I just got back from a vacation and for the most part, I'm not a huge fan of flying. So, when the captain of my Continental Airlines flight said we were delayed from taking off because of a "fuel problem" I started freaking out! However, I was so impressed with how the crew handled the situation. The in-flight movie was started early to calm passengers, or help the time pass, however you look at it, and drinks were served. Finally, the captain himself came into the cabin and explained exactly what the problem was and assured us repeatedly that our plane was in fact safe. Before that, I was thisclose to asking to get off the flight (yes, I'm really that nervous!) but the crew & co. really did a professional job of dealing with the situation.

I've worked across this street for quite awhile, but just recently discovered Faces and Names. This pub is hidden between hotels in Manhattan's busy midtown. They always have a $7 lunch special, and it really is a great deal. The choices are so good! Like pesto ravioli or braised beef sandwiches. My coworkers had some sort of pasta dish when we went. I tried some and it was pretty flavorful, not overcooked. I had a salad....can't remember which though! It was huge for $7 and I did like it a lot. They also regularly have drink specials. The service is very do-it-yourself, and when we went it appeared one waitress and one bar tender were taking care of the whole place. That made it difficult to get our check, but for the value, I would go back. The walls are decorated with hilarious caricatures of celebrities, hence the name.

Ava lounge is atop the super-trendy Dream Hotel on 55th and Broadway. The lounge is separated on two floors and in the spring/summer, the roof deck is open, providing great views of Time Square. We had a friend's going away party there at the end of June, and it was perfect. You'll pay around $10 for one of there specialized martini drinks, but regular cocktails are at the high-end of the normal priced scale. If you have a special occasion, guests from out of town or just in the mood for something classier than a pub, definitely check this place out.

When looking for an apt. last year, I had an unfortunate experience with Manhattan Apartments, but I'm not one to hold a grudge, so I decided to give them a try again. They must screen for the most arrogant, rudest brokers around when deciding who to hire. I felt like our guy was just trying to steal as much money as possible from me and didn't really care if I lived in a box in Central Park as long as he got paid. The 15% commission is absurd considering how lacking the work they do is. There is no personal attention or consideration of your needs, just here's an apt., give us money, bye. They're also very pressuring and downright rude at times. I didn't actually believe it when the broker said his fee would be almost $9,000, with a totally straight face, and there was no negotiating about it. Save your money! Stick with craigslist, rent-direct.com, cheaprent.org, or another broker if you must, but definitely not Manhattan Apartments. I actually wish there was a "no-star" option for Judy's book right now, because "poor" is too much for these guys.

When I lived in France, Herve Chapelier was in ever department store. That's not so much the case in the US, and I sort of laugh when one of his bags is priced at $80 in Bloomingdales (in Fr. you can find them for around 30 euro). But that's doesn't mean they're not fabulous bags! The signature look is the two-tone shoulder bag mad of a very durable, waterproof canvas-ish material. The colour combinations are really endless and the bags vary in size from coin purse to weekend travel bag. They really do hold everything. It's a great idea to use one as a baby bag! I own two. You'll be the most stylish and organized mom around.

Check out postsecret.com. It's a fabulous website/concept and has spun off a few books. The idea is that people send in anonymous postcards that they decorate with a secret they want to share, or just need someone/the world to know. Sometimes they are hilarious, sometimes sad, sometimes a little mysterious. Every week the site is updated with new cards. If you can't get enough, there are two books with postsecrets currently published. It's such a phenomenon! It's addicting, but it does good work since proceeds go to a suicide help line. Check out this site.

My ipod died 2 weeks ago. I'm so upset. I feel so distracted when I exercise now because I don't have my music with me. If anyone has ipod deals I really want to get a new one. I've heard that if you recycle an old, broken ipod, you get 20% off a new one at an Apple store.
Before this though, my ipod was fabulous! I'm a big fan of classic rock. Usually I don't like rap at all, but Kanye West has been growing on me. Same with Justin Timberlake and "Sexy Back." I just can't sit still when I hear that song!

I didn't understand why people waited on a line around the corner at Magnolia Bakery. It's very good, but there are places that are just as wonderful (although not featured in Sex & the City, I suppose). This is one of them! Billy's is a candy-coloured small bake shope that makes you want to try one of everything. The vanilla cake is great. I've bought cupcakes here and over-nighted them to friends that don't live in the city. So if you're in Chelsea and don't want to deal with the hassel of waiting 15min for a cupcake, stop by Billy's!

Whenever I go visit my parents, I get really excited when my mom goes out for bagels at Time for a Bagel. It's a cute, family run stop in the suburbs with great bagel-making skills! The selection is plentiful and they have a variety of cream cheeses, spreads or a deli if you want a sandwich on a bagel. They're always have the right softness and the outside is never too hard or burned. My favorite is sesame because the seeds actually smell and taste toasted. This little shop know what they're doing when it come to bagels.
