Review content:
I took my husband to Scalo for an early Valentine's dinner. I've always heard that it was one of the best fancy restaurants in Albuquerque, but I was very mistaken and embarrassed! It's too bad because it has the perfect atmosphere. I ordered the scallop and gnocchi ""special"" for $28. I assumed that the special would be the best and freshest item that the chef could offer. I was shocked to receive only 3 revoltingly salty scallops with about 7 freezer burned and then deep fried gnocchi! Certainly chicken McNuggets would have been a huge improvement on my plate. I tried to politely eat the dish but had to eventually tell the waiter. I was embarrassed for him, too. When I asked if the gnocchi was made daily he admitted, ""not daily"". Yuck. For $28 I expect FRESH food. The taste was disgusting and I NEVER complain in restaurants. The waiter said the manager would give us our dessert on the house ($5 for $28). My poor polite husband had to tell me that the salmon on his pasta was freezer burned, too and that he couldn't eat it. He lost his appetite and I ended up eating his noodles because I was starving. I was sad that my rare date night was a big disappointment. I will never, EVER return to Scalo and I will tell all of my friends to avoid it like the plague. $100.00 down the drain and we ended up eating cocoa pebbles when we got home :( A big, sad waste of money!
