Hairstylist not qualified! 4/19/2012

I had been a loyal customer of this salon for six years, since I leave far I had a hair cut trim every six months. Two days ago I saw Vicky again, showed her a picture of Nelly Furtado's long hair and thick bangs hairstyle. My hair has always been long almos to my waist and she always insisted on cutting my hair short. I asked if she needed to see the picture one more time before she started cutting, and she said she didn't need to. She chopped my hair to my shoulders without permission, my bangs are uneven and horribly cut. I am so depressed and don't want to go out. I was in shock when I saw my hair. She said '' hair grows back"" My advise do NOT go to her. more

Appalled by this salon's ""service"" 10/20/2011

Yesterday I got off work and called the receptionist to schedule an appointment for waxing. I darted from work to Pikesville because I have entrusted this salon for years to take care of me well, despite commuting in rush hour traffic to get there. I arrive at my appointment at 5:30 and am told to proceed upstairs (as I arrived earlier than my appointment time of 5:45). I go upstairs, and the receptionist lady who is typically at the desk in the midlevel between the up and downstairs is not there. I sit and wait and wait and wait for about 25-30 minutes before wondering when I will be taken in for my appointment. I go back downstairs to see what is going on with my service that is scheduled with Julia. An elder blonde lady receptionist tells me, ""oh Julia... (And then a look of stifled horror crosses her face) as she tells me that Julia has ""left"" for the day and that she can't believe that Julia left when she had a client (meaning, she probably didn't even realize she had a client due to the lack of communication apparently going on with this staff). At this point, I am SEETHING as this is the second time I have had to wait 20-30 minutes for an appointment when I have arrived ON TIME, only THIS time, the esthetician has apparently LEFT the building. Receptionist lady tries to smooth things over as she realizes I am not happy, I am actually furious, as she remarks, ""how about coming in tomorrow?"" as if that will make anything better. I tell her, ""I work at 8AM and can't be here"" (aka. can't afford to drive around and play around like the clowns that run your business). She gives me a tight-lipped smile (while the other 2 receptionists gawk at me) and says, ""how about saturday?"" At this point this is infuriating me because the staff clearly does not know how to apologize and guess what, a ""Sorry"" does not cut it in this situation. It is their fault, plain and simple, and I cannot believe that the employees can treat their customers this way. I have frequented this particular About Faces for years and also have noted a decline in the quality of service and the efficiency of service. The estheticians and other people who work in this salon do so without much haste or urgency or consideration of other people's time. When you have an appointment, you should keep it - especially if you want to keep your loyal customers who pay and even TIP you well. I am absolutely disgusted by this salon and refuse to go back. I will maybe visit a different location, but not pikesville. more

OVERPRICED ""HI-END"" SALON with LOW-END SERVICE & QUALITY 12/23/2010

If I could have, I would have given -0- stars. I [used to] go here regularly and have seen a steep gradual decline in service and in quality over the last 2 years. Yesterday was my last visit. For the price, I expect to be the focus of my hairdresser's world for 2 hrs. Unfortunately, hairdressers are all servicing 2-3 clients at a time, and after 50 mins. of highlights, I was left to dry and style my own hair. This is the 2nd time in 6 months that this has happened. The best service I received was from the Shampoo girl, who did a great job. Unfortunately, that was 5 mins. of my 2.5 hr. appointment. As I was paying my bill and leaving a tip, not one of the 3 ladies (doing nothing) behind the counter said ""thank you"", ""come again"", ""Happy Holidays"" ...nothing. It was the WORST SERVICE I have ever experienced in any service industry. I have concluded that for a HIGH-END SALON, they have LOW CLASS SERVICE and as I look at my hairdo this morning, I'm thinking I could do better at the Wal-Mart salon... more

Stylists are not all equally qualified 7/13/2010

My hair color was completely ruined by a stylist here (Vicki, I believe her name was). I had to walk around with orange streaks in my hair until I could get it fixed a week later. That was the second poor experience I had with hair color in this salon. On a previous visit (with Racquel), I had to go out and buy my own toner to tone down the brassiness from the bad highlights. I will say, I do like the new stylist I've been visiting there, so they are not all terrible. Just be careful if you do go here, you never know what you're going to get! I should also mention, I did complain after my second bad color experience at this salon. The manager was receptive to my complaint and I did not have to pay for the terrible highlights. Pros: some stylists are competent, manager was responsive Cons: many stylists are incompetent more

A Busy Woman's Oasis 11/28/2005

Working full time and raising children leaves little time to take care of myself without spending a lot of time and money. About Faces allows me to pick and choose a variety of services that fit into my schedule without breaking the bank! Over the years I found that treating myself to a little luxury rejuvenates me and best of all gives me a confidence boost! I'm greatful for the staff who loves to pamper and offer suggestions for me to take home to stay beautiful until my next visit. Thanks About Faces! more
