutique 11/2/2009

You can find good deals here and there, but if it's not on sale, it's definitely over priced. I enjoyed the large selection of clothing and the sales person was very helpful. The quality of the clothing might not be the best, and the clothing is very trendy. Pros: Helpful staff, sales Cons: Unoriginal clothing more

Great Shoes! 8/3/2009

When I first moved to Chicago there was only 1 Akira on North Avenue in Bucktown/Wicker I think there are about 5 spanning from the old neighborhood to's kind of disconbobulated. \r \r Anyways, despite the geographical challenges, I have always shopped for shoes there and will continue to do so. They have veyr affordable unique shoes that I cannot find in other botiques or large chains. They do carry style trends but many of the shoes there are just great looking shoes that no one else has which look great forever! Pros: Very trendy yet unique selection Cons: I feel like there are about 15 of these stores scattered! more

overrated 6/2/2008

My friends recommended that I should go to Akira because according to them they have amazing unique clothes. So I went?.and I was not impressed! I went there ready to waste my money! They do not have any unique clothing. All their merchandise seems cheaply made and the prices are overpriced! I do not understand what the hype with Akira is. Don?t shop here; there is nothing special about this store! It was a huge disappointment.. Cons: overpriced more

akira: temple of the gods 4/9/2008

omg! i totally cannot understand these negative reviews from some of you! AKIRA is totally like the trendiest store in Chicago and we should all bow our heads in honor of this divine blessing bestowed upon us! i mean really, if you can't afford to pay $600 for a jacket that obviously cost $6 to make and lasts only as long, then you're like this totally scummy loser! sorry, no trashy regulars here! \r \r AKIRA is NOT for just anyone, but for the super pretentious who rejoice in being sold cheaply made trendy clothes from a super pouty and aloof aspiring actor/bartender/retail salesperson who is literally paid to act akiraesque. please sweethearts, if you haven't yet mastered the social graces one naturally develops by age 4, you might as well stay in retail -- just don't expect to be taken seriously.\r \r btw, return policy is a joke which, itself, suggests that these losers don't believe in their own products. better clothes, styles, and values from virtually any store in the city.\r \r still, there are bigger losers than the staff...the customers!\r \r more

VERY poor quality/service 6/18/2007

What a terrible store. The shoes I bought fell apart after 3 wears and they won't take them back because they have been worn outside and I'm past the 7 day window for returns by one day. Sorry, but shoes should last more than a week and 3 wears, if they don't, you should fix the problem! I was told that they fell apart because they are cheap. Ummm, so why did you sell them to me? Really, I have never experienced such awful customer service. The guy made me feel like it was my fault for buying the $30 pair of shoes in the store. more

Trendy with a twist 3/2/2007

This is a shop that I visit on more than one occasion. I love there service and there trendy pieces. I was hosting a birthday party for myself and I wanted something very way out and trendy. The sales rep was very helpful! I was originally going to go with a basic chocalate dress, but she suggested something a bit excotic and I loved it!! When I went across the street to the shoe store, they were very friendly and assisted me in buying the approiate shoes. They gave me their input and even suggested diffrent shoes. I always receive wonderful service from the staff when I visit this establishment. Pros: It is very trendy Cons: The parking may be a little tight at times. more

Terrible, snobby service, no returns 2/18/2007

Stay away! Terrible, snobby service. I had to seek someone out to talk to for ten minutes. When a sales person finally broke away from personal conversation, they treated me as though I didn't deserve to be in their store. There are many better boutiques on Milwaukee and Damen in Bucktown/Wicker Park that have better designs and friendlier staff. Plus, you can't return anything. If you catch the owner there, you may get away with store credit if you're lucky. Cons: snobby staff, small selection, no returns more

Keeps getting better! 11/21/2006

I loved this place when it was half the size and right down the street from my place. It just keeps getting better (not to mention, bigger!) - great selection and you can find some great deals too! Check out the shoe store by the same name across the street too! Pros: Amazing selection, great staff, valet parking more

Great selection of funky, unique clothes and footwear!! 11/20/2006

Whether you are looking for the perfect outfit for friday night or something for a special occasion, Akira can help you out. My favorite Akira store is their shoestore. Although some shoes can get pricey in there, their selection is so fresh and cutting edge. You definitely feel like you're getting something hot when you shop there. \r \r I love Akira!! Pros: Great selection! Unbeatable style Cons: Not cheap. more

Ridiculous Return Policy 10/4/2006

I bought a pair of boots at the Akira on North Ave., wore them inside at my office for a day, and noticed the zipper had partially detatched from the leather. The boots cost over $100 so I immediately brought them back to the store. After explaining the situation to the mysterious store owner over the phone, the sales girl came back to tell me my 2 day old boots could not be returned or exchanged, and I wasn't given the option of store credit. Had I broken the boots myself, I would understand, but even the sales girl said it was a manufacturing problem and the boots had been poorly made. Akira sold me a broken pair of boots and now I'm stuck with them. Customer service is awful and unreasonable- Buyer beware! more

Trendy Short Stop 1/25/2005

I love this little store. I've only been to the on Clark, but the customer service was great. They asked me what I was looking for and suggested items that fit my individual style. They do have a harsh return policy, however, it was outlined to me before I left the store and they explained that it was because they have a high turnover for their clothes...once an item is gone...that's it! Plus they're so small..they have to make a profit somehow! If you love individual wearable items...this is the store for you. They have lots of great clothes and even a small variety of brands (including free people!) GO CHECK IT OUT! Pros: convience, selection, customer service more

TERRIBLE Return Policy!! 12/30/2002

For holiday shopping, I decided to purchase from a neighborhood retailer this year. Unfortunately I made the mistake of shopping at Akira. I attempted to return an item and was only offered in store credit as opposed to a full refund. Unlike national chain competitors, they have the following returns policy which is not clearly stated to consumer at time of purchase: 7 day period to return, must have tag attached to item, no sale or promotional items may be returned, in store credit only. This policy is framed in small print to the left of the single check out register and is not discussed @ time of purchase. I don't recommend shopping here. Pros: location, prices, none Cons: returns policy, poor quality clothing, none more
