Ok, so an exterminator is not really the person you want to have to invite to your home. But, should the need arise, you're in great hands with Infestation Control.
Their business card reads: the company your neighbors recommend. And, yes, I recommend them heartily.
A good number of pest control companies try to tell you the sky is falling. Their solution is simple: pump lots of chemicals into your home, and do this on a regular basis (quarterly, if not at more frequent intervals). Enter: Buddy Glazier and his colleagues...
Buddy is very pragmatic and straightforward with his assessment. And, he's thorough in his explanation of it. He's not one to overtreat. Instead, he lays out the situation for you. And, refreshingly, "no treatment" is in his repertoire of tools. He'll only spray/treat if a) that's *really* what you want or b) the problem is that acute.
For example, we have a steady parade of little ants through our kitchen. Because these are not harmful, Buddy gave me some advice about non-pesticidal options, and... didn't leave a single pesticide behind.

On the surface, the Parent Resource Centers are rooms chock full of toys. In truth, the PRCs are so much more...
Each location is staffed by an experienced Parent Educator; some even have two. Emory Grove, for example, has both an English and bilingual (Spanish/English) Parent Educator. These educators not only guide the activities at their centers, but are also a kind, supportive, experienced resource for questions running the gamut of parenting concerns.
Activity at the PRCs is largely unstructured -- its a fabulous free-play opportunity. In additional to the toys, ranging in age-appropriateness from infants through kindergarten+, there is always a table with play-dough or "goop." There are also easels for painting. And, there is a craft available for those kids interested in this.
What does have a fixed time-point is circle time. Led by the Parent Educators(s), this runs about 20 minutes, and includes things like rhymes, songs, a story, color/shape matching, finger plays and similar developmental goodies.
The PRCs are a bargain, pricewise. The fees are on a sliding scale, based on family income. However, if the fees are an issue, please speak with the staff to explore options.
A beauty of the PRC program is that it's essentially on a drop-in basis. Once you have paid your membership, you are welcome to use any of the PRC locations. And, you can come as often or infrequently as you choose.

In this age of increased emphasis on academics at an ever-earlier age, the City of Gaithersburg's Creative Tot Time program is like a breath of fresh air. Here, three and four-year-olds have the opportunity to venture out on their own, to make new friends, learn new skills, and to... play! There's lots of learning going on, lovingly fostered by the teachers.
Families are actively invited to participate, with several field trips offered during the course of the year. Other highlights were Fathers' Night, and the Mothers' Tea (which included grandparents and other caregivers and Very Important People to the children).
Families are asked to provide snacks about once per month. The tuition is extremely reasonable, especially when compared to that charged by comparable preschool programs. Classes are led by teams of instructors.

There's no better way to get produce than fresh from the field. Add some herbs to the recipe, and dress up your table with beautiful flowers, both from the cut-your-own area, and you've got the perfect ingredients for a memorable meal. And, because farm pickups happen weekly throughout the growing season, you can replay the scenario all summer long (and then some!)
The weekly pickups are bountiful and tasty, and are an outstanding value for your precious food dollars.
We first came to Red Wiggler because it's geographically convenient to us (despite the Clarksburg mailing address, the farm is now in Germantown). But, in addition to the environmentally-friendly growing practices, and the opportunity to support a small, local farm, we love that Red Wiggler provides a place for folks with developmental disabilities to have meaningful jobs.
