    Review of: Capt'n Nemo's Subs & Soups

A staple in Rogers Park for decades, Nemo’s has a wide variety of sub sandwiches, beef and meatball sandwiches. As an added bonus, the make their own soups and feature one daily. The soup can’t be beat. It’s a little pricey but worth every penny.

I've been going to this place forever and so has everyone else in the neighborhood. Don't miss it. The soup is the best and it's homemade.

  • Hot dogs? Burgers? Where's the beef?

    Review of: Portillos

There are 4 places in Chicago where you can get authentic Italian beef. J&C's downtown, Buono Beef in Forest Park and Oak Park, Johnny's in Elmwood Park, Al's on Taylor St. and....Portillo's. If the only stuff you reviewers have ever eaten at Portillo's is burgers and hot dogs you are truly missing what this place is famous for - it's the beef. It's juicy, it's filling, it's huge and It's Italian!!!!

If the only beef you ever had is at storefront fast food places, I can understand your reluctance to try it. But if you go there often, TRY THE BEEF!!!!

    Review of: Ricobene's Pizzeria

Ricobene's is the best. Absolutely agree. The breaded steak sandwich can't be beat and you can't find it anywhere else. If you get it with cheese and sauce you can barely pick up the sandwich. I always get the smaller one - I can barely eat that. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

  • Should we have pizza or build our own burger?

Review of: Gulliver's Pizzeria and Restaurant

This place is the most unbelievable conglomeration of tiffany lamps and sculptures I have ever seen. Everywhere you look there's another one. Yes you can smoke but only in a very small area near the bar, the whole smoking thing is so weird and stupid.

The food here is excellent. The pizza is legendary and you can even build your own burger with a choice of tins of toppings, or you can have it stuffed!!!

They're french onion soup is beyond compare, only Grunt's did it better, and their Italian food is superb.

Oh go there. See for yourself. They also deliver.

  • Irish Pubs anyone?

    Rating:

    Review of: Poitin Stil

This place is new, I've only been there once. I know a lot of people who go there. It's got a nice atmosphere and is beautiful inside...but

No Irish music that I could hear. Irish on the outside, regular bar on the inside. It's pleasant, it's a conversational place, but it ain't Irish. If you're looking for traditional, this isn't the place.

It's a tad pricey for me as well, but it is about the only bar in this part of the neighborhood so I guess that says something.

  • Going out for dinner and dancing

Review of: Gateway Bar & Grill

You can't beat this place for atmosphere, food and a lot of fun.

They're food is outstanding. But wait - they have live bands, lots of jazz, a bar and...drum roll please - a dance floor. Yes Virginia there are still places with dance floors.

This is a great restaurant. There is just nothing bad tha can be said about it. For a brilliant night out. Go here.

  • Cocktails anyone?

    Review of: Bruno's

Bruno’s is a neighborhood bar, family owned and operated for years. A long time ago it was your typical old men's bar. But when Bruno turned it over to his kids, they changed it a lot.

Across the street from Loyola University, they made the bar more attractive to the college crowd (and those of us who will never be old men). Complete with TV’s to watch sporting events, it’s a nice place to go for conversation and meeting friends or making new ones).

Bar drinks only, no fancy stuff, but it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either. For convenience, there is a carryout liquor store attached.

  • Ya man, I want some Jamaican food

    Review of: Jamaica Jerk Inc

This is a great Caribbean restaurant on Howard St. The people who run it are friendly and help to provide for great atmosphere to complement their good food. They also have a room that can be used for private events.

The food is good and the prices reasonable. There isn't much on Howad in the way of food - so this place is a godsend.

    Review of: Tasty Sub

Tasty Sub on Howard has all the usual fare, burgers, hotdogs, as well as great subs. Their prices are decent, service is good. The best part about Tasty Sub is they seem to be open all the time. Actually they’re open until about 4am. How many places can say that?

The older kids are walking out the door at 2 am and when I asked where they thought they were going they said - Tasty Sub. I said yeah right. But it was true. This place is open till about 4 in the morning. They MUST catch the bar crowd.

  • Let's rent movies - the tv is broken?

    Rating:

Review of: Minas TV and Video

Family run business which rents video games, movies, repairs and sells TV’s. They can compete with the big video stores with their reasonable rental policy and if your TV is broken they can fix it. If they can’t fix it, or it would cost too much, they’ll work with you on the price of a new one.

A friend of mine, who doesn't have a car called them when here TV broke. Not only did they come and get it for her for nothing, but when it would have cost too much to repair, they gave her a deal on the TV and brought it to her house.

She's been going there forever so I don't know if they do that for everyone, but I don't think Sears will
