Review content:
I was part of a bridal party this weekend & we all stayed at the Cape Codder. Everyone else in the bridal party made appointments to get their hair and makeup done, but two of us couldn't afford the $50-$85 price tag. My hair is naturally straight but it gets a little funny wave to it. The day of the wedding, even though my hair was in good condition, I realized I wasn't going to have enough time to do anything at all to it. Since I was at the Beach Plum Spa with the rest of the bridal party anyways, I asked one of the hair dressers if she would have time just to flat iron my hair. She said ""sure, no problem!"" w/ no hesitation. I was still waiting in the ""relaxation room"" for a chance to go in with the other bridesmaids and I went through the price list. It's clear in the price list: flat iron: $10 and up. Now that, I can afford. The rest of the bridesmaids were done having their hair worked on and were waiting for makeup. One hair stylist was doing the brides hair & the other hair stylist said she could flat iron my hair. No complaints about how she did it, aside from the fact that she didn't use any product. It was just like I would do it at home: a quick flat iron. It was fast, 5, maybe 10 minutes. The rest of the bridesmaids thought I was still waiting to get it done; they didn't know she had finished already because it happened so quickly. While still waiting for the makeup artist, we all walked down the hall to pay our bills. Updos were $85, half-up half-down was $75, and informal was $50. Here's where it stops making sense. One bridesmaid who has butt-length hair and had it ALL curled paid $75. Another bridesmaid who has shoulder-length hair and simply had it pinned into a messy-look side-bun paid $85. I was next. The less-than-friendly woman behind the desk who seemed to dislike her job with every ounce of her being asked my hair stylist, who just happened to appear next to her, what she should charge me. The hair stylist said ""$50, it's a bridal party informal"". I was pissed, but kept it inside. I politely said, ""I'm sorry, but no. That took maybe 5 minutes to straighten my already-straight hair."" The older woman who clearly didn't want to change her mind rolled her eyes and said ""well, you were with a bridal party."" I told her, ""the brochure says $10 and up for flat iron. I wouldn't have done it if I had thought it would be $50."" Her response was ""yes $10 AND UP."" I could understand my $10 going up to $50 if I had really long, unruly hair. However, and I told her this-- hair doesn't get any more simple than mine. My hair is shorter than my shoulders. My hair was ALREADY straight. It was not frizzy, nor poofy. It did not require any special attention & I didn't have ANY product put in it. It took 5-10 minutes TOPS. The hair dresser who was still by her side INSISTED, lying to my face, that it took 25-30 minutes for her to straighten my hair. Now is when I started to get angry. I asked for a manager and the price-clueless woman behind the counter insisted she was it. As I continued to argue, she said ""well I'm going to have to get the manager"", like it was some sort of threat. I said ""thank you, that's exactly what I would like."" She then tried to ""lower"" the price to $20. I told her no. I understand that it says ""and up"", but if MY hair is double the base price (again, REALLY short, not thick, already straightened, no product applied), then who on earth would that $10 actually apply to??! She insisted I go into the ""relaxation room"" to wait for the manager. About 2 minutes later I was called back in and the same unhappy woman quietly said ""$10."" She didn't even make eye contact. My wedding is in a few months and my 8 girl (including myself) bridal party will no longer be getting their hair and makeup done at the Beach Plum Spa as originally planned. I hope whoever the actual manager is knows that the nasty attitudes of the woman behind the counter and the curly-haired stylist cost the salon $1000+.
