I have never written a negative review before, but I am so angry about how I was treated when I visited this store today. I recently moved to Westlake and had never been to this store. However, I had frequented "Once Upon a Child" stores in Arizona on several occasions to sell and buy children's clothes and was always treated very courteously.
Today, I waited 5-10 minutes as I juggled a pile of clothes that I wanted to sell and my two year-old, while a woman who later identified herself as the manager and another worker ignored me. No one else was checking out, but apparently they were too busy to greet me. When they did ask for my clothes, I gave them to them and proceeded to look around the store while my two year-old played quietly in the designated play area. They argued loudly about whether to accept my clothes with the manager at one point saying that a jacket I brought looked like a "clown outfit." Come on. Believe me, I have no expectations of all my clothing being bought, but please be professional during the decision-making process. You are not Neiman-Marcus buyers.
They called me over to talk about what they were going to buy and I took my son with me. The manager then yelled at him for touching an exersaucer that was sitting right under the cash register. Please...you can't expect kids to keep their hands off of a toy that is located right in the middle of the transaction center. My son then noticed a Wiggles car in the toy section and went to go grab it. I went with him after receiving my cash and he was sitting on the floor pushing the car. He was not in a main thoroughfare for traffic in the store and was not being disruptive which believe me, he can be! I was debating whether to buy the toy, when the manager then decides she has to walk through the toy section to carry some items to the back of the store and starts making exasperated noises and stomping her foot like a two year-old, apparently because she thought he was in the way.
At this point, I am ticked and follow her to ask her if she is the owner. After a tense encounter in which I tell her how rude she has been to me and my son and remind her this is a children's store, I manage to get the owner's name out of her. She then goes on a tirade about the fact that my son was touching the toys and I should have kept him in the children's play area. UNBELIEVABLE! This woman needs a new career that does not involve dealing with kids and the owner of this store needs a wake-up call about the effect this woman is having on the reputation of her store.
Apparently, I am not the only person to feel this way. When I went to pick up my daughter from school, I was talking about my encounter and four other women told me of similar experiences at the store.
