Review content:
When I arrived at the Thumb there were some empty tables and I took one. I watched the waitress take orders from tables around me but she never came to mine. Finally I flagged down a waitress who seemed to be tailing the other one and she reluctantly took my order and brought me a glass of water. 10 minutes later she came back to ask if anyone else had taken my order and I said no.(??) She asked what I'd like on the side of my burger and then disappeared behind the bar.
As the place filled up I invited a couple of women to share my table (they had found chairs but no free tables.) At this point people were standing about 3 deep at the bar. My waitress had not reappeared and my time was running out.
I went to the bar in an attempt to get service. While standing there talking to another ignored customer, I saw a cook from the kitchen dart over to my table, grab the box of condiments, take it across the room to a stranger's table, then run back into the kitchen through a back door.
At this point the place was bedlam. Angry customers stood all around the bar trying to place orders and frantic waitresses could only exclaim "see how busy we are!" when I tried to request my burger. Finally I told one of them that I'd ordered half an hour ago from the 'Jamaican girl' and somehow that got her attention. Miraculously, she brought me a burger and I just had time to gulp it before running back to the tent.
So... Sundance is a busy time. This little restaurant is not accustomed to the between-movie crowds but my feeling is that they have no excuse not to be prepared for the rush. Sundance comes every year. It was no secret that 50,000 people were expected to descend on Park City this year. Being busy is not an excuse for wretchedly poor service.
My only lasting regret is that I did pay for my meal. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had in my life.
Pros: location - if you're at the Racquet club you pretty much have no other choice
Cons: too noisy, crowded, impossible to get service if it's busy
