On the weekend of August 21/22, 2010, my wife and I went to Azteca Downtown for the first time and was very disappointed. I've always been happy with the Azteca on Newport Highway so we were expecting the same quality of service and food. Jesus was our server and he did nothing but make excuses for the poor service, never denying it, but confirming it through his excuses. Waitress/Bartender took our drink order, but didn't return with it correctly. After a while she just didn't bring anything at all. I asked Jesus how long it would take just to get a cup of coffee and he continued making excuses but eventually brought it. The meal came and it took forever. The restaurant wasn't overly busy so there was no reason for such negligent service. The food was OK I guess, but we were filled with so much disgust over the service, nothing would have tasted good. I always have at least two margarita's, but this time I only had one....once I finally got it! And much to my disappointment, it tasted like a watery slushy with a slight flavor of sweet and sour mix. (I think the bartender was spending too much time with 'Pedro' in the back) After getting tired of waiting for the bill, we finally got up and went to the front of the restaurant. Boy, you should have seen how fast Jesus showed up then! We told him how poor the service was and all he could do was make excuses, blaming management for not hiring enough to take care of customers. From my observation it seems management hired the WRONG people because they were all goofing off leaving all of the work on Jesus. I have to say Jesus did try, but he had absolutely no help which was sorely needed. The only satisfaction I got from the experience is that I had discouraged two potential customers from dining there. After I talked to them, they decided to go somewhere else. It was obvious we weren't the only dissatisfied customers. There were a few tables we saw where people left and barely ate any of the food. Didn't even take a doggie bag.
