FOOD POSIONING 4/18/2008

I ate here last night with a few of my girlfriends and me and my other girlfriend were throwing up all morning from eating here last night. Their food was dirty and their fish was bad. On top of all of this, the service was horrible. We had to remind our waitress 3 times about our order. The green tea tasted like it was a week old with chemicals as its main ingredient. And even if you are looking at this review wondering ""oh all you can eat sushi"", their menu only entitles you to some things, not all, which means no appetizers. Stay far away from this place, there are so many good sushi spots around here and this is not one of them. Pros: not crowded Cons: dirty sushi, bad service more

Fresh, fresh, fresh 2/10/2008

There is a lot of talk about toxic residues in raw fish. So it is important to trust a sushi chef to only serve you the cleanest and freshes fish. The owner of Acashi, Jay, knows! And he treats his fish like his costumers: with respect. My husband recently told me that you can tell a good sushi bar from a bad one by the way the chef wraps the fish back up after taking a slice off. Watch Jay, and you know that his fish is top of the line. The salmon and tuna melt in your mouth. The yellowtail is garnished with the prefect mix of spiced dressing and crunchy herbs. The rolls don't have fancy names but a great composition of complementing textures and tastes. My husband and I have long become regulars. The all-you-can-eat menu is great and who can get enough of really good and wholly healthy fish? Pros: fresh, friendly, no attitude Cons: closed at random times more

Great local spot 1/16/2008

OK, this isn't the fanciest sushi bar, nor does it have the most amazing food ever. What it does have is great, friendly service, good food, and a great local vibe. Usually it's people from across the street at CBS Radford who come here or us neighboorhood folks. I have never had a bad meal here. Crunch roll is yummy and they give you lots of free extras. It's relaxed and never crowded. Pros: service, location, value more

Not terrible but.. 11/22/2006

This isn't the best sushi I've had. It's not mediocre but even in Toluca Lake I've had better sushi. Santa Monica of course has some of the best in SoCal. I keep hearing about how great the sushi is in the valley but this as well as other places I've been haven't done much to convince me. Their fish selection was decent but they didn't have higher-end selections like swordfish or barracuda (which can be found elsewhere). They had many non-Japanese selections like dynamite rolls and whatnot, which weren't bad but diverted their focus away from their nigiri selections. I came here on the recommendation of a friend and it wasn't bad. But I'm going to keep looking elsewhere for sushi. Pros: decent rolls, parking lot, ambiance Cons: so-so nigiri more

The best sushi in the valley! 2/5/2006

The fish is AMAZING! Try the albacore, or the yellowtail belly. The sushi chef Jay is always super friendly and ready to pour you a shot of sake. I go here about 2 times a week and can't seem to get enough. Pros: price, staff, location more
