Well, they're downtown, in the Medical Dental building at 509 Olive, but I saw Dr. Yajuan Wang at the Oriental Medical Center several years ago for chronic hip pain, and it worked wonders for me. Before seeing her, I had a hard time sleeping and doing anything more than walking, and she worked with me to help heal it..... I loved her, found her very comforting and the whole experience was really great. I'd recommend her to anyone. Additionally, there are other Oriental Medicine practitioners in her office that work with various types of naturopathy and herbs etc....
here's a http://www.orientalmedicalcenter.com/index.html to their site. Their phone number is 206- 343-7223.

We visited Dr. Dan with a VERY sick chicken. Our beloved bird had been listless for days and we kept thinking she'd get better, but she started coughing and wheezing and we knew we had to get her to the doctor. Unfortunately, it was too late. But, Dr. Dan was kind, and gentle and did everything he could to try and save her. More importantly, he was honest with us every step of the way that it wasn't likely to work. (Which it didn't, sadly.) What really struck me, besides his honesty and the incredibly caring nature of the staff, was the time he took with us to explain how a chicken can get pneumonia, why it wasn't our fault, but what we could look for in the rest of our tiny flock etc.... I felt very cared for and about and the experience was really great. I would recommend them to ANYONE. I just wish we could take the cats and dog to him!

I've bragged about my husband, Myles, before, but I'll take the opportunity again. With 15+ years of experience and a strong helping of European schooling after his architecture degree, he has extraordinary vision, great experience and is an all round great guy. He's the kind of guy who will really get to know who you are and how you live, and then create an environment in which you can thrive. And, speaking of environment, he's LEEDS accredited (environmental architect) and understands the importance of designing projects not just for the people who live in them, but for the climate in which they live. Their website is http://www.tca-inc.com. Don't be scared by the large scale public projects, look at the houses - many of which are remodels, as well as new construction. (If you're curious about him specifically, he did the Fauvre house in SF, which is on their site.) Oh, and he's a really nice, non-uppity guy.

I know a great architect. Actually, I've been married to him for 13 years, and I just think he's great - personally and professionally. As an architect, his strength is really in his ability to listen to what you actually need, how you actually live. (He'll ask you where you like to read the paper, and make sure there's somewhere to "toss it" when you're done so that it doesn't get in the way and annoy you.) His design sense is very modern, but inspired by the down-home comfort of things like old farm houses, and spaces to gather and relax. After finishing architecture school, we actually went and lived in Denmark so that he could study Danish modern design - specifically furniture - and that informs all of his design. He is also LEEDS certified (environmentally correct architecture) and passionate about sustainability - because not only is it better for the environment, it makes the cost of running a home MUCH cheaper. So, he's pretty fabulous. He's also a great guy. And, when you're talking about doing something as intimate as building a home (the foundation for your life) personal chemistry with your architect really matters. More than you'd think. He's part of a small firm of architects (all of whom I would describe very much like I just described him) and they have done a TON of homes - from multi-million dollar mansions to small simple artist residences, cabins etc.... They don't have a particular "look" or style, they design just for YOU. Their website is www.tca-inc.com, and you can see a lot of their homes, some of which my husband designed (look especially at the Fauvre residence in California - a house built on no land, just over the water, it's pretty cool.) Their phone number is 206-522-3830. Hope that helps.

I just wrote a lengthy review of these guys, so I'll make this one short. When you are designing a house for yourself, you want designers who design for YOU and YOUR lifestyle, not just for how the house will look in pictures for books and magazines. These guys - trained both here and in Europe - are the kind of designers that get to know you, how you live, what you want and need, and then design beautiful structures that are as artistic as they are functional. They have designed tons of homes in the area, ranging from multi-million dollar mansions to small "normal people" houses and remodels. But, because a portion of their practice is large scale municipal properties, they have the systems in place for it to run like a well-oiled machine. They are nice, honest, talented, visionary and friendly. They'll get a beautiful home, and a fulfilling process. (Full discalimer, I'm married to one of them, Myles, and get more respect for his skill as an architect and integiry as a human being every day....). Their website is www.tca-inc.com, phone, 206-522-3830.

Yesterday, at the gym, while plugging away on the elliptical trainer, trying to rid myself of the Thanksgiving dinner and leftovers that continues to plague me, i had a heart stopping moment. For some unexplained reason, my right arm flailed, just a tad, and caught my iPod chord, sending my iPod flying across several elliptical trainers, on to a treadmill, off of which it bounced and landed on the steel cases that hold all the wiring for the various machines. Oh, my beloved video iPod, holder of my entire music collection and entire seasons of several TV shows, which make it possible to spend all that time on the elliptical in the first place. i went t o retrieve my dead iPod. mourn it a bit, and properly eulogize it. BUT, MIRACLE OF MIRACLES, MY IPOD WAS STILL WORKING. Indeed, the episode of Prison Break that I was watching was still playing...... So, with that introduction, I am writing to heartily endorse the Tough Case that i bought to protect my iPod from scratches and other abuse -a s it can apparently withstand mid air travel and crash landings as well. It's a hard, clear plastic case that allows access to the selection wheel and all the plug-ins, but covers the screen, and the shiny body of the iPod. The only complaint I have is that the opening for the headphone jack, although big enough for headphones, isn't big enough for a monster cable to connect it to the stereo. But that seems a small hassle, given the other benefits. So there ya go. I now LOVE this product, and highly recommend it to anyone who takes their iPod with them anywhere. I'd still try not to drop it, but this can at least help. (Although i still may have just been very very lucky!)
