L&L Food Centers is a locally owned chain of grocery stores that are in and around Lansing, MI. They are small, convenient, and sometimes a nice break from the larger stores like Meijer. You can get in, get your groceries, and get out in no time ... and most are open 24 hours.
They are complete with a Pharmacy, Bakery, and Meat area where they carry the tasty "Levandowski" line of meats. They often times have samples available for the meats so you can find your favorite before you even buy!
Sometimes going to Meijer and walking 8 miles to get around the store to get your groceries and such isn't appealing ... if that's the case, stop by your local L&L Food Center for a nice grocery selection at reasonable prices.

We started taking our baby to Haslett Pediatrics after first going through some "other" pediatricians that we found to be ... well, not very good.
Dr. Wichert of Haslett Pediatrics always takes the time to talk to the parents to explain to us what exactly is going on, or not going on, for that matter, with our child. She is very kid-friendly, and plays with the children while caring for them. The office decor is a child's dream, including two salt-water fish tanks complete with the cast of "Finding Nemo."
Even when we moved to Lansing, we still drive the 20-30 mins to Haslette to take our child to Haslette Pediatrics ... they're THAT GOOD!
I highly recommend them to care for your little ones.

Until NCG Cinemas opened in East Lansing, Celebration Cinemas was the only theatre in Lansing that I know of that has Stadium Seating and a great movie lovers atmosphere.
Located just off I-96 in Lansing, the Michigan-based Celebration Cinemas is huge ... and has a recently-added IMAX Theater! Like any theater, Celebration has a full snack bar for your buttery popcorn fix, and they even have an arcade for the kids.
For convenience, you can purchase your tickets ahead of time online to avoid long lines once you arrive. Parking is plentyful, and the theater is located near several restaurants, including Hooters and a Texas BBQ.
A great theater, indeed!

Years ago, I used to visit the Pizza House in Ann Arbor at 1 AM on weeknights. The fireplace was always going and the staff was always very friendly, and the bar! What can I say?
Pizza House has now opened shop in East Lansing, MI and recently doubled its size in that location. The menu is great, from Deep Dish Chicago-style Pizza to these huge pita sandwhiches called "Chipatis" .. Pizza House is a little slice of heaven.
I love the warm atmosphere, you wouldn't expect it in a strip-mall pizzaria. The pizza is fantastic, and the deep dish is sooo filling, you'll be done after one or two peices.
They also do delivery and as I mentioned before, they are open late! A must for near-campus businesses in this day and age.

If you have drove through East Lansing lately, you've probably seen the house-turned-business that is BA Florist on the corner of Grand River and Hagadorn. The two-story store contains a nice mix of cozy gifts and beautiful flowers.
On occassion, I have used BA Florist to create unique flower displays. They do deliver as well, like any good florist should.
The prices are reasonable, but somewhat on the fancy side ... but its nice having a world-class florist right in town. So next time you're ordering flowers for your loved one, or whoever the special person may be, check out BA Florist on Grand River.

If you're a Michigan State student, your choice for classroom books isn't limited. There is a bookstore on campus, two or three on the main strip of Grand River, and The College Store, which is sort of "Off the Beaten Path" on Hagadorn.
The advantage of The College Store is very apparent when you arrive. FREE PARKING ... and LOTS OF IT! Also, during home football games, they offer free parking and a free shuttle to the stadium! You can't beat that.
But enough about the parking, the store has a wide selection of text books that is accented by a huge selection of Michigan State gear, be it hats, shirts, chairs, you name it. It is truely your one stop shop for MSU text books and apparel.

Menna's is famous in East Lansing, MI for serving "The Dub" ... I've heard it described by one staffer as "A Very Americanized Burrito."
Your meal begins with the selection of a "Dub," a sandwhich that is grilled and served on a pillowy flat bread, wrapped up like a burrito. But they don't have the standard "burrito" ingredients. For instance, they have the "Club Dub" (similar to a club sandwhich), a "Master Dub" (that contains chick and potatos, cheese and sour cream), and even a "breakfast dub."
Next tmie you're hungry, and in East Lansing, stop by Menna's Joint for a new spin on the sandwhich.

Beaner's is a local chain of coffee houses in Michigan. The ambience is very reminicent of Starbucks, but the feeling is a little more "hometown." On any given day, you can stop into a beaners and relax while sipping one of their chilled "Big Chill" drinks. Sign up for their newsletters, and get coupons (we just got a buy-one-get-one-free).
They also offer Internet access. Need somewhere to study away from the hussle and bussel of it all? Grab your laptop, get some coffee, and veg out for a while. While you're at it, grab a snack.
This Michigan-chain is sprouting up everywhere you can imagine. If you don't have one near you, you will soon, I imagine.
enjoy!

At the moment, this one-store location is in Okemos, MI ... but as I drove down through Lansing the other day, I see that they are opening a second location near the capital. This place is great!
In Okemos, the store is very tiny, but decorated in a fun way. There are only a half dozen tables inside to sit at, but it is just as easy to come in, order your food, and take off. The food is great, my favorite is the "Southwest" ... a BBQ Chicken sandwhich wrapped in a pita-like shell.
They have many other sandwhiches, such as Steak & Cheese, Ham, Turkey ... you name it.
A great place for lunch tucked away in a strip mall in Okemos. I love this place!

Horrock's Farm Market in Lansing, MI is by far my favorite place to shop for fresh produce, fresh flowers, cheese, and ethnic foods. The environment is very "hometown-ish" which is a nice break from the chain-run grocery stores.
What's more, you can walk in on any afternoon and enjoy live piano music while you shop. The fresh flower selection is great, several times a month they seem to run "A dozen long stem roses for $8.99" specials. They have an on-site floral delivery available too.
Did I mention their FULL stock of trees and plants? Horrocks is like a Grocery Store + Florist + Nursery all in one. The service is great, and you can always sample FREE CHEESE!
The only "odd" thing about it is the parking lot, but I guess it matches the quarkyness of the store itself. Horrocks truely is in a class of its own.
