I have a medium sized dog (Jake) at 65 lbs and 2 "Jerk Russell Terrorists" at 14.5 and 18lbs. Small dogs can be good in some aspects because if your dog is getting out of line you can always pick it up and move it. With larger dogs that's harder to do. However, we find that our little dogs are generally more aggressive, bark more, and require more entertainment.
Why is this? Part of it is that JRT's were originally bred and trained for hunting - foxes, badgers, rats, and more. Understanding that the word "terrier" comes from the word "terroir", meaning ground, lets you in on their usual problems such as digging. Little dogs have lots of energy. We joke that the JRT's have 2 speeds, on and off - there is no middle ground. If they aren't tearing around the yard or house they are usually napping. One friend has a JRT that we jokingly say turns all houses into a skateboard park for dogs.
The folks at Canine Behavior Center put it best when they say, "a tired dog is a good dog." Usually a minimum of 2 miles of walking each day is good for most pets but in the teen years of dogs you might need a little more. Jake used to need up to 5 or 6 miles of jogging when he was around 2 yrs old to keep him calm. Now that he's 11 he can get exhausted doing 2 miles of walking. I took Jake and all of our JRT's to their classes. They are held in Bellevue and they do a remote class through the Phinney Neighborhood Association. It's really worth it. Usually the class spans about 9 weeks, meeting only 1 night per week for about an hour. You're expected to do training exercises throughout the week to show skill building at each session. It's basically a "train the trainer" type of thing but that's the real catch - it's the owners that need to be willing to train and be consistent with the pet.
Crate training can help to potty train your dog and will provide them a safe place in your home if the dog were to get stressed. It also helps to train for traveling.
How much does a dog cost to own? Well, it depends... is your dog a purebred that has common ailments in its breed? Many purebreds aren't as healthy as mixed pets because of inbreeding. Pets can get the same illnesses as humans, or at least their own version of them, and there is no knowing what may happen over the years of your relationship with a pet when that may or may not occur.
My cat, Morrey, is pretty healthy and he's 19 (I've had him since he was 8). He usually has his annual physical but last year we had a lot of visits to the vet because he decided to take off out of a 2nd story window and ended up with casts on his 2 front legs and with 4 months of treatment. Is he worth it? Yes.
Our previous JRT was found to have a heart problem and we had to give him 2 pills a day for it. There were yearly EKGs and medication costs. In the end, we only had Russell for 2.5 years because he had a heart attack when we weren't home. I still say every dime spent on him, and every rug he ruined during potty training, was worth it because he had the personality of a superstar and we loved him.
Adopting a pet is a huge commitment that comes with a lot of responsibility. Do so with the understanding that this is a life that you are taking into your care.

I have been taking my cats and dogs to this place for years. I wrote a separate review for them before on this space as well. Dr. Jeb Mortimer is really great so you can ask for him directly but I do like all of the vets at this clinic even though I've heard others say that they found a few a bit stiff. Some of it is generational, I think, but it all depends on your comfort level.
The vet nursing staff are also really great. I've never had a bad experience with them even though there have been times I've had to be there under stressful and sad circumstances.

I've been going to Greenlake Animal Hospital for a long time (about 15 years) and I've always had good experiences. It's worth going to see them and since they have multiple veterinarians at the office you have a choice as to who you see. Lately I've been specifically asking for Dr. Mortimer as he has helped in some major cases with our pets and I know he's getting to know their personal histories, which I really like. I take both cats and dogs to see them and have yet to find a reason to do otherwise.

I stopped in this shop with my niece and a friend to look around for some fun clothes and ended up being pleasantly surprised at what we found. Our final total for the day was $155.59 and that covered everything including sales tax. What did we get for our money? We got 4 tops (2 x $22 and 2 x $26) and one really pretty dress ($49).
I got 3 of the shirts, all of them are appropriate for my business with 1 short sleeved, 1 long sleeved and fitted button down shirt and the other being a 3/4 sleeve shirt. My niece got the pretty dress and we also got her a really pretty and feminine top that she'll be able to layer and use for both dressy and casual occasions.
I did find some items in XL here which could have been good for my friend who was shopping with us but there weren't that many offerings in her size. The sizes weren't consistent throughout the store so you had to really try things on to make sure they fit.

So, Christmas shopping is in full swing and I needed to pick up something for my grandma who is now living in an assisted living facility. After chatting with mom I decided on a couple of nightgowns for her - one is long sleeved flannel for the cooler winter months in Kansas and the other is a short sleeve cotton gown she can use in the hot summer time.
Both of these were on sale and I got a screaming deal of paying less than $30 for the two of them. The thin button down shirt I got my nephew at tres' chic AE was $40 so this purchase seems like a major bargain. Not being a fan of Wal-Mart it gives me satisfaction to have given my business to one of their major competitors.

I love my Honda S2000 convertible. I purchased it in early 2001 (before stock crash and dot-bombs in Seattle) and have loved having it for cruising around. It's small and somewhat impractical however I wouldn't trade it - we've gone camping in it and been able to put a surprising amount of stuff in the trunk - it just takes good planning and packing.
The gas mileage is reasonable and I actually take clients out in it all the time - albeit one at a time. Most clients think it's a lot of fun, especially in the summer when the top is down, and for many they've never ridden in a convertible.
The servicing has always been done by the Honda dealership where I bought it (downtown Seattle) and the only thing I'd have to say I'd change are 2 things: the tires can't be rotated so having to buy all new tires every couple of years is a little pricey, and the back window I'd prefer to be glass rather than plastic (the newer models do have glass).

This lovely gelateria is a unique find in Seattle because it truly does evoke the experience of being in another place. We stopped by this weekend after some hat shopping at the nearby B. Utz shop and savored 4 flavors (not huge portions, thankfully) and a cappucino. Our choices consisted of coconut, pistachio, stracciatello, and caffe'.
When I travel to Italy I sample gelato in as many flavors as is possible and this shop will help me seek out this same desire for gelato but closer to home. I will definitely visit this shop again (I can't believe it took me this long to go there) - and I think I like it even over the long-standing Il Procopio just west of the Pike Place Market (off Western Ave).

We met up with several friends the other night at this favorite of ours and had a really good time. While it can be hard to get a space to sit for a larger group we did finally get a couple of tables we could put together to handle 9 of us comfortably enough. The staff gets pretty harried because of how busy it is in here so be prepared to be patient or they'll ignore you.
The beer brewed by Maritime is some of our favorite stuff - with some of the bigger faves being Jolly Roger (seasonal) and Nightwatch. You do have to be careful of the JR because the alcohol content is much higher than the usual brew so be careful when drinking it and limit yourself. You can get their beer in grocery stores as well - we buy the seasonal Jolly Roger beer every winter. You can frequently find it on sale at the Ballard Market off of 15th Ave NW.
The food served here is usually pretty tasty and we were pleased as usual. We do, however, need someone to remind us when we go in how easy it is to over-order. A ton of food was brought to our table, a sampling of the list is below:
entrees - shrimp carbonara, habinero pork, mixed green salad, opa
samplers/shared foods - jolly's (mini-burgers), mahi mahi burgers (mini), smokers (onion rings), planks (fries), fried pickles, spreaders (hummus and more on bread)
We walked out of there with what I usually refer to as a "food baby". You know, enough to stuff you so you can barely move and you don't need to eat for a day. Still, we'll be back. :)
