On 12/02/2010 I called AAA Auger; they responded promptly. I needed my kitchen drain snaked out; which they did - cost $160. While he was snaking, I left the kitchen for a moment and heard, "Oh no, we have problems, ROOTS!" As I walked back into the kitchen the plumber was holding a wad of tiny roots. I questioned how they might have gotten in there and as he explained, he also stated, " . . . it's not like I would put them in there . . . ". I found that to be a strange thing to say. I was told that the next step would be to put in a camera to identify where the problem was - cost $200 - and if the problem was under my foundation it could cost as much as 10 to 20 THOUSAND dollars to fix. I was floored. The drain was draining better when he left and then it stopped again. I called them back out; he re-snaked and it drained better - cost $45. Two days later my sink was backed up again. I called AAA Auger back and they stated that there was no warranty for the work they had already done and that "I knew I had other problems". I confided in my friend who got me in touch with a retired plumber who instructed me how to and convinced me that I should give it a shot - AND - check for roots as I attempted to fix it myself. I rented an auger from Lowes - cost $35. As I snaked out my drain I did 'feel' resistance and worked the snake back and fourth until the resistance was gone. I had my friend outside at the clean-out. He was holding a small garden tool which allowed him to catch anything that might come loose. AT LAST - a huge amount of white crap, thought to be soap buildup from my washing machine/P-trap (per the retired plumber) was caught by my friend. My point - NO ROOTS.
My drain is working wonderfully now.
I WILL NEVER USE AAA AUGER AGAIN and recommend that you find an honest plumber (if there is such a thing) - not AAA Auger.
I'm an honest man and it upsets me to think that a plumber brought roots with him and would have continued to milk me for thousands of dollars - you be the judge.
