Review of: North Elm Animal Hospital

We love North Elm Animal Hospital in Greensboro, located at 3626 North Elm Street, not far from the Pisgah Church Road intersection. Claudia Sims, our primary vet, is thorough and loving to our dog. We know that our pet is getting the best possible care.

The office staff is also very nice. Everyone seems to enjoy being there, which is great!

Their prices seem in line with most vet clinics around, and you can usually get an appointment in a timely manner.

Our dog does not like staying in the kennel overnight, however, so I can't really recommend that. The phone number is 336-545-3400. good luck!

    Review of: Carvel Ice Cream

The Carvel Ice Cream Shop at 2130 New Garden Road was a disappointment, to put it mildly. We went in to get ice cream for our family, and we had a coupon for a free waffle cone with the purchase of a waffle cone that we got from the "Entertainment Coupon Book". This location was listed as a participating store.

When we entered, the first thing we noticed was how filthy the store was -- the tables and floors were nasty, and had not been cleaned in quite some time. I asked for a waffle cone, as stated on the coupon, but they were out of the waffle cones. I was willing to substitute for a regular cone, although they are significantly less expensive, but the manager was unwilling to allow such a substitution and refused to honor the coupon.

I emailed the corporate office about our unpleasant and unsatisfactory experience. They emailed back that they would make the district manager aware of the situation (the cleanliness of the store) and said that the store did not have to honor the coupon if they didn't want to. I was shocked that this business clearly does not want to make the customer happy. We were not asking for a more expensive product (quite the contrary), and were willing to take a reasonable substitution. This is not a company that thinks very much of it's business -- the appearance of the store speaks volumes to their philosophy of how customers should be treated. We obviously aren't worth their effort to clean the store nor to honor their own coupons. I would give up ice cream forever if this location was the only way I could get it!

Any store can have a sorry employee, even a worthless manager, but this is clearly a company policy - they stink from the bottom up. Lucky for us, there is plenty of competition! Cold Stone and TCBY, here we come!

  • Mitchell Landscapes -- A step above

    Review of: Michell Landscapes

Mitchell Landscapes, LLC is a "comprehensive landscape design and installation" company. I was blown away by the design plans of the company's owner, Dale Mitchell. He designed and installed a brick patio -- using new brick for most of the patio, but then there was an inlaid star in the center using antique bricks. Wow! It was a detail that really set apart his work from any others that I've seen. His arrangement of plants, both in containers and in the yard was very visually pleasing. If you are in the market for a landscape overhaul, or even if you just need a little help with a particular area in your yard, contact this company! (336) 254-1661

    Review of: The Cheesecake Factory

The Cheesecake Factory at Southpoint Mall in Durham NC was very nice. We had to wait, but I think that is always the case at this restaurant, no matter what city it is in! Our server was prompt and friendly. The menu is HUGE! It is a spiral-bound book! We split the portabella mushroom sandwich and the eggplant sandwich. Both were a bit messy, but good. The portabella sandwich was my favorite! And, of course, we had cheesecake. Again, there are too many choices, it was hard to narrow it down, but we finally decided on the chocolate and raspberry truffle cheesecake. Wow! Divine! This restaurant is a bit pricey, but worth it every now and then!

  • Pricey -- and why?

    Review of: Nordstrom

The Nordstrom at Southpoint Mall in Durham is quite large and very well organized, but they are SO EXPENSIVE! I don't feel it is a good value for the money. The clothes don't seem to be any better than at other stores. Most of the staff was friendly, especially in the children's department and in the handbag department. Nordstrom is a nice store to browse through, but it is not a store for those who are budget-minded!

  • Not one of the best Gaps!

    Review of: Gap the

The Gap, Baby Gap, and Kids Gap are all attached at this Southpoint Mall location. I am not sure if they just finished a big sale, or if they were getting ready to change seasons, but I was not impressed with the choices of clothes or the selection of sizes. I only found one item in my son's size! And he is a toddler!

I was happy with the staff. They were friendly and helpful, especially in the Kids Gap and the adult Gap stores. I am not sure if it was a fluke, but I would try the store one more time and if it continues to be a mess with not much selection, I wouldn't go back!

    Review of: Children's Place the

I have shopped at many different Children's Place stores, and this one, at Southpoint Mall in Durham, was one of the best! It is located in the outside portion of the mall. They had a well organized store. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. One employee even volunteered to look in the back for a specific item! I was also impressed with their selection of clothes in my child's size -- a problem at other Children's Place locations. I will shop here again!

Review of: Bass Lake Park and Retreat Center

Bass Lake Park is located in Holly Springs, NC. The address is 900 Bass Lake Drive. It was very easy to find, and is not far from Apex, NC and is right off Highway 55. The lake and surrounding area is beautiful. They have a lovely "conference room" building with a wrap-around porch overlooking the lake, perfect for a wedding reception! They have a well-maintained trail that is about a mile long, or two miles round-trip. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the bathrooms were in great shape! Their big festival is in October every year, and from what I hear, you don't want to miss it!

Review of: White Squirrel Shoppe the

The White Squirrel Shop is in downtown Brevard, NC right on Main Street! The name of the shop speaks directly to the town's claim to fame -- white squirrels are among the wildlife in this quaint mountain town. If you haven't seen a white squirrel, you should google search for a picture! Very neat!

Anyway, this shop has lots of great gifts, such as bath and body products, candles, pillows, fun greeting cards, and much more! Their prices are reasonable, considering it is not junk. I found several "goodies" to buy, which is not usually the case!

  • Neat, eclectic toy store!

    Review of: O P Taylor's

O P Taylor's Toy Store is located at 2 Broad Street in downtown Brevard, North Carolina. When you walk in, it feels like the store is very small, but it is misleading! They must have taken over the stores on either side of them, as well as expanding upstairs. If you have kids into Thomas the Train, Legos, stuffed animals, games, outdoor fun, or just about any other niche, this is the store to visit! I found treasure after treasure hidden within the depths of the store! A great store that isn't just another "giant box full of plastic toys"!
