The student body and faculty are wholly focused on being inclusive, to the point of avoiding using the name "Jesus" and other "traditional" Christian lingo that may have been deemed offensive. There was also a blatant condemnation of students who do not completely share all of the "progressive and open" life guidelines or attitudes du jour. Professors publicly label white students racists and many others are tagged as idiots when their politics don't match. Yes, these brutal and divisive opinions were offered in a public setting. The administrative offices rest on the identity slogan of "we're a small school" to excuse sub-standard service and a lack of attention to detail. Students and staff alike were often arrogant and belligerent. The voice of Union is not one of balance in total, but rather only offering an opposing view in this world of seekers. A message is only as good as the tone in which it is presented. The tone at this seminary was condescending and wanting for service-oriented professionalism. The teaching assistants did not impress as being properly vetted. They were observed rolling eyes at students and engaging in other immature, uninspired behaviors. Again, this was not the degree of professionalism one should be able to expect at an esteemed institution, nor at this price range. UTS receives 2 stars vice 1 or 0, because some of the faculty are legitimate scholars. If you are seeking a place of balance, as opposed to simply offereing an opposing point of view, look closely. If you are seeking a place to focus on Christian spiritual growth, analyze Union intensely. It may not be what you are looking for. If you are looking for a place to join a left-wing socio-political agenda with some form of religious habit, UTS may work for you. Ask lots of questions on your visit, and listen very carfully to the answers. All in all the experience was exclusionary, lonely and uninspired.
