Arby's in Thomasville
Review of: Arby's
I love Arby's food but if the service continues this way I will never step foot in another Arby's again. approx 11:40am 10-2-07 I was in the Thomasville NC Arby's. I got to the counter and asked for a small chocolate shake please and gave Melissa my Silver Valley Elementary School Discount card. She told me the full price then looked at the card and very rudely said "What's That". I explained I got 10% off, she then said in the same rude tone "well YOU could have said something". At that point I got an attitude and said "I KNOW you did not speak to a customer that way" she rolled her eyes and the crew manager kind of snickered. I asked for the manager. He took his time coming to speak with me.I told him about what had transpired and asked if that was standard policy for Arby's, he looked blank for a moment then stuttered and said "no". He then apologized and added that they get several discount cards so she did not know which one it was. (like she could not READ THE CARD) Anyway, for me a sucky half apology is not good enough. If Melissa is that unhappy and does not want to be there that much that it is coming through to the customers, then she needs to go home and not come back. BOTTOM LINE. I even had other customers, people I do not know, coming up to the manager and I speaking vouching for me. There was NO excuse for it.
Some of the other customers were upset at having to stand in line at lunch time with ONE register running because the crew manager, I believe her name is Felicity, was talking with an off duty employee about DSS cases and other jobs they both had! A line of more than 5 customers and she is talking and joking with an off duty employee?? The off duty employee left & Felicity got back on her register. That is not acceptable customer service either ESPECIALLY for a manager in any capacity. Arby's used to be top notch, the best of the major fast food chains. I am sorry it has slipped.
The food is still good but the customer service leaves ALLOT to be desired and is what pulled my rating of the business down. The only reason I am not rating it "poor" is because it is clean and the food is good.- Posted on 10/2/2007

Farmer's Market Moose Cafe
Review of: Farmer's Market Moose Cafe
Tuesday May 22 around 2PM my 4 year old daughter and I decided to try the Farmer's Market Moose Cafe for lunch. The decor is nice although I would have not chosen the yellow for the walls. They do have a small shop where they sell overpriced clothing and such advertising the Moose Cafe.
There was only 1 other party in the restaurant when we were seated. They finished their meal and left shortly after we were seated.
We decided what we wanted and placed our order.
The music from the area the dishwashers were in was so loud that I could hear it in the dining area where we were seated. Had we been in a Mexican restaurant, the music would have been ok, but I really was not interested in listening to the local Hispanic radio station.
Our waitress brought out our drinks. They were served in glass pint mason jars. A glass mason jar without a lid for a child?????? My daughter usually does well with drinks so I did not make a big deal over the lack of an unbreakable cup with a lid for a child. Two other parties arrived and were seated. Our food came out. My daughter's chicken strips were made from breast meat and were a little, ok, allot dry for me. The rest of the food was good. I had drank all my water and my daughter was needing more pink lemonade, or lemlade as she calls it so I moved both glasses to the edge of the table. A person was seated directly behind us. The waitress passed by us SEVERAL times, she went to take the person behind us' order. She then walked right past us again, ignoring the empty glasses. Both my daughter as well as myself tried unsuccessfully verbally and motioning to her to get her to stop to refill our drinks. I even mentioned loudly while she was at the table directly behind me (we were seated in a booth) that her tip was drastically reducing the longer we were without drink refills.
One of the other staff members made a fairly loud announcement to the rest of the staff that they needed to remove personal belongings from a cabinet because something very unpleasant, rotten, and possibly dead was found under there and it was stinking. OK THEN!
People that were seated AFTER us got drink refills, boxes to carry home what they did not finish eating, and left. We were still trying to get our drinks refilled! One less than a pint of drink (too much ice was in the glasses) for a meal on a very HOT day is just not enough.
The waitress passed by several more times. She then paused to lay the bill on the table! I FINALLY got her attention long enough to get a refill on our beverages! I also ordered the special from the chalk board at the entrance for dessert, peach cobbler with ice cream. YUM! She refilled our drinks. About 3 MINUTES later she returned to tell me that they did not have peach cobbler that day but did have strawberry. Strawberry is fine.
The cobbler arrived at our table, it was good. I had the cobbler and my daughter had the ice cream.
Being that the wait staff was standing around and chatting amongst themselves rather than paying attention to their customers I did NOT leave any kind of a tip.
I paid for our food and decided we *may* try them for breakfast or dinner once more but if things have not changed we will NEVER go back. While we were paying the cashier asked how the food was to which I responded the food was ok the service was lacking severely though. Nothing else was said.- Posted on 5/24/2007

