We used AJ's Landscaping for the past three house projects .\r \r The design and upfront sales efforts are done very well and they came up with a great design for our front and back yards. Very nice combination of Hardscape and plants. Some people want the new landscape filled from day one, but I recommend you plant less and let them grow into the beds.\r \r AJ's also installed our water sprinkler system and they did a very good job and we are very happy with it. Very few problems with the system.\r \r Most of the people were very friendly and addressed our issues well. Just remember that weather can change your schedule when dealing with landscaping installations.\r \r Overall we are very happy with our front and back yard designs and water system. But as with any home project you should stay heavily involved and monitor the work being done so that you can assist the design team early if something needs to be changed or adjusted. more

I highly recommend AJ’s Landscaping and Design. I have been a customer for more than 25 years. The service is outstanding and the personnel is very accommodating. In my opinion, they are the best landscaping company in Houston and possibly in the entire state of Texas. The personal attention you get whether your job is small or large is unsurpassable. I have been working with a landscape architect at AJ's for almost 6 years by the name of Jared Meinkowsky. I have never met a more genuine, professional, and talented individual in my life. He and his team at AJ's transformed our yard into a truly beautiful outdoor space and sing him praises everyday. I highly recommend his design talents and all of AJ's for there follow through from start to finish. Very happy and satisfied. more

Delighted:\r \r We are absolutely delighted from start to finish with the results of our project by A.J.’s Landscaping. Coordination with A.J.’s group was efficient and pleasant. \r \r Damon designed a gorgeous variety of plants that complemented each other. He took in consideration the view from both outside and inside the house. My request for something whimsical resulted in two urns that were the Piece de Résistance. My advice is to let the designer “do his thing” and to use A.J.’s irrigation service to install or adjust the sprinkler system. They did a bang-up job of making sure the irrigation system worked with the new landscape.\r \r Jerome, landscape manager, answered all of my questions and was enthusiastic about the project. The crew knew exactly what to do for the end result.\r \r Reading others’ reviews; there are always hitches in any project. So.....I just went into my beautiful backyard to place some pumpkins for the season and I thought....WOW, how amazing is this yard.....I think I should share with others how beautiful it is and how proud I am that is is all mine!!! Let me start by saying....I didnt spend $150K on my yard BUT I did save for months in order to use AJ's Landscaping, and the money that I did spend was BEYOND WORTH IT!!! I could not image a more beautiful space nor could I imagine more talent in designing it!!! I have to admit, once logging on, I was a bit taken back by the negative comments place here but quickly remember, you simply cannot make EVERYONE HAPPY! If we could all achieve a beautiful backyard design on our own, why in the world would we even have to reach out to someone like AJ? I have a simple answer.....WE CANT!!!! If this process was all that easy and simple.....we would all be going to HOUSTON GARDEN CENTER (NO OFFENSE TO THEM) and planting our own plants in some sort of configuration......blah!!! I have to admire AJ, his staff (Keith, thank you for all your hard work and for dealing with my Husband and I throughout the entire process when we didnt know what in the heck we wanted), and his crews and foreman who have to, day in and day out, deal with crazies such as us!! I own a business myself and realize what an effort it takes to be truly gifted at what do you do (AJ, I am speaking to you) and balance all the people who expect too much, too soon! A beautiful, well designed, functional, outdoor living space takes talent, time, and tenacity that is found through using AJ's Landscaping & Design...... I mean REALLY???? Great Job to AJ and all his staff!!!!!!! Hopefully I will save quicky in order to do my River House soon!!! Cant wait!!!! more

Terrible customer service. Terrible job planting the trees, shrubs and plants. Zero followup....including replacing the tree that died under warranty. I cant say enough to warn you about this company. VERY DISSAPPOINTING. more

It took over three months from the time we first met with AJ's to the time we finally had our project completed. We had to follow up with them multiple times to try to get a bid and proposal. We begged them to pay attention to us and had very little follow up from them. No returned calls, no answers to e-mails. I have to say the end product turned out beautiful, but I wouldn't use them again. We want to do business with people that appreciate the dollar we are spending and treat us with respect. Now we have received a bill stating we haven't paid them. I'm looking at our credit card statement that shows the 50% down payment was processed several weeks before the work began. And I am also looking at my cancelled check for the balance. They say they are ""researching"" it....based on their track record I'm not counting on too much from the research department. It is a shame, everyone tells us how beautiful our yard turned out...but we can't recommend them. more

