my husband's dowry included a cherry bedroom set (bed frame, dresser and end tables) which has firmly established him, in my eyes, as a man of great taste. the beautiful pieces are from the shinto line (one of seven) and have a slight asian feel to them. we just ordered a round dining table and chairs for casual dining and house projects and i was thrilled to learn they have a new finish available that is incredibly durable. no water rings from dewy drinks, no stains from splashes of wine or olive oil, and no indents from authors who press down too hard on their pens. the prices are high but my husband says you have to "shop like a man" and know you are paying a lot but getting an incredible piece of furniture that is timeless in both appearance and durability.
