Review content:
This review has three sections: cheating and underperforming waiters provided by the company, the bizarre conduct of the owner/manager, and some final thoughts on why the company's name ""Waiters on the Run"" is befitting.
We asked for three waiters for our wedding and wrote up instructions for them what to do during the reception. They failed to do what they where asked for. For example, they used only 7 out of 17 chafing dishes and simply served some of the food cold.
Two of the waiters were nice but the third one was in a really bad mood. When she served the buffet food she looked as if she is reluctant to give any. I felt like I was in school cafeteria again with the grumpy old cook behind the counter.
Finally, the waiters put out a tipping jar without asking me and despite the agreement with the manager that I will personally tip them at the end of the night. I did not see the jar because I was greeting the guests but I was told about it the next day by some friends.I felt cheated because I gave them a good tip when the evening was over. I was mad as hell.
After the event I tried to reach the owner/manager, Aaron, but without success. I left messages on his answering machine for three days with no reply although the machine says they will call back in 15 minutes. Finally, he calls me and I tell him about the cheating waiters and instead of apologizing he starts giving excuses. I tell him I want my tip back because the waiters in effect collected two tips. The guy becomes hysterical, shouting with his voice breaking that it's my fault I did not control the waiters and that I should leave more detailed messages on the answering machine. I have never experienced such customer service before in my life! It was bizarre. I was upset and laughing at the same time!
Finally, I think Aaron picked the name ""Waiters on the Run"" for a reason. The company does not have an email address so I had to call them. When I first called he did not introduce himself/company. When I asked if I got the right phone number he became suspicious and asked ""Who wants to know?"" Later he told me that people mistakenly call for a different company. I chose to do business with them anyway because they were listed in a Time Out New York article. Now I think the name suits him because he is being chased by angry clients and workers. See a review by a disgruntled employee on this site. I also think the company does not have an email address so they don't leave any written statements of agreements.
If you choose this company despite the story you've just read: Good luck!
P.S. If anybody was wondering, I didn't get my tip money back.
