I recently was part of a party of 9 that made reservations at Jar. Four of us showed up 30 mins before the reservation and started a tab at the bar. All members of the party had arrived by about 10 mins before the reservation time and we all sat at the bar having drinks and talking. It is entirely understandable that it may not be possible to seat a large party like that right at the time of the reservation, so we got a bottle of champagne, more drinks, and hung out. After 1 HOUR past our reservation time and a $400 bar tab, no table was in sight. The maitre d' kept assuring us that we would have a table in '10 minutes'... had we known that 90 mins after arriving, we still wouldn't have a place to sit, we would have taken our business elsewhere (which is what we ultimately did). That is simply unacceptable.
