Review content:
I've spent several hundred dollars in this establishment over the past 6 years. I love their beer wall. The flytes from around the world are awesome. Monday night prices for wall beers are excellent. But if you're reading this, you're seeing a one-star rating and wondering why. It all boils down to one word: Service. It seems that every time I go to the Saucer, the service gets worse. I visit once every 3-4 months, so the decline has been very noticeable. Maybe they have new management. Maybe new owners. Maybe they're just getting lazy. I am not sure what the reasons might be, but service is slow and more often than not, rude. At the White Trash Cafe, rude service is part of the schtick. Saucer has its own vibe, and it used to be a pretty cool one. Now it feels more annoying than anything else. If I go these days, it is in spite of the service, because I want to try a particular beer, not because I enjoy my time there. I've also noticed that since the smoking ban went into effect in Nashville earlier this year, there are more and more people there just because they allow smoking. So everyone seems to be smoking. In years past, it was just a few guys smoking cigars in the corner. Now the whole place smells like an ash tray. Not exactly the mouth flavor you want when you're trying to enjoy a 15 dollar bottle of a rare imported triple-stout. Even at lunch, the establishment is 21 and up only, so it is all smoking, all the time. Lots of places around town have implemented "21 and up after 5 pm" sorts of rules to comply with the smoking ban during eating hours. You'd think that a place with 70+ beers on tap would value customers who are looking for something more than a Coors Light. People with dead taste buds from smoking all the time don't usually want to spend more than the bare minimum on beer, because they can't taste it anyway. My reluctant advice: The Flying Saucer is to be missed at all costs. I'll have to find somewhere else. Pros: Beer Selection, Bratwurst, Monday Night prices Cons: Bad Staff, No Free Parking, Stinky/Dingy atmosphere, Excessive Cigarette Smoke
