surprised 4/24/2007

For being a wharf restaurant I was pleasantly surprised. For one, it's huge so getting in is easy last minute if you're in teh area. The menu is pretty good and our waiter was great. There were 3 of us, we all had different entree's, 2 fish and 1 pasta dish we were all happy with our meals. I don't think this is one of the best restaurants in SF and probably wont' return, BUT if you're down by the wharf surrounded by the zillion tourist traps this is definitely a good place to get above that, enjoy a wonderful view, nice atmosphere and tasty food. Pros: group dining, service, atmosphere Cons: by the wharf more

Fresh seafood, great view, too loud for fine dining 2/15/2007

Had dinner at A. Sabella's for Valentine's Day. We started off with ceasar salad, which was ok, and the mixed chilled shelffish for appetizer. Felt they were stingy with. For $16, it included 1 prawn, 1 scallop, 2 manila clams, 4 tiny mussels. My bf had the filet mignon with mesquite grilled 1 lb lobster ($49). The combination of the 2 was exquisite. I had the seafood risotto ($29), which was also great. It was filled with more seafood than the risotto itself. You can really taste the freshness in their seafood. Then, we shared the trio sorbet for desert ($8.75). A glass of wine will run you about $20/glass, great wine selection by the way. The view is great only if it's a clear day/night. For a fancy dinner restaurant, felt it was too noisy, and not too intimate.. maybe because it was Valentine's. Their service was great, and efficient. We were in and out in 1hr 15min. This restaurant, I would try if you are in the area. It's not something you go out of your way for. Pros: Fresh seafood, Great view Cons: Ambience too loud more

GREAT PLACE AND SERVICE 8/21/2006

The food is great, so fresh, I had the mix grill which was outstanding and my friend had the sea bass, which she said was the best she has ever tasted. After reading a few of the reviews on City Search, we asked for Christopher to be our food server and we were so happy we did. The service was some of the best I've ever experienced, We highly recommended you ask to have him be your server! more

Some of the best food I had in San Fran 7/30/2006

A. Sabellas is certainly not the place to go if you are on a budget. It is somewhat pricey for the amount of food. That being said, if you have money to spend and are looking for great tasting food, A. Sabellas is a great place to go. I had the Filet and Lobster plate at $46 dollars it was quite expensive but the fliet was tender and flavorful and the lobster was some of the sweetest I had ever experienced. My husband had the seafood ciopino which was $27 (quite pricey for soup) but he said it had wonderful flavor as well. The servers were very attentive and knowledgable regarding the menu. Pros: wonderful food and service Cons: somewhat expensive, no convenient parking more

INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCIE 7/16/2006

Every aspect of our meal was perfect. The food was delicioous. As recommed by a previous reviewer we requested Christopher to be our server and we highly recommed you do the same when you make your reservation. We were impressed, his service was professional, attentive (without being intrusive) very knowledgable, friendly, efficient and grarcious. Over-all I highly recommed A. Sabella's Pros: SERVICE, food, view more

NOT WORTH IT 5/15/2006

It definitely did not live up to the reviews. We took our mom there for mothers day the service did live up to its reviews but the food and everything else fell extremely short. I understand that its located in a touristy area but it was way way overpriced especially for the portions of food. Definitely better options on the Wharf....Extremely disappointing!!!! Pros: Service, View Cons: Food, Cost more

EXCELLENT SERVICE 2/3/2006

The Food was excellent. To our delight we ask for Christopher to be our server as recommened by a previous reviewer, he was so knowlegable, professional and very friendly, we recommend you ask for him to be your server also, it will make your dining experience complete. Pros: Service, Food more

Great for 1st date! 4/28/2005

The view is great. Great service. Very tasty Dungee crabs, clam chowder. Pros: view, food, service Cons: regular deco more

romantic atmosphere, overpriced food 1/12/2005

I have to admit the atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, romantic, candelit dinner etc. However, the food was overpriced, as I'm sure most fisherman's wharf restaurants are. I had the mixed seafood grill and boyfriend had the crab cioppino. Both dishes were around $26,both neither filled our tummies. Crab cake was good and desert was heavenly. Definitely try the chocolate profiteroles..tiramisu only okay. Overall.. pleasant, service wasn't as extraordinary as previously mentioned...but will probably go elsewhere for good seafood at a better price. Pros: romantic, nice windowseating, deserts!! more

loved it 11/9/2004

the food was very good and priced reasonably, the staff was polite and professional. Can be difficult to get a window seat but have found most tables have an excellent view Pros: romantic, sunset, service more

EXCELLENT SERVICE 10/25/2004

I have dined at A. Sabella's many times and the food is always great. But what made this time different was the service. The sever that waited on us this time was Christopher, the service was professional, genuine, knowlegable, helpful and friendly. His knowlege of the wine list is outstanding, he is very helpful with great wine selections. I recommend you ask for him to be your server. He made our dining experience all-around first rate. Pros: SERVICE, FOOD, VIEW more

Confindent Service 9/28/2004

I always appreciate a server with experience and preferences with menu and wine questions. We had excellent service in a relaxed dinner setting. Perfect place for the romantic meal or special occasion. Seafood was prepared perfectly! Pros: relaxed environment, good service more

Great Steak and Seafood 7/22/2004

I had heard that A.Sabella's added steaks and chops to their menu. We took friends last weekend and had a Prime 22oz Porterhouse steak that was to die for. It was expensive but we all shared the steak, garlic-roasted Dungeness crab, Maine Lobster, and a Salmon. With Ceasar salad and their dazzling desserts it's a pretty classy SF dinner. Then you factor in seeing the sun go down over the Golden Gate Bridge. This is my place to wow my out-of-town guests. Parking is so easy at the Wharf at night too. Pros: established, very San Francisco, professional more

The best dinner I ever had. 6/11/2004

I think many people have diferent expectations about diferent restaurants A. Sabellas was able to fullfill those expectations from begining to end they saved my date, it was my 8th wedding aniversary and I had many requests I wanted a nice table with a view I wanted my wife and I to have a memorable experience and I have to say it the service was expectacular as well as the food, view and that crab they have does not get any better Cheff really knows how to cook crab, the ambiance was stoning. Pros: good view, good parking, not crowded Cons: , red wines to expensiv more

A Wonderful Evening 8/26/2002

We did not know what to expect of a restaurant right off of the wharf. Would it be crowded, lacking in service, would the food be bearable? To our delight, we found that it was everything we weren't expecting. The atmosphere was very nice. Enough room in between tables for it to be private. Lighting was very romantic. The view is very nice in the evening. Even though every table was full, we felt like we were the only ones there. The service was excellent. We never had to look for our waiter. It was as if they could read our minds, and served exactly what was needed, when it was needed...never overbearing or intrusive. The food was delicious! There was a good variety of dishes to choose from and the servings were plentiful. What a wonderful treat! I look forward to returning again! Pros: Friendly Staff, Romantic, Good Sized Meals more

EXCELLENT - IN ALL RESPECTS !!! 7/9/2002

Besides a magnificent view, the service here is excellent, the quality of preparation of food was extremely high, and the desserts are to die for! In all regards, this is an excellent restaurant -- I would certainly put this high on my places to eat when in San Francisco. Pros: High Quality Food, Excellent Wine Choice, Very Clean Cons: Expensive... more
