Repairing a crashed hard drive is a bad experience--no matter how you look at it. And I still don't know why it is so expensive, but it is what it is. After trying several commercial data recovery software programs that I downloaded, I realized that I had to go get professional help.
I went elsewhere in Charlotte, and did not feel comfortable with the price quote or the people who were assisting me.
Marlon's quote was significantly lower--and the best thing is he seems like a good guy. Much less painful paying someone who is likeable and very responsive. I was very pleasantly surprise how fast he got back to me and got me my data back.
What a relief. My whole life on a external drive. What has the world come to?
So now I make two backups to be safe--and lock one away.