Stellas is stellar!
Review of: Stella's
We ate at a restaurant called Stella's in Lexington. It is near the Cracker Barrel & Applebees...they have Mediterranean and American foods. Allot of Greek and Italian dishes. YUM!
Hannahlynne (my 4 year old) had a cheeseburger, The Daddy Person had Italian , and I had Greek. We did have 1 fight though, The Daddy Person snatched one of my Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and took a bite (he gave me the other half back because he knows he is taking his life in his hands)....then Hannahlynne said she wanted to touch one.....the little &$^#@% snatched it and took a BIG HONKEN BITE....she snatched it FAST then wanted MORE! Now I LOVE my Dolmades so the fight was ON! I then had to stand guard over my food! I will share my pita, salad, souvlaki, spanakopita, sautéed spinach, ... But DON'T TOUCH MY GRAPE LEAVES! LOL
Oh yes, they pit their olives! For anyone that is used to eating Greek food you know the olives usually have their pits, not here. That was nice.
The owner is 200% GREEK! He used to live in Astoria, which is the part of Queens (New York) where all the Greeks live. He has a REAL thick Greek accent and is as nice as can be! He said being that this is only his 2nd or 3rd week open he has not completed the menu the way he really wants it....I agreed they NEED Keftethes and Pastitsio! LOL He kept saying, "give us time LOL". The prices are reasonable, roughly $8.00 and you get allot of food, I had NO room for dessert, which looked sooooooooo goooooood, and brought quite a bit home. The kids entrées are around $3.00 or $4.00 and come with a drink and ice cream. They get to choose the flavor, either strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla and a topping like sprinkles, oreos, m & m, ... and it is not this pathetic 1/4 scoop that kid's usually get free with their meal, it is a full serving in a regular sized ice cream dish (one of the taller ones).
The wait staff are very very friendly, the whole vibe of the place was very welcoming.
They even offered to change or turn down the music when my eyes started leaking and I snotted up, no I wanted to hear it even though I bawled like a baby but that's another story. (it was The Backstreet Boys, the song was Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely ~ my late daughter LOVED them and the lyrics to the song,.... well it just fits. A person who's partner died wrote the song about how they felt when the person died and things like that)
Anyway for this area Stella's is a GREAT place to eat! (I don't mean that in a bad way, I have just traveled allot in the past and had the REAL DEAL in allot of different foods.)
I will be eating here quite a bit now!

Buffet?
Review of: Pizza Hut
Last night we went to the Pizza Hut in Lexington for their buffet, if that is what you call it. It runs from 5pm to 8pm every Tuesday.
We got there around 6pm. The booth was NOT made for larger people. We did not have a problem sitting in the booth but I know of some people that would not be able to fit. The table was mounted to the wall so you could not make any extra seating room.
They were slack on refilling the buffet items so things ran out quite a bit. They had about 6 pizzas of different kinds out including 1 dessert pizza, macaroni and cheese, some kind of baked pasta with tomato sauce and cheese on top, and 2 kinds of bread sticks. They also had a salad bar.
The pizzas were good but kept running out and it took a long time for them to replace them. The macaroni and cheese was only replaced once, it was empty almost the whole time we were there. The baked pasta/tomato/cheese dish was not replaced. The bread sticks were refilled twice as people kept asking for them, but again they were slow on refilling. And when things did get refilled it was like a shark feeding frenzy of people trying to get it so the decent stuff did not last long. The salad bar,.....well, it was fairly well stocked as most people were there for the cooked items. Most of the salad bar was in good shape with the exception of the cucumbers which were almost empty and what was left was FROZEN. The peaches were canned and had a "tingly" taste to them. I believe they had been out one too many times if not more.
There were some games and coloring offered for the kids.
My 4 year old LOVED it and had lots of fun, but then she only ate cheese pizza and played and colored.
The wait staff was very friendly and kept your drinks refilled and the dirty plates cleaned off your table.
The cost was $5.99 for adults and there was no charge for the kid buffet. I did have to pay for the kid's drink which was around $2.00.
Over all it is ok and fun for the kids but if you are looking for good buffet food you probably should look somewhere else.
One would think that they would be prepared with buffet item refills since they have it every week.- Posted on 1/10/2007

