I enjoy Village market Place as an alternative to jewel and other major chains.
They do very well with deli, where their cold cuts and cheese selection is outstanding, MUCH less expensive than Jewel and clearly less expensive than their competitor, Market Place on Oakton.
Their produce is generally good and generally priced much better than Jewel, but I do look through thoroughly to make sure I am getting the quality I want. They occasionally have some older produce out without removing it from the bins..
I've had good experiences with their packages chicken, which is good and reasonably prices, and their dairy products. They usually have large eggs on sale for .99 a pound.
Lastly, they have a small but nice selection of wines and Russian/Eastern European beers.
The people there are really nice and helpful.
So, I recommend them highly. Just look closely at the produce.
