Review content:
Looking for a little gem of an eatery in the Lake Wisconsin, Devil’s Lake, Wisconsin Dells area? Candy’s Merrimac Café is your place for local flavor.\r \r Let Candy know that you heard she serves REAL food, you know, where food doesn’t come out of a truck! or a starter kit! Homemade means just that! \r \r Candy, herself will be at the grill turning out those wonderful fluffy pancakes for breakfast or omelets or a full compliment of breakfast favorites served with a smile and a wisecrack, not always in that order, but food is the star along with her loving attention and intention.\r \r Beef sandwiches or chicken salad may be on the menu for lunch. Friday nights you can find an excellent beer-battered cod with homemade slaw and potato salad that they line-up for! \r \r Once you cross the historic Merrimac ferry take a right at the stop sign and another right just beyond that. Pull up and you’ll see green and white gingham curtains, a dinghy capsized on the roof, and the sign that says “attitude adjustment inside” with a baseball bat under the words. . Get out of the car, bus, truck or whatever and go on in….\r \r Garrison Keillor might be at the counter (or at least a local version) !\r \r Our first time there I watched a platter-sized pancake that looked thin, fluffy and light go to the person in the booth behind us…I changed my order and have been returning ever since. I need real maple syrup with my cakes so Candy keeps my syrup for me!! How’s that for home kitchen? The guy with me (husband) is an egger and he drools for the omelet: bacon, cheese, tomato w/ 3 eggs. Sometimes he goes for the two egg omelet and a piece of Candy’s apple crisp made with two kinds of apples…keep the coffee coming.\r \r All of this is served with smiles, warm conversation, a witty repartee or two and, the rarest of rare, good old-fashioned neighborhood love. \r Pros: Best Pancakes in Wisconsin
