Great food, rude staff 10/28/2010

I chose to have a girls night out dinner here during Restaurant Week as many of us had never been to Acacia. I made a reservation for 12 three weeks in advance. We ended up having 13 in our party the day of our reservation. The hostess acted extremely rude and refused to accommodate us so one of our guests offered to leave to alleviate the situation. The food was superb but I would never go back to this restaurant again. You can get excellent food AND excellent customer service elsewhere in Richmond. more

If you like noise 7/13/2009

We have had many pleasant dining experiences since moving to Richmond. My wife and I were great fans of the Acacia at the previous location. We had waited several months prior to trying your new location with expectations that it would be an improvement over the previous location. What a disappointment! The noise level in the restaurant was such that it was almost impossible for wife and I to converse all though we were only 3 feet apart. Our table was unfortunately placed next to a loud group that contained a woman with a donkey bray laugh and another with a shrieking laugh - but I guess some people are just loud and inconsiderate and become more that way the more they drink. I had hoped that the entrees would be a redeeming feature - unfortunately such was not the case. My crab cake entree had the consistency and taste of the grits that were served as a side -always thought crab cakes were solid not semi liquid. I guess I could have had the server move us to another table and I could have sent the entre back. But I like to see restaurants do their best without any intervention from the guest. Your best fell very short of the mark. The only redeeming feature of the evening was the attentive server. Her prompt service allowed us to depart the noisy environment as rapidly as possible. Pros: Service staff Cons: noise, location, cuisine more

Great food, awful waitor 5/14/2007

Beautiful setting! The place is strikingly eye pleasing. I went with my boyfriend for a romantic evening. The food was unexplainably delicious. However, or waitor, Becky was very unprofessional. She was polite, but didn't remember what wine we ordered, and did not even display the bottle. She left are drinks unfilled, but Brad came along and helped her out. I reccommend asking for him when going and order anything it is all delicious! Pros: Food, atomosphere Cons: service more

The perfect place 11/29/2005

Superb food with generally good service 10/8/2003

We came with high expectations which were mostly confirmed with notable exceptions. The food was exquisite. Succulent, home-made gnoccis, finger-licking scallops on a bed of sweet potatoes, and thick and delicately cooked, delicious grouper on the tastiest mashed potatoes I've ever tasted. The downside came in the service: The wait staff had no knowledge of Dubonnet, and the bar didn't have two of our aperitif call drinks. To top it off, when we wanted a waiter, we had to go and tackle one down even though there were only three full tables in the entire restaurant. Would have been a memorable evening if the service had matched the quality of the food. Pros: Exquisite food, Beautiful ambiance Cons: service more

outstanding 6/8/2002

The co-owners of Acacia have done it again, Chef Dale Reitzer, (with Chef Bill Foster in charge), wife Aline Reitzer (who decorated Paysanne) and Jim O'Toole ( who manages it) have replaced the Frog & Redneck with a exceptionally fine restaurant with a varied and skillfully prepared menu that lives up to the excellence established by Acacia. Serving both lunch and dinner it opens up a new source of imaginative dining. The selecction is both varied and tasty with outstanding visual presentation and service. It is worthy of your patronage. Pros: food preparation, reasonable prices, excellent service Cons: need more menu select, more daily specials more

acacia is all about small touches 5/27/2002

I had a exceptional dinner at acacia this past week and I wanted to offer due credit, i was surprised to read these past reviews. I was entertaining a client and with acacia's reputation and my past experiences knew this was the place. Acacia is all about small touches, from the lanterns up the stairs to the staff welcoming you at the door to individual press pots of coffee. We had great service, very professional. Our server helped us select an off the beaten track bottle of wine. Since their menu changes daily, the chef had just picked up softshells from his fisherman, I had to have them, they were the best i had ever had. My client had the famous beet salad and raved about his blk seabass. As expected I was very pleased w/our dining experience and can't wait for my next visit. more
