This being the third experience with this hospital, I urge you to go elsewhere for medical treatment. My mother (85 years old) went in for a very low pulse rate, and low BP and was treated well in the ER by the PA. The MD's couldn't be bothered...nursing staff seemed overwhelmed though well-meaning. After a 7 hour wait in the ER she was admitted and things quickly went downhill! The waits for testing were hours on end...no communication as to what was happening nor what to expect. After a stress test was done she waited in the hallway for over an hour for ""transport"" to bring her back to her room. This test ended up taking over 4 hours..I had to seek her out and found her on a stretcher alone in a hall with blood pressure sky high! Thankfully a kind woman from HR (I believe..I did not get her name) helped me look for her as I had asked the nursing staff several times to find out where she was and got no satisfaction. The care got worse from here, unfortunately. It was deemed that she needed a pacemaker (the PA in the ER originally said this) and she was scheduled for the procedure. The procedure was done...taking 4 times the allotted time,. I waited to hear something for 4 hours, again being told the doctor would come out and talk with me. He was apparently late for a speech at Boswell hospital because the procedure had gone over time because the leads had come loose and needed to be reseated (It needed to be done again!) , so he rushed off without talking with me. Giving me this information was an error in judgment for the assistant, I am sure, but equally sure this was the truth. I have been a health care professional (retired) for more than 30 years, so I kinda got the hang of it!!! Because the procedure took much longer than scheduled, her medications wore off and she was in such pain and had a lot of anxiety. Her BP was over 200 at this point. Getting back to her room, finally, she was fawned over for the first hour, then didn't see another person for hours. I helped her go the the bathroom and feed her. Her telephone did not ring (we asked that a repairman come to look at it on arrival, but no one came), but the red light would blink during a call, but she could not hear anything, so missed many concerned calls during this time. Also, the roommates she was assigned, were hard of hearing and had TV's at full volume..people speaking at 3 times normal and there was NO privacy at all. The crowning blow was upon discharge when after 7 hours of waiting once she was told she could go, the nurse told her about the assessment she would be asked to file. She said a nine would mean they had failed, so give them tens!! I wanted to deck her, and state that a one would have been too much, but held my tongue just to get out of there!! I had to ask for discharge instructions, that were then printed from the computerized instruction. We were ready to go home and told that it would be another 30 minutes(keep in mind we had waited nearly 5 1/2 hours already) before transport could come, and after a bit of whispering and begging (after my threat to leave with or without help). The nurse then told me that if we left, the insurance company (Medicare) would not pay Finally, an aide was coereced into taking us down to the parking area and off we went. What a horrendous experience this was, no care, no sleep, no privacy......... Reason enough to leave this area. The care was sub-standard at best, and possibly illegal. My mother has already been harassed to ""pay up"" and she hasn't even been home 24 hours!!!!!! Go elsewhere for your care. These people only care about BILLING!!! Patients are not even part of their equation.............