AJ's overpriced take the money and run approach is not anywhere close to the high quality, customer focused approach they advertise. I chose AJ's over Moss because I was impressed with the timely customer focused sales approach. Sales team is very flexible and worked with me to get the right bid and project layed out. However, that's where the high level of customer service and quality workmanship ended. After a week or so I asked that the irrigation team come back out to make sure the sod and beds were being hit properly and they came out but didn't fix the problem. Therefore, I sent an additional email with a couple clean up items (plants growing back, vines within the azealeas were not removed the first time, irrigation still not correct) that I feel should be addressed, including a request for the irrigation team to come back out to address my sprinkler system. I even took pictures and sent one of a few spots in both my beds and the new sod they laid that are not being covered so it could be addressed if I wasn't home....still no reply from AJ's. I feel as though I've given them every chance to make this right. I really wish I would have read the Citysearch reviews prior to hiring them. My experience with is that AJ's Landscaping has failed to supply the material called out for in the contract To date they have not responded to demands to finish the work. I asked for Acid Washed Concrete option to give it a French County Courtyard look, because of a mistake on estimation it was changed. The contract clearly states one thing, I got quite the other. The Travertine tile installed, is dangerous, To date, two children, one of my own and my Nephew have fallen on the tile when swimming. The equipment was misplaced and the back gate would not open, I asked that the equipment be moved and the slab was simply busted off and looks bad.My lighting in the back yard was to be 2 up-lights and five down-lights. The wiring is exposed and looks shabby and is not up to code. The back patio columns were badly finished in a gray that does not match any agreements or pictures. The material was not finished or weather proofed and the cheap grade plywood shows through the stain is weathering badly. The back cedar fence need to have a selfclosing, locking mechanism installed with an alarm, I got a string with a nut.... The landscaping and plant material did NOT match My proposal #20994, the proposal attached was #21280 . The plants were installed on top of the irrigation sprinkler system. The irrigation system does not properly water all areas of plants and grass , and some are dying off. The contracted agreement of 2- 6X6 brass drains on the deck, there is only one. The drainage on the deck has a low spot in front of the one brass drain that hold water. The 5 9X9 drains turned out to be three. Most plants were substituted for others and on and on..... more

We hired AJs to refresh our yard and the design and pre-sales service was great. From then on things went rapidly downhill. Plants and Trees died, services were scheduled in the wrong order and contractors never showed plus we were lied to at every step. Avoid this company at all costs!!! I just paid $900 to a contractor to fix the patio AJ installed. They may be OK at planting shrubs, but hire a real contractor for anything more substantial. Cons: Poor quality, Poor Service more

I’ll never use AJ’s again. They installed a patio using slate which has been flaking and deteriorating. When I pointed out the problem, I was told slate is not good for the outdoors, but if they re-sealed it, the problem would be abated. It didn’t work. It took 4 weeks to get them to examine the problem. After hearing a numerous excuses they final claimed the slate if fine: It is the rain that is the problem. They did not think an outdoor patio would be subject to rain??? Cons: Inferior product and unresponsive service more

We have been using AJ's landscaping and design for about 16 years and have been extremely pleased with the design and maintenance of our yard. Their professional maintenance crew is very attentive to the details of our yard, they always come on a regular day of the week, and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure our yard looks great. They will occasionally throw in a service at no charge as a suprise, which really makes us happy. Their prices are competitive with other companies, but they offer so much more personal attention than others and a higher quality of work. We have recieved numerous compliments from friends and neighbors, and have even recieved notes in our mailbox asking who does our yard. I highly recommend AJ's. more

I was very pleased with the project from start to finish. I met with the owner of the company and one of his designers. Right away I new the guys were very talented and had a lot of creative solutions to my small backyard. My wife and I were wanting a pool/spa, outdoor kitchen, landscaping, lighting, and so on. On top of the huge wish list, we had major drainage issues. We agreed to a retainer to get going on a master plan. Within two weeks we met to review the desgin. My wife and I fell in love with the design. We did not have the funds to do the entire project right away. They worked with us and our budget. We started with the front/back landscape, outdoor kitchen, lighting, and outdoor kitchen. All the crew and foremen did a great job and were very helpful along the way. We plan to have the rest of the work done next year. We loved the entire staff, and can't wait to get started with the rest. We would highly recommend this company to anyone. I purchasesd a complete backyard design and a wall around my pool. I thought they were pricey but I liked the design and thought they had a good reputation. I have been very disappointed. They were very difficult to deal with after the sale. Aj recommended we get a monthly service to care for the trees and plants at least for a year to establish the plants. He said it would be about $250 per month, expensive but we agreed because the backyard was over $25,000. They sent out a guy to give us a price for service he also priced it at about $250. We were about to start and a supervisor called back and said it would be $550 a month for service. No way were we going to spend that to care for beds and fertilize the beds.. Well service really went south after that. They pulled some dead plants 4 months ago and we still have not had them replaced. Whenever we call it is going to happen that week. We have a tree planted that is almost dead or very sickly. We had a terrible experience and could not recommend them. Aj is very convincing but his staff is terrible.
