Not a great experience - went there to get mani/pedi...took over FOUR hours It's a crap shoot for how well your nails are done (they are students and therefore still learning) but for the price, I didn't think is was worth it. The chairs you sit in for the mani are uncomfortable - especially for how long you will be there - and the pedis are very LOW budget with the girls going to fetch warm water in a bucket and sitting on a sofa that looks like they found on a street. Just remember, you get what you pay for....... more

Focused Training 11/2/2011

I just finished my 600 hours and want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Academy on the focused training. I am an older woman reinventing myself, and having many trainings in my lifetime, I believe I know good training when I receive it. I am fully confident I have everything I need to pass the State Board. THANKS Academy. more

best school 1/9/2010

sanitation and safety are taught first and foremost. teachers are very talented and teach you everything they know. if you have a question, they show you how to do it not just tell you. Pros: hands on learning, family owned and operated Cons: needs another teacher, gel nails are separate more

Horrible 5/4/2009

I am also a former student of the Academy and I completely disagree with ""Genie"". The education I received was not at all what they promised. Sanitation should be number one on the list of curriculum and instead we were taught to reuse implements that are meant to be thrown away and to work on clients that have a fungus... "" if we turn them away, that's money walking out the door"". Theory is not given on a regular basis nor are the students supervised as they are working on clients. And Genie... have you heard of Pedi Thrones? That's what should really be used in a salon or school. Who cares about the selection of polishes when you are walking out with botched nails because students aren't taught how to properly use nippers and the client ahead of you had a fungus... I think you have bigger things to worry about. And don't get me started on the attitude of the staff... Linda is one of the most condescending people I have ever met. Most students learned quickly to walk on egg shells around them. When the staff is mainly family and they out number the other employees like 5 to 1 its really hard to be heard if you have any concerns. So.... I agree with Brianna! I would never recommend this school to anyone. Pros: Can't think of any... Cons: sanitation, education, attitude, greed! more

Dismal 4/30/2009

I would have to agree with Brianna, I attended the academy a few years ago and it was a terrible experience. The owner is very condesending she is only polite if your a paying customer. Your supervision while performing services on clients is minimal which isn't helpful to the students or safe for the clients. The place was not in the best condition when I attended the academy I can only imagine the condition of the school now. After leaving the academy I was able to work at a salon where I was mentored by someone who really was able to show me the things I should have learned at school. Cons: Sparse Education, Condesending Instructors, Haphazard more

Best place for a great pedicure 4/9/2009

I have been getting pedicures from the Nail Academy since they opened on 35th and Northern ( 7+ years) and have always received excellent service. Safety and cleanliness is #1. And the students love their work and need the practce. And the price is right. I go every other week! Pros: Clean, Safe and Relaxing Pedicure more

Don't do it! 4/8/2009

So, recently I decided to try out the nail academy for a mani/pedi. What a mistake that was. From the rude staff to the decor of the place... it was all around a bad experience. Lets just start with the pedicure... they are done out of the little portable foot massage tubs that you can buy at walmart. I swear I saw sparks fly when the student plugged it into the busted wall outlet .And the poor girls look miserable hunched over on the rigidity pedi carts that are provided for them. I think OSHA needs to be called and quick! I don't know how these students continue to go to school everyday... maybe its the ""words of inspiration"" hung up in the dingy bathroom, the movie posters taped to the cracked window or the hot Arizona breeze blowing in from the propped open door (because they don't want to turn on the AC). I honestly don't know what else to say but that this is a poor excuse of a school and should be closed down until the owners get their act together... if that's possible. I truly believe that the only reason they are still standing, is because this is the only nail school around. I would never recommend this school to anyone and will never return. more
