My car was totally un-serviceable. I was on a road trip and had the car towed to Almaden Valley Transmission. The owner was very friendly. He took a look, gave me a call back a couple days later, and told me what the problem was and how much it would be to fix. I told him to go ahead and I had the car back in ten days.
Be prepared; your car might take a little longer. Especially if they're busy, it might be a few extra days. But it's well worth it. Just make sure you arrange for some other transportation in the mean time.
