  • Aikido is a defensive, non-violent and non-competitive Japanese martial art. It is a total discipline for physical, mental & spiritual growth. Physical benefits are increased strength, endurance, coordination, balance & stress reduction. Aikido can generate the vitality to promote health, happiness & goodwill for ourselves and others. Because Aikido does not depend on physical strength, it is equally attractive to men & women. The Chief Instructor is Lee Crawford,6th Dan. She has been training for 34 years. Crawford Sensei has trained extensively with Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan. The dojo is affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba. Visitors from all affiliations are welcome.Adult Aikido The real purpose of Aikido training is to strengthen the quality of the student's life. As they refine their reaction to stress and pressure in the physical training, they can refine their reaction to stresses in daily life and in their relationships with others. Aikido students learn to be grounded and centered in their daily lives. Aikido training improves concentration, mental clarity, self-confidence and self-image. There are many reasons for practicing Aikido. It is practical self defense and helps develop balance and coordination. The reasons for practicing Aikido are as varied as the students. Ranking is done through a system of nationally standardized tests. Tests are given periodically by the chief instructor. There are no contracts and dues are paid on a monthly basis. It differs from other martial arts as the goal of blending with a partner plays an important role. Aikido helps children learn to deal with difficult situations in a non-violent manner. They are taught not to clash or become tense when they encounter conflict, but to relax and redirect the negative situation without the threat of injury. This process builds good social and communicative skills.Aikido teaches children body awareness, sensitivity to movement and coordination. Aikido training develops self confidence and a positive self image and facilitates the acquisition of early developmental skills. This is done using non-competitive games as tools for teaching children how to cooperate and succeed. Games teach the child how to have fun while receiving additional benefits such as increased awareness of their surroundings and developing a concept of cooperation with the others students.