Tumble Tots
Review of: Tumble Tots of Lexington Inc
Have a kid with way too much energy? Tumble Tots of Lexington is your answer!
link
They have several programs to choose from. Including a "Parents Time Out" daily. The Parents Time Out program at Tumble Tots provides a wide range of activities. Children receive one hour of instructed gymnastics, an hour of alternative preschool instruction, supervised free time in the gym and more! Children staying until 1:30 in the afternoon, will also participate in arts and crafts. The kids bring home the sheets they have worked on daily.
Discipline is done with time out.
Prices vary depending on which program you choose to participate in but are very reasonable. There is an annual membership fee of $25.00 per student or $45.00 per family. They occasionally will offer programs for non members.
You may also have a birthday party there! All birthday parties are private so the gym is YOURS! The cost for the parties include Full set-up, Paper products, Beverages, and Clean-up!
I currently take my 4 year old daughter to the Parents Time Out and she LOVES it, as does Mommy! Hannahlynne is WORN OUT when I pick her up and usually falls asleep in the car before we get home! (it is about a 15/20 minute ride home) They have an end of year program every December where the kids do a short routine and get a medal. Hannahlynne is very very proud of her medals! The end of year program lasts about 20 minutes.
They have 2 separate bathrooms and will help with potty training! Sometimes this is easier and faster if your child in training can be around other kids that already use the potty.
They have a separate room for eating and crafts. The entire floor of the gym area is padded for safety.
Tumble Tots is not associated with any school system so if school is closed Tumble Tots may still be open.
It is very easy to find. It is right beside the Highway Patrol in Lexington and just a block or so from Lexington Memorial Hospital.
The owners, Kim and Katie, both have children of their own and are wonderful with kids. There are others they call in to help teach if they will be having a large group of kids on any given day.
Most kids cannot wait to get in and have to be drug out kicking and screaming! It is allot of fun for them! And it is temperature controlled so if it is too cold to play outside or you don't have time to supervise play, maybe you have a doctor appointment, want to go shopping, or just have time for yourself, drop them off at Tumble Tots and don't worry!

Mimi's Cafe
Review of: Mimi's Cafe
Some friends and I were going to have a dinner together and decided to go to Mimi's Cafe, a restaurant that had recently opened that none of us had been to before.
There was complementary hot cider for guests that were waiting on tables along with a coffee cake/strudel type pastry. We were seated quickly. They have a wonderful selection of dishes that are reasonably priced. Most were around $10.00 give or take. I am not sure why BBQ Ribs were listed with "seasonal" dishes though. Anyway, they bring a bread basket out to your table as alot of restaurants do. There was a small French or Italian type loaf and some slices of a carrot/date/walnut type bread. The small loaf bread was good once you got inside it. The crust was VERY HARD. We joked that we needed a reciprocating saw to slice it. The carrot/date/walnut bread was DELICIOUS! Even my 4 year old liked it, now that is saying something! The food came out fairly quick and was very good. I ordered the crab cakes (2 of them) with vegetables (squash, broccoli,...), rice, and a small cup of soup. The rice I gave to my daughter because she loves rice LOL. (I got it just for her even though she ordered a meal for herself off the kid's menu) I did taste the rice and some of it was a little hard from sitting out and it tasted a little bland for me. I was more than full from the bread, soup, and part of my crab cakes and veggies. Oh yes, there was also some homemade type slaw with it. I had to bring half or so of the food home! (everyone did, even the men that were with us) Needless to say I did not try their desserts even though the pineapple cake sounded very tasty.
Overall it is a good place to eat.- Posted on 12/11/2006

Atlantis is sinking
Review of: Atlantis Cafe
When it first opened it looked nice so we decided to try it. It was very busy which is understandable. We waited for a table. The decor is BEAUTIFUL. We were finally seated. We looked over the menu, nice selection of food, not too bad on price. I asked some questions about some of the dishes, our waitress did not know the answers which is understandable, after all it is a new restaurant. She went and got the answers, not a problem. We ordered, our drinks were brought out. The food was taking awhile. The waitress kept coming back apologizing and we kept telling her it was ok we were not in that big of a hurry. Everyone was new just take her time, and we chatted some. One time she came to our table to apologize for the delay and had been crying. I asked what was wrong. She said another table had just been screaming at her for EVERYTHING including the fact that 2 of the cooks had quit and walked out which was why the food was taking so long. Some of the wait staff had quit as well. NONE of it was her fault. She would not tell me who had laid into her so bad because I WOULD have gone over to have a word with them. 1. the restaurant was completely new and 2. the staff was completely new so one should expect things to be a little confusing and disorganized. and 3.They were EXTREMELY busy for their first Saturday night! If those people wanted food FAST there is a McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, ... and even a Chinese buffet place right up the road! If they wanted seafood, there were other seafood restaurants up the road in the other direction! We got her calmed down and in a better mood and frame of mind. Our food finally came out, let's just say I've had better. For the price of my dish this should have been better. I did order one of the more expensive plates. The steak was leathery, not too tender and the lobster was very very dry and over cooked.
We have been back a couple of times and each time the place was practically empty! The food prices have gotten better but the food quality has not. I honestly did not expect them to still be in business but they are. I have not seen more than a dozen cars in their parking lot a any given time since they first opened. (and personally, I thought those were the cars of the employees!) I have no desire to go back, there are other places to eat where the food is much better.- Posted on 10/20/2006

