Located down W Gray off Montrose near Allen Parkway in a parking lot with Petsmart, Souper Salad provides and excellent, healthy buffet. You walk in and pay about $6.50 for a buffet and a water, $8 with a drink. The salad bar has all kinds of lettuce, fresh vegetables, some specialty salad topper items such as whole cooked mushrooms and cubed ham as well as several types of cold pasta and potato dishes with the ingredients listed. The mustard potato salad is a must have. There's always three kinds of soup including a vegan vegetable and cream of asparagus. Their other great section is the bread section, which has breadsticks, cornbread, gingerbread, and awesome blueberry bread as well as some cookies and other specialties. Baked potatoes are also available. They even have some small pizza slices to satiate the kids. For dessert there is banana pudding and ice cream. \r \r Most of their salad dressings and cold salad dishes are made with a gentle red wine vinegar, which makes for great low-fat dishes. The soup is not too salty like at most restaurants. I love mixing and matching different items from the salad bar, for example: fresh spinach leaves, sliced mushrooms, a hunk of fresh tomato and green peppers, onions, and some fat free french dressing. \r \r The environment is quiet, clean, and comfortable with plenty of space to get around. Seating comes in the form of tables and booths. The employees have always been good-natured and helpful. Overall, the food is tasty, healthy, and well worth it. It has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat, and I love the midtown location!
