Just a warning- this place is closed. Number disconnected and parking lot in shambles as of 04/26/2008. Not sure when the previous reviewer was last there- really disappointed to find it closed after such glowing reviews. more

Fantastic little Gem! 4/3/2008

My wife and I have eaten at Abrio 4 times now and as well had them partially cater or Thanksgiving meal and I must say each and every time has been a delightful evening. There menu is always unigue offering great entrees in which is changed per the season to assure the best, freshest meats/seafood possible. The atmosphere is realaxing, somewhat romantic and the service has always been top knotch. I highly recommend Abrio and feel my wife and I have found a nice little gem hidden outside the city of Pittsburgh. One of our favorite places to dine on our date nights :}. Pros: Great menu...fantastic food Cons: not for us as we live closer but is sort far from downtown..yet worth the drive out more

Wonderful, quaint restaurant 12/14/2007

I was lucky enough to have a business lunch at Abrio's. They usually only open for dinner. The food was outstanding. Coming from NYC, I didn't know what to expect from a restaurant in this little town. I was so impressed. The service was amazing. The decor was festive. We sat right next to the fireplace. My salad and pasta were delicious. My clients were pleased with the food. The hamburgers were huge. Food is reasonably priced. Pros: Food, price, parking, service, ambience Cons: Open for lunch during the holiday season only more

Disappointment 9/5/2007

I was very excited to give this restuarant a try. I waited for a special occasion because the menu looked so captivating. The service was good, and the setting was nice, but the food was incredibly bland, and tough (and the music was slightly annoying). I got the scallops, which were recommended to me by the waitress, and I have to say they were probably the most disappointing scallops I have ever had. I will say that the corn fritters they were served on were very good. My girlfriend got a seafood dish, with lobster, muscles, shrimp, and scallops. The lobster was incredibly tough and after finally getting it out of the shell, it was a workout to chew. She didn't even want to eat it after one bite. I tried a bit of her scallops and muscles, and I felt like I was eating sinew. We stuck around for dessert, and the Just the Crust Pie (their specialty) was unique and tasty. Maybe I just caught them on a bad night, and I love everything the menu offers, but I wouldn't reccomend it. I regret not complaining to the chef, and I am still thinking about giving him a call. more

Finally a great restaurant in the south hills! 4/7/2007

Our experience at Abrio restaurant in Peters was amazing. The plate was pure art! And the food was with out a doubt the best food the wife and i have eaten in Pa. We started our night with an appetizer of Grilled cheese. Delicious!! I had a stone roasted prime dry aged strip steak. It was the most flavorfull piece of meat ive ever eaten. Absolutly incredible!! The wife ate wild striped bass cooked in a Tagine. Beautiful presentation! She absolutly loved it and is already talking about going back to eat it again in the next few weeks or so. I too tried it and it was fantastic. And she will get no arguments from me about going back! more

PIttsburgh's answer to The French Laundry 4/6/2007

Very few restaurants and chefs have the vision to create the masterpieces that come out of the Abrio kitchen. I've eaten here at least a dozen times and have never had anything short of spectacular. A recent ""must have"" is the Japanese Kobe beef. I've eaten up and down the east coast and read a lot about restaurants/chefs/menus, and I can tell you that Japanese Kobe is a rare commodity, most restaurants that offer Kobe beef use American Kobe. Most chefs won't bring in Japanese Kobe because of cost, and based on what Abrio charges for it I'm sure they aren't making any money on it. It?s rare to find a restaurant that is willing to take a chance and sacrifice their bottom line in order to offer something unique. If you've never had Kobe beef from Japan you need to get to Abrio and try it, it's amazing! Pros: Food, service, location Cons: Bar atmospere (but I hear a renovation is coming in the near future) more

Finally, real cuisine in the South Hills! 3/25/2007

We've been to Abrio several times, once or twice without a reservation, and have always been treated in a warm and friendly manner. Still, I would recommend a reservation, as the place is not large and every dish is prepared from scratch. Yes, the atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, as the building has its limitations. It's obvious the owners put their resources into the food over the decor, and that's okay with us. Pros: Fantastic food, unique changing menu, friendly staff Cons: A little dark and cave-like more

Great Food! Save room for the BEST Desserts Ever! 2/23/2007

Abrio's takes food to a new level. If your looking for some great food, that is different from the same old, same old, its a must. I have gone places that tried to creat different entrees just to be different, and I wasn't impressed. Everything I have ever tried a Abrio's was impressive. The owner/chef infuses flavors together that make an impressive entrees. Everything is plated beautifuly. Last but not least, Bridget also the owner makes the Best deserts. I Love the Creme' Burlee' and my wife Loves ""The Just Pie Crust."" To Die For! Pros: Great Food! / The Best Creme' Burlee' and Just Pie Crust! more

Fancy Food - Lame Interior - Reservations Only? 11/15/2006

We arrived on a Saturday night and the parking lot was three-quarters empty. We were greeted by a hostess who asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, she seemed miffed, yet the place was less than half full inside, and it never got much fuller. She announced that they usually require a reservation ""two days in advance"". She then wispered to some smallish-guy hovering near the entrance that we didn't have a reservation, who in turn wispered the same thing to a woman. They looked at us disapprovingly, yet grudgingly seated us anyway. I live less than a mile from this place, and I rarely see the parking lot very crowded, so I'm not sure why they harp on reservations to make guests feel unwelcomed. Pros: Food quality and presentation Cons: Cave-like interior, reservation-crazed more

A Secret No More 2/16/2006

Fresh, regional cuisine with a delightful menu offering abundant choices. Chef/Owner Anthony Zallo creates magic that pleases the palate and the eye. An unpretentious yet initmate and warm ambiance that offers customers the finest culinary experience in a relaxed environment. A full scale bar compliments the menu and offers terrific wine and exceptional martini lists. Outstanding, attentive and knowledgable service staff attend to every need. A visit to Abrio is a memorable dining experience and sure to make a ""favorites"" list. Pros: outstanding menu, priced right, attention to culinary Cons: bar lacks warmth, not well-marked more

Great food, great atmosphere 5/22/2005

Located in the old Candle Keller, we were pleasantly surprised when one of our favorite restaurants was replaced with Abrio's. The service is great. Food is wonderful and delicious. Owners are friendly...we love it! Pros: Cozy, Delicious, Comfortable more

Best food in the city! 5/21/2005

Chef Anthony is a &*%$^* genius. Every dish is incredible, in presentation, quality and flavor. One of the few places in the area where I've found all-natural and free range meats and poultry. Nice wine list. Desserts are phenomenal, too, and homemade! Just Crust pie is their house specialty - it's Just Perfect served warm with ice cream. Mmmmm I can't wait to go back! Pros: small, quaint, incredible menu, best food I ever had Cons: low ceilings, a little dark more