"Applebeans" as my 4 year old calls it
Review of: Applebees
We had gone to Applebees in Lexington, NC one Saturday evening and I ordered a dish that had steak and shrimp. I usually order my steak medium rare and this was no exception. My boyfriend ordered a steak dish and got his medium. The food took awhile to come out but they were kind of busy that night. They brought his out first, it looked good. He cut into it and it was waaayyyyyyy over done. He is not one to complain that much so he tried to eat it anyway. (eeewwwww a piece of dry leather!) They finally brought out mine, it looked good as well. I ate my shrimp and was eating on my side items, then I cut into my steak, it did not look quite right. I turned the steak over and that side was completely RAW! It has not been cooked at all. Now I like steaks a little rare but this was a little too extreme for me. When the wait person came back by he asked if we needed anything, I said I'd like for my food to be cooked on BOTH sides please. He looked at me kind of strange then I turned over my steak. He took it back to the kitchen. The excuse we got was that there were too many people in the kitchen and someone turned my steak over to cook the other side then someone else came by and the side that was up looked done so they threw it on the plate with the shrimp, cheese, and sides and sent it out. LAME EXCUSE to me because it did not appear as if that one side had ever seen much less touched the hot grill! After we sent it back and got a new one it was very good. The wait person stood at the table while I made sure it had been cooked on both sides. We NEVER got an apology, just the lame excuse.
We have been back since and the food and service is good.- Posted on 10/20/2006

Logan's Roadhouse
Review of: Logan's Road House
It was getting later in the evening and we had been working all day at a home near the Virginia/NC line which is about a 2 hour or so drive from where we live now. We were tired and this place was on the way home, as were other places...our mistake here, but we had eaten here in the past and it was ok. Well, it started out ok this night as we were promptly seated. We ordered our drinks and food then waited and waited and waited. the drinks FINALLY showed up. How hard is it to get 2 glasses of WATER? (I am thinking I should have ordered something stronger because of the way things were starting out) It was not that busy there that night as it was getting late. The food comes out, our server was non existent for the most part and when she was around she was not in the best of moods.
The food was mediocre at best but edible and we were tired and really did not feel like going anywhere else not to mention we still had a 30 minute or so drive to get home. We finished and waited and waited and waited on the bill to come. Our less than attentive wait person finally brought out the bill and we paid with a card like usual and the tip reflected the service we had received. (He actually tipped more than what I would have) We left and on the way home stopped for fuel, and used the same card. At the gas station we paid at the pump so things were faster.
A day or so later the credit card company calls us to verify a charge of $1100.00. We had just bought a bed that was around that much but no, that is not what this charge was for. He asked me if I had bought anything and used his card, uh no. I tell him whenever I buy something on his card and I am not gonna buy something on his card that is anywhere near $1000.00! After a little talking we found out the charges were for clothes from an order called in to Talbot's. I have nothing against Talbot's but I don't shop there, ever. The charge was denied. We talked further with the credit card company and got a little more information. They never gave the address or anything of where the clothing order was to be sent but we did figure out that our moody hateful waitress from Logan's had kept a copy of the credit card and was now trying to buy stuff on it as that was the only time that card ever left our hands. The card was canceled, a new one issued, and the credit card company pursued charges against the waitress. Had she bought stuff a little cheaper we would have never known until the statement came but because this was a LARGE amount the credit card company called to verify. We usually use a different card for the bigger purchases. We have not been back to Logan's since and I have no desire to go back anytime soon.- Posted on 10/20/2006

Bath and Body Works really works!
Review of: Bath & Bodyworks
They have all kinds of wonderful smelling products for your every pampering need! They have scented candles, lotions, oils, plug in home fresheners, sprays, deodorants, antibacterial, haircare, ... the list goes on and on! Their products not only smell good but are good for you as well! This is one of my FAVORITE shops! I LOVE the scent called Moonlight Path. It is a very nice lavender scent! I ALWAYS get compliments when I wear it. You can test the products in the stores as well! All of the stores I have been in have had a working sink to try some of the soaps and such. One of my friend's has very rough hands, we were at the mall and stopped in a Bath and Body Works store, he tried 2 of their products that work "hand in hand" for rough skin and was amazed at the results! It is not just for women either, they have product lines for kids and men as well! Some things are a little pricey but there is ALWAYS a sale on something there.
