Take a break while shopping on Rodeo. 4/16/2009

This place is a great stop while shopping on Rodeo. They have a great host Fernando, super friendly. He gave us a great table for our group and even gave us directions later and took a picture of our group. Great guy and great place. Pros: Great Drinks more

We'd steal Chef Mahon to Chicago - yes, it's THAT wonderful!!! 12/29/2008

Chef Joseph Mahon is a gem. My husband and I dined at 208 on an overnight layover for our honeymoon. Couldn't decide on what to order, so I asked our waitress, Annette, to ask Chef to cook whatever he'd like. The menu itself is a grand selection of regional California mixed with Tuscan delights. Our meal was phenominal - a perfectly cooked duet tasting of lamb and the chicken spitzel with curry pasta. Bread is warm, crusty outside, tender inside. Excellent presentation - Personal attention, equisite attention to detail, fresh, well-balanced food all make 208 Rodeo a wonderful experience. Go there for dinner - AVOID the ""scene"" crowd that comes at lunchtime. The night air with a lovely bottle of wine coupled with the twinkling lights of the plaza add to the romantic flavors. Pros: Exquisite menu and execution of all dishes, reasonable wine list, perfect service. Cons: Parking garage can be hard to find - it's off Dayton Way east of Rodeo. more

Amazing new chef Joseph Mahon has completely revamped the menu. Delectable food, great service, great place! 11/17/2008

208 Rodeo recently hired Joseph Mahon to serve as its new executive chef - and he has created an amazing new dinner menu. His salmon with an artichoke emulsion is to die for, as is the kampachi tartare - and many of the other new menu items. Ignore the older negative reviews of this place - I can assure you they are inaccurate and outdated. If you have been here before, it is well-worth another, or multiple visits as it is nothing like the old 208 Rodeo. Mahon has infused the place with a tremendous amount of creativity and culinary expertise. We will definitely be back again! Yum! Pros: Food, Service, People watching, Outdoor dining in Beverly Hills, Unpretentious, Complimentary valet parking on Dayton Way off of Rodeo. Cons: Can't think of any.... more

Great Location; They tack on the serivce charge! 8/3/2008

This restaurant has a fabulous location. The food was okay. The chef did accomodate our request to make a special sauce for my pasta My husband ordered wine with his meal and was given a tiny portion (not even half a glass). I ordered cheese on the side with my pasta and it arrived with cheese ""on"" the dish. When the check arrived the tip was already put on our bill. (there were only 2 of us) Pros: Location Cons: tip automatic on bill; wine portions more

PROBABLY THE WORST CAFE IN LA AND BEVERLY HILLS, Only Good For Desserts 7/28/2008

This place served one of the worst meals that I have ever tried to eat. McDonalds is 100% better than this place. It was not listed with Citysearch for a long time and I think that really saved it from having all the bad reviews that it rightfully deserves. The only thing that is inviting about this place is the fortunate location. After a hard day of shopping it seems like a welcome place to get some lunch especially when the restaurants across the courtyard are no better, but don't be tempted. You should cross the street to the Beverly Wilshire hotel for a real restaurant meal. This joke of a cafe is only slightly less expensive. The place is almost always crowded because it is a tiny patio, and the tables are crowded so close together that you can hear every word of every dinner conversation around you. This gets more interesting as you start to hear people complaining about their horrible food. We initially only wanted dessert and the hostess brought a dessert tray and quickly recommended the vanilla dome. It was probably one of the best desserts I have ever had, which is so ironic in such a bad eatery because if the entree were half as good I would be a regular patron. I honestly think that they don't make their desserts and buy them in because they are all very complicated desserts and this tiny place doesn't seem like it has the staff or the capacity to make them. We were still hungry after the dessert so we ordered entrees. After scanning the whole menu, the only thing that seemed tolerable was the roast half chicken. After more than 35 minutes of waiting and 2 apologies from the waiter I finally got this chicken. It was topped with an inedible mess that was some kind of excuse for olive tampanade. A good portion of the skin was yellow and not roasted. The inside was bloody rare in places. It was in short inedible, and if I thought that any replacement entree would be more edible I would have sent it back immediately. Pros: Incredible desserts that are bought in, try the vanilla dome for a quick break Cons: The food is inedible, patio is very crowded, noisy, no ambiance at all more

Service, Service, Service.......and ambiance 12/7/2007

When in Beverly Hills, eat here. Anyone looking for a BH experience, this is it and you have impeccable service to boot. Touk and Kathy run an exceptionally clean and polished establishment and the eye-candy of passers-by is great, not to mention the shopping. Order the Kobe Beef burger or the Chopped Salad and you will not be let down. They also feature these cool ""Tonics"" by Elixir that only enhance their patio experience. They always seem to have a different soup everyday, no matter what it is you must at least try it, you won't be let down. Pros: Price is not reflective of typical Beverly Hills prices, the patio Cons: Only 1 location! more

Hardly phenomenal, but still fun 11/28/2007

While I would not say this place has phenomenal food as the other reviewer has proclaimed, I think it's really more about the setting. High atop the little Rodeo Drive cobblestone street right across the way from the Regency Bevery, this place offers fantastic views of all the shoppers below. We were there w/out of town guests on a Saturday afternoon and the place was mobbed--- even so, we made friends with the host and he got us a good seat right away on the outdoor patio. The service was sort of slow but friendly. Salads were good and so was the olive oil that comes with the bread. I would come back just cos it's a great spot to drop your bags & have some food in between all the shopping -- just beware that you won't have much space cos it gets so crowded. Pros: Great location Cons: Cramped quarters more

Great Service and Phenomenal Food 6/25/2007

My husband and I almost did not go to this restaurant as it was reviewed by some obiouslly disatisfied, grumpy, customers and it is Citysearch's first review on the page for 208 Rodeo. We believe the reviewers made an extremely unfair and biased review. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there tonight and found the service to be most helpful and efficient and the food, from appetizers to dessert, most delicious and wonderful. In fact, I specifically ordered the crab cakes and they not only were fresh and yummy, they were delicious and the presentation was lovely . Further, the appetizer my husband ordered, sesame gulf shrimp was even more flavorful with sweet and sour chili sauce. Our entrees, my loin of lamb and my husband's Iron Chef whitefish were fantastic. The dessert was ""to die for!"" We've had tiramisu all over Italy and their's was as good as the best anywhere! The mojito was also expertly prepared by the bartender and there were many other delightful alcoholic beverages on the menu too. All in all, it was a delightful dining experience and we hope that City Search will amend the unfair review that it lists on their first page or delete it all together! more

DO NOT GO AT ALL COSTS! 5/30/2007

We had a terrible experience. Crab cakes tasted fishy so were returned, then my husband's Kobe beef was so bad we sent that back. We didn't feel like arguing anymore so paid A LOT for very bad food. We did let our waitress know and explained that we had been there before and the food had been fine but that there was somethign wrong with the beef. She said she's have someone see us, no one did, instead we got the check. more
