Review content:
I had a deep tissue massage, my first at this location but I'm quite experienced with massages. The technique was interesting, involving an extensive scalp massage, lots of long stroke motion on my back, and some wonderful techniques on my hips and legs (where I'm carrying a lot of tension right now). The table was comfortable, and had a warming pad on it so that it was quite cozy and lovely.
So why is the overall rating below average? The room was cold, and when I requested that it be warmer, I was told that the heater was already set to high. I could hear quite a lot of traffic outside the room, especially footsteps on the tile flooring.
The massage finished up with a vigorous rub down with a steamy towel, which had the effect of waking me up in an abrupt fashion. Had I had a body scrub or an invigorating service, I think that I would have liked the towel rub; after the massage, not so much. The water evaporating off my skin made me feel even colder in the room, and I was left, chilled and sitting upright, when the masseuse left the room.
As I was dressing, the masseuse began banging on the door, and I had to jump to keep her from opening it before I was fully clothed. The rub-down took most of the oil/lotion off my skin and left it feeling dry.
Normally, the massage oil on my skin (which is otherwise incredibly dry) is one of the perks of having gotten a massage. Another perk is the feeling of well-being and relaxation that a good massage invokes.
This time I felt like the rush and discomfort of real life was brought into the massage room, and I did not get the escape or lasting feeling of relaxation that I was looking for. My neck muscles had even tightened up from the cold room. A day later, I'm already planning when I can go somewhere else and get a satisfying massage.
Pros: Very clean facilities, toasty warm massage table
Cons: Freezing cold room, below average deep-tissue massage
