Cute, hip, comfortable jeans do not have to be a challenge- even if you are 5’3”. First, take a stroll downtown to Tulip. Owner, Annie Sparrow has the best selection of jeans for any body type. More importantly, the ladies at Tulip are very honest and helpful with recommendations (they also know the BEST tailor in town for those that need hemming). No hard selling like at the big department stores. I am a firm believer that great pair of jeans are worth the money as long as they look fabulous and make you feel good. Plus, it is a local small business, which I prefer to support. Personally, I prefer styles with stretch but depending on your body type it might not be your cup of tea. Most importantly, get a pair that makes your butt look good. Low waist is not for everyone but well placed pockets are! We come in all shapes and sizes so try on every pair in your size. Secondly, jeans stretch out. So if you are looking for comfort you might want a pair of jeans a little on the small side (nothing you can not breathe in). This will prevent the saggy diaper effect down the road. My favorite brands are Blue Cult, James Jeans, and Citizen for Humanity. You will also need a good pair of underwear to go with your jeans. I swear by Cosabella. And here is the final tip for everyone- take care of your clothes. All cotton can shrink up to ¾ of an inch in length in warm water and a hot dryer. Wash your jeans before you alter them. If you LOVE your new hip jeans then wash in cold and lay flat to dry. Worst case you can dry them once and a while (inside out) so that the life of your jeans lasts longer. This might sound neurotic, but my clothes last. At 2x a week, we are talking 100+ wearing… the average price per wearing pays off over time.
