Tens of thousands of waterfowl and shorebirds can be seen resting and feeding during the winter and spring migrations (October - April) at the Yolo Wildlife Area. The Yolo Wildlife Area is the largest public/private restoration project west of the Florida Everglades. 16,000 acres of land in the Yolo Bypass floodway have been restored to wetlands and other associated habitats. The Yolo Wildlife Area is the site of the Discover the Flyway program for schools implemented by the Yolo Basin Foundation. Wildlife area is open sunrise to sunset and closed when the Bypass is flooded. Visitors can view birds and other wildlife along the auto tour route and walking trails. Guided tours and school tours are available through the Yolo Basin Foundation at (530)758-1018 for tour info or (530)757-4826 for school tour info.
