Dr Susan Johnson of the Elgin Vet Hospital performed a routine spay operation on my 6 mo German Shepherd. Aware of her megasophagus diagnosis she refused to release her to me to care for her during her post surgery recouperation, reassuring me she would be fine spending the night at the hospital. When I arrived the following morning my GSD WAS WEAK AND THROWING UP red fluid. Dr. Johnson wasn't alarmed by this and actually said this is normal. I didn't take her home because of her very grave looking condition so I sat outside with her on the lawn and after a short while she violently gagged and threw up red fluid, gave a high pitched cry and collapsed. Very upset I told the Dr. who after anexam and xray told me she had aspiration pneumonia and it didn't look like she would make it. I was hysterical. This Dr has to be the most incompetent Dr (don't get me started). With a referral I rushed to Central Texas Veterinary Hospital. Dr Sharon Theisen rushed out of the building upon my arrival, scooped my dying German Shepherd out of the front seat and whisked her into hospital. I was shocked and impressed by her enthusiasm. Dr Kerpsack met with me moments later and I was told her throat was full of newspaper that was in her cage and that she spent the night eating!! The aspiration Pneumonia Dr Johnson diagnosed her with was not correct. What she saw on the xray was her stomach jammed up in her throat. She gagged so hard trying to dislodge the newspaper she coughed her stomach into her enlarged esophagus and it was strangling her stomach to death. Dr Kerpsack, who is a living hero to me and obviously a talented and intelligent surgeon saved her life. He was knowledgeable, patient and all business and I am so thankful for his expertise. Upon Sheena's leaving the hospital, Dr. Thiessen, also my hero, remarked what a lucky dog she was. I was the lucky one. Sheena Von Jetta saved my life years later and she is and will eternally be my special little hero. CTVH is amazing! Pros: exceeds all expectations Cons: by referral
