I'm still drooling over my martini 1/16/2008

2 of my girlfriends and I went to 820 last week (on a Thursday night around 5:30) after one of them recommended it. They had luckily found a spot for us to sit because it was packed. I had looked on their website before arriving so I already knew what to order. I ordered the ""Freestyle"" and it did not disappoint. We all sipped each other's drinks and my friends liked it so much they ordered one too. The funny thing was it is not on their drink menu in-house! They still made it (and our server said it was her favorite) so I was happy and it made it feel all that more special. I also got the Guava Cosmo and finished off with the Sweet Love. I liked them best in the order they arrived. We also got a few bites - the appetizer platter (yum), the lamb burger (you gotta like it spicy) & sweet potato fries (better than I expected) and my friend liked her hummus a lot. I probably won't order the lamb burger again but I'd get all the other food and certainly more Freestyles. Our server was very attentive as well and there was no loud music and humm of people was not too loud with so many bodies in a small space, so we could hear each other talk which was nice for a change. Overall it was a great experience. We will be back soon. Pros: Great martini choices, service Cons: Too small more

Great burgers, good drinks and questionnable management 1/11/2008

Bummed out. I've hosted my monthly networking event, pdxMindShare, at various Portland-area venues since 2000. I was excited to bring the event to the East side and enjoy a good burger and drink. For the past few months, everything seemed to go as planned. Unfortunately, I received an email from the manager a week or so prior to the upcoming event notifying me they no longer wanted my business. No phone call, no explanation and nothing more than a few days notice. I'm no longer able to patronize Mint/820 after the poor service (and judgment I experience by management). Pros: food & drink Cons: management and parking more

A favorite 11/12/2007

A great place to hang out after work for a casual yet sophisticated atmosphere. Amazing house drinks and the happy hour is the best in town! Pros: Ambience, Speciality drinks more

Just so-so 4/23/2007

Heard it was a great place for Martini's. Not sure why because they were just so-so. The place could use a little updating in decor, sort of dismal surroundings. Pros: NON SMOKING BAR-FINALLY !!!! Cons: Not much to write home about more

Best Service in Town! 3/30/2007

The bartender at 820, Jason, was the best bartender we've had in town. All the seats at the bar were taken and people were standing; it was busy. The drinks were delicious as usual, but more astonishing was his uncanny ability to keep everyone with a fresh drink and still have time to be social and conversational. He knew many of the patrons by name and made everyone feel welcome and wanted. I have experienced such poor service at so many other bars and restaurants that I was blown away! We'll be back many times and I'll tell everyone I know! Pros: Everything! Gorgeous atmosphere, delicious drinks, stellar service! Cons: Busy, but it's worth any wait you may experience! more

Awsome Sweet Potato Fries! 10/30/2006

The drinks and food are great. This place is wonderful if you want to get together with a few friends. You have the great sweet potato fries and many drinks to choose from! Pros: great drinks, great food, great service more

pineapple drop - yummmmmmmmmmm! 5/16/2006

love the drinks, love the patio, can't beat the happy hour! more

wonderful happy hour 4/15/2005

I love to come here for happy hour, which they also have on the weekends. Lovers of girly drinks will oooh and aaah over the Bella, the Velvet, and similar raspberry and blackberry flavored concoctions. At the same time they do the classics well too. Food is yummy; try the Cuban lamb burger with sweet potato fries. We were practically licking the chipotle mayo out of the ramekin. Pros: yummy food, great drinks, great HH Cons: gets crowded, dodgy neighborhood more

Best lamb burgers in town! 3/16/2005

Cool but could use a little more 12/3/2004

Very hip place with creative cocktails. Slightly stuck up atmosphere. Good food and great happy hour. Needs a little more interested and approachable atmosphere. Drinks are good but made with cheap liqours. Ask for the good stuff and you will be better off! Pros: unique drinks, great happy hour, good food Cons: , bad liqour in drinks more

Disappointed 9/22/2004

New in town. Managed a few hot spots in my time. Seated a long time, order my fav bottle of French Champ. Loong time later, hot glasses arrive-reply: ""just the stems are hot!"" Tastes old/flat.Laugh it off- order the clam cevich'; the blandest ever? Laugh. Order a platter. The chirizo can be bought at any 7-11. Ah, focus on the famous exotic drinks. All w/sugar. Don't want that.Ask for the bartender to make something special. She points to something. It arrives w/an inch of sugar on the rim. Reply: ""Oh-it's just on the rim!"" Laugh. ""You silly goose, just get a margarita!?"" Did she just call me that?I'm twice her age(37)-R U kidding? If I just wanted a marg-I'd gone to a cantina. Left a 20% tip-and will never be back. Lesson: Try and not judge anyone-U never know who they R. Cons: , tasteless food, bad wine more

Great drinks! 6/8/2004

I went to 820 because a friend recently got a job there. The drinks were FANTASTIC and I will definitely be back. I had the Bella and Lucy's Sidecar (I loved both), but there were many more I would have liked to try. I didn't have any food, but what I saw coming out of the kitchen looked very good. If you want great drinks, this is the place to go! Pros: Bella, Lucy's Sidecar, Many drink choices more

maybe the beautiful people are over it 11/8/2003

went in a coupla weeks ago; both sides pretty empty; sat for 15 minutes with a glass of water waiting for someone (anyone from a staff who was merely standing around) to take my order; got tired of waiting and left; by the looks of the empty bar/restaurant the ""beautiful people"" got tired of waiting, too...why does ""hip"" often translate into total lack of hospitality?; slacking isn't very trendy. Pros: off the beaten track, ok decor, easy parking Cons: aloof staff, too done more

Trendy Spot 8/18/2003

Took a date here after dinner. It's a good place for atmosphere but the drinks could have been better. Great to go in warm weather bc there's a patio outside, the ambiance was really cool and overall I really liked it, but some of the drinks weren't spectacular and when we ordered a Greyhound I couldn't taste a drop of alcohol. The crowd was good - busy but not packed in, but the service was a little slow with the drinks. But if you're looking for ambiance, it's a good spot. Pros: Atmosphere, Outdoor/Couch Seating Cons: Slow Service, Weak Drinks more
