Best SF made bread 3/29/2010

I love Acme's herb slab bread. It is really flavorful and delicious. The acme bread is reasonably priced and always fresh. It's worth the trip to the Ferry Building to get some of their great varieties. Pros: Inexpensive, fresh, great varities more

Yummy, crusty, immorally tasty bread. 9/23/2007

This bread is fantastic, despite the lines that form outside to buy it and the hassle of having to know what you want by the time you get to the front of the line. (The signs are all on the racks and the pressure to decide is immense. Of course, some discourteous people don't care and take 10 minutes in the front of the line to choose their breads). Pros: Bread that is out of this world Cons: Soviet Bread-Line style service. Long waits. more

Best Ciabatta 7/20/2007

Better than SemiFreddi which is pretty good. Way better than Grace or any other Ciabatta. I get mine at Whole Foods and keep it in the wrapper inside a loose plastic grocery bag so it keeps fresh for a couple days. Wish they carried it at Safeway or Albertsons. more

Best bread around 5/9/2007

Lucky for us bay area folks, we have Acme Bread-- you can get it at the ferry building or at some markets all around the bay area. Crusty artisan breads are reliably moist on the inside and hard and crusty on the outside. Buy the bread the same day you'll eat it, because it does dry out quickly (as all good bread does). I LOVE their olive bread and my husband (who doesn't like green olives) loves their rosemary/potato bread. Fantastic rosemary foccacia also. Pros: Great bread, plus you can now get sandwiches at the ferry building Cons: Go find a bench-- no tables/etc-- but it is a bakery, so its fogivable! more

Delicious fresh bread! 3/21/2007

Acme bread is always fresh and tasty, and is much more authentic than you can find anywhere else! Great for sandwiches or a side with dinner. I am a huge fab of the herb slab - slice, pop in the oven for a few minutes, and enjoy the warm and airy bread! The location at the Ferry Building is also fun and busy, in a central location at the Embarcadero bustling with activity, and always with new sights to see. Make sure to go for the Thursday farmers' market to really take advantage of the area. Pros: delicious, great location more

Best Bread In Town 11/16/2006

If you are a fan of fresh bread then this is the place for you. They have a great variety and the staff is very knowledgable about breads. The olive loaf is heaven. The location is perfect. I never thought I could excited about a bread store. Pros: Best bread, knowledgable staff more

Authentic french bread! 5/17/2004

Hands down, this place has some of the best, most authentic bread and pastries in the Bay area! The baguettes are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside...just like in France! The chocolate croissants are also wonderful! Don't miss this place when you're puruseing the farmers market. Pros: fresh crusty baguette, authentic more
