If you love Asian food, you may very well enjoy Everest Express. The family opened this restaurant (which I once read was the first Nepali restaurant in the US) in a little location in Farmington Hills. It's not easy to find - the restaurant has a little orange awning in a small strip mall that includes a Merry Maids location. I'd driven past this restaurant for years before I read a review elsewhere and found it. The food is outstanding. There are many vegetarian recipes, plus plenty of chicken, lamb and seafood choices. Vegetables are not even cut until you order your meal - it's that fresh! My favorite dish is Masu Nanee, which is a chicken dish with nuts (pistachios, almonds, etc.) and coconut. I also love the Everest Momo (vegetarian dumplings), Sherpa Kaza (a puffed rice dish that is very good when served very hot - not as good for takeout), and the Himalayan Chili. All meals come with rice and soup - I recommend the lentil soup over the vegetable soup, but both are good. They also make some good drinks. The Mango based drinks are quite good, but I've found some of the vegetable blended drinks to be a little bitter. Since they opened another restaurant in Royal Oak (Kathmandu Chulla), this Farmington Hills location went through some growing pains. We visited twice, and the service was not as good as it had been previously. The food was still fantastic, and an excellent value. This restaurant is cozy. You should call to check and see if this location is open for business. For a while, they closed it due to a family emergency. I haven't been by in a few weeks to see if it has reopened. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Asian food, and likes to try new food. It's hard to describe how this cuisine is unique - it's a little spicy, but hot-spicy - it is very generous with flavor. There are lots of vegetables, and herbs such as cilantro are used. I've taken many friends to Everest Express, and they've always loved the food. Pros: Great tasting, healthy food, nice staff Cons: location closed temporarily - call to see if open
